  1. Yeah, I know what you mean....doing school and the student teaching...wow...it does get very overwhealming at times...but as you can imagine, its get easier with time as everything becomes more familiar. Anyway, wish you well, and hope you enjoy it.
  2. Message was too long:

If you check the groups I'm in here on LBPC, there's one for future teachers. There's just two of us in there, but you might be interested in swinging by.

  3. Hey, thanks for checking in.

Yeah, I've started my whole Teacher Assisting phase of school. The kids are definitely a handful, but luckily we have several adults in the room to keep them in line and on task. It's daunting at this point to consider going at it alone. I would love to stay in touch for tips when I actually get my own classroom... sadly, I'm on information overload at the moment. I've got four classes, all of which offer up tips and advice and techniques for teaching, while trying to feel things out on my own, without stepping on toes of my cooperating teacher! Ah!

It's mostly good fun, thought. The kids are great when they're on task. I think they actually enjoy my interactions with them, and respect me more-so than I anticipated. I get to start actually taking over the class a bit in the coming weeks, so wish me luck!!

  4. Hey bud, you get in with those sixth graders yet? Haha, I'm just turning over a month at my job and man has it been busy. My LBP time has suffered so much... anyway just wanted to know if you started yet. And by the way if your looking for any advice, I could dish up some tips for making your first classroom experience go smooth....although I'm sure you probably have many sources of advice already from your school, etc.

    Good Luck!, Lock
  5. yeah, I'm not sure, may stay with math if i like it.

and about being nervous, I think thats everyone before they get into the classroom, I'm feeling that way too, while telling myself its stupid to feel nervous as I already student taught a semester...

but i'd agree, upper level high school math would be great classes to teach if you like that material, you get more of the over-achieving crowd up there.
  6. Ah, yes... 'tis the nature of history education majors. I have quite a few friends who are in that same boat. Are you going to try to get into teach history/social studies again at some point?

Middle school, huh? Best of luck to you! I am doing my assisting in a sixth grade classroom, and I'm all sorts of nervous. My goal is high school, doing the upper level stuffs. I'm a big fan of all things calculus. /nerd

  7. Yeah that is the truth, I'm starting up my first year of teaching eighth grade mathematics next week. I majored in history in college however, but switched over in order to land a job quicker.

I'm coaching high school soccer as well... pretty fun but time consuming.

Glad your excited about getting started, I really think teaching is a great job. Its fun, worthwhile, interesting, and plus you get a lot of time off to work on your hobbies...
  8. Hiya. Word through the grapevine is that you're a teacher. Might I inquire what it is you teach?

I am studying to be a math teacher currently, starting my student teaching in a few weeks. Exciting times!

  9. You got the silver activity award, which means that you are the second most active non-staff member. It will be automatically given back if someone ousts you from the honor.

  10. Thanks for the heads up bud, I'm not new to forums, but I am new to trying to make my posts pretty. I'll fix it up now!
