I'm noticing a patern...

-sigh- So, I keep looking at the community spotlights... and every time I go on there, I see the same exact kind of levels or the same publishers. Now before I go on, let me just say, all of these levels ARE amazing and deserve something. HOWEVER what I'm about to say also has some backbone to it, and has no real emotion behind it. I love most of the creators and levels, but saddly, they are the same creators. Multiple times, I see probably the most famous name on LBP nowadays: comphermc. Now, I LOVE comp. Without his help, my FPS level would have NEVER been able to get finished, or been finished as well. And his levels, they are absoulutely fantastic, no doubt. But... everyone already goes to his moon. I mean, probably in less than a week, his level became an MM Pick... I mean, does it REALLY deserve to be one of the top levels on the Community Spotlight? I mean... -sigh- another face that appears is Morgana. And again, I love her levels. And she doesn't appear as much. But she's still well known as well, and gets plenty of plays already. In fact, about half of the levels that are in the spotlight are already MM Picks. I mean, what? I don't mean to sound mean, but are MM Picks not enough fame for them? I mean, I personally like what BludgaBoy does. He looks deeper into levels, and takes stuff that ISN'T well known. Now, I admit, I'm jealous cause my level didn't get ANY recognition. It got about 150 plays at most... but, I mean, really? All the levels that are on the spotlight are stuff that, although done well or better than others, they are all just old things done better. My Multiplayer VS. FPS, that was INNOVATIVE! It was the FIRST OF IT'S KIND! I looked. NO ONE ELSE did that. I mean, just... not only that, but, I made the first legitimate ammo system! As in, you have ammo to reload with, and not just infinite ammo to reload with. -sigh- I just... I really, REALLY don't mean to diss anyone on the spotlight, ESPECIALLY if they do deserve it... but, most people have been MM Picked and/or are already famous... I mean, just pick some people that DON'T get recognition. I mean, Play Create Share... shouldn't that involve the whole community, not the same 5 people? Feel completly free to post what you think, whether I may be right, or wrong, or just whining. I want YOUR input, to see what THE COMMUNITY thinks, not just the good people. And one last time, I mean NO OFFENSE. I'm just stating my opinion.

You are whining nothing wrong with that tho, its good to vent XD (So long as I can choose whether I want to read it or not, and in this case, I did!)

I agree that a select number of names appear a hell of a lot more than others and Im not implying that these people arent incredible creators or dont deserve the plays and attention they get - BUT, if you have thousands of hearts and without doing a shred of advertising will get hundreds of plays on day 1 of publishing - do you really need to put your fingers in all the pies to show off your level? Its going to get seen anyway!! A great example I just came across today, http://lbp.me/v/6etss1 this level made by a not well known creator and its brilliant and yet hardly any plays! (I hope the bumpy I gave it in the showcase forum helps, it deserves more attention!).

Same thing applies to littlebigpicks, from its website "The show in LBP2 that tries to get all the great and unnoticed levels out there in CraftWorld the plays they so deserve.". Now, this is a great show/idea and it does gather great levels BUT again not so much with the "unnoticed" bit! many of the levels featured already have plays in the hundreds or thousands from creators with hearts in the hundreds to thousands! Just sayin' ... I mean they can keep doing exactly what they are doing, but adjust your description please!

Haha, sorry. I didn't know a lot of them as well had of hearts. Well, that STILL kind of supports my arguement. XD I mean, yeah... I really do admit that I wanted my level to be published for being first of its kind, but even so, it deserves SOME recognition. SSTAGG who's full name escapes me is a good friend, and his level was a lot better than mine, and he got the recognitino he deserves, easy. But I guess no one can see a great level unless it's "perfect" which his basically was, give or take two flaws. It was an amazing level. And I admit, I suck with art and stuff, so the "level" itself didn't look as amazing as it could have, and I had to scrap a few things I was able to make, such as seeing your opponent throwing a grenade. But, regardless, my level is... above average. I won't say it's "amazing," even though it's possible it is. I'll leave you and everyone else that says it's amazing to say it is. Only people that hated it were single players who didn't get anyone, and one person from a clan that stole our clan's name. ANYWAYS I'm ranting...
So, in short, I'm just saying, people like me who are at the very least developing a skill or talent that's above average SHOULD get some kind of notorioty, instead of comp who is the MOST POPULAR PERSON on LBP... or at least, now he is. I know he wasn't always up there, but NOW he is DEFFINETLY the most popular. But, with popularity, do you need MORE? I know I'm repeating myself a lot... sorry. ^^''

SO yeah, I think maybe I should start getting some of my friends' levels that arn't getting enough recognition noticed via youtube or a blog or thread or something, and then start going to the not known levels at all. There are a lot of people who don't even have a name in LBP, but they have above average skill. Saddly, everyone wants "perfect" which, unless you're one of five people, you can't become.

My experience is that deserving something, by itself, is not enough to earn you much if the competition pool is larger than maybe a dozen people. The resources required are just too great.

It's true that visual levels, or levels with custom music, get recognized more quickly than others. This is because what's good in a visuals-heavy level comes out to the reviewer right away. Even reviewers of commercial games tend to lean towards obvious details first - this is why every Call of Duty clone stresses realism, since it's an easy box to check.

If your concept is truly worthy of a deeper look, your "marketing" should be focused on that. Demon's Souls made a lot of money for Atlus, but it's weird, and it's super hard. Those guys made no attempt to compete with FPS markets or Mario markets, and they shouldn't have. When they finally broke out into Internet buzz territory, it was because they'd developed a cult following that was talking them up in the forums, and had a few reviewers who liked what they were trying to do.

I'm not telling you to ignore everyone else. I'm suggesting that worrying about compher's audience might be getting in the way of you finding your own.

    Hej hej...
I've never mentioned that the creator needs to have less than a certain number of hearts... I've been focusing on good levels with not so many plays. I work really hard in trying to find these gems and I always think a lot before picking something.
But I have to say that many of the creators I've picked had really few creators hearts when I picked their levels. It's not my fault that one had an MMpick after I already picked him... (which was truly well deserved though and I'm so happy for him.)

I thought I was doing something good for the community, but I guess some people will never be satisfied...
At least I try to do something about this problem... and I have to ask... what are you doing?
I'm sorry if I go into negative mode in this reply... but this actually makes me feel really sad.

I kinda get what you're saying coyote, but that's not exactly what I'm going for. I mean, I guess this does slightly apply to my level, as it's not perfect, or "amazing," but it's still something that's above average at the least, and if other's saw this level, than they could take my ideas and make better versions. I'd be FINE with that, as long as I get some credit for making the first version of it! And honestly, I'm not saying I'm competing with comph. I'm NOT saying that. I'm saying, EVERYONE IN THE WORLD is competing with comph. If you look through the Community Spotlight, MOST if not ALL of his levels in LBP2 have made it up there. I really don't mind mine not being put up there, IF THEY STOP SHOWING COMPH AND OTHER REPETITIVE PEOPLE (whom, again, I respect as the best of the best).
Also, we're not trying to disrespect you in any way lek. But some of the levels on LBPicks have already had plenty of plays/hearts, and are already doing well on there own. Now, that's not ALL the levels. Some of the levels you show are great and unnoticed. But that's only some. It's more like half and half with you, PLUS it's not like you HAVE to be showing the levels. I appluad what you're doing, and respect you a lot more than community spotlight people in here. So yeah, don't feel too negative.
