So a year passes and still no Chrono Chrysalis. A lot of people were wondering if I just up and quit, and short answer is: I did not. I just took a break, focused on school and played other games for once. Making an RPG in LBP2 is stressing, at least only because you dont want to mess up the opportunity.
I know the game wont come out exactly how I want to in my mind, or how others may want it too, but I am back working on the game and trying to get this first idea out into the community.( YEZ i have other project ideas TBA!). SO here is the start of my journal as a creator, an introduction if you will.
First in the diary are FAQs:
Whats taking so long?
I think I am just that indecisive. Its not so much a logic thing as it is a structure. I mean we got content that can stretch hours upon hours, and its about presenting a ton of information and concepts to a casual audience. The fact that I aim to make the game so accessible is why we probably spent more time discussing the game rather than actually building it. Also the story for me is as important as the gameplay. So I have been writing a lot whenever I get the time. I think this may be the largest LBP2 stage to date, not just from the amount of time we put into it, but the shear scale and content in the game is something I havent seen in a level yet. And thats another reason its taking a while.
Demo?
No demos. We are going to have a couple closed beta's for the team, maybe some other friends of mine, but ultimately I have no interest in demos. I just want to release the full game all at once.
Will the game have voice acting like some of the MM picked stages?
I do have plans to include voice acting, however, I will not fully decide on that until I finish the game, and then we will go back and see if the game can use it.
Whats the battle system like, does it use three members?
The battle system is a mock final fantasy, although there are several "suprises" I cant reveal just yet. Its going to feel familiar at first, but it will constantly evolve as the player gets used to it.
How many battles are in the game?
I understand a lot of RPGs in LBP2 use fixed battles. This one aims for more of a traditional RPG experience. You can grind and do the usual RPG fair, but more information on that will come later.
Any new you can share?
We are changing the leveling system to something more linear-yet still has some degree of customization. I think players will like this new system, although it is subject to change in future episodes if enough fans demand it.
Will the saving system save all your data like Sealed Fate?
Sealed Fate is an exceptional RPG, but our series is designed a lot differently. I can't say it will be like that game because I havent got the time to really play it. From what I know, Sealed Fate has a more WPRG feel, with one character you can level up, while CC has multiple party members with high customization options as well; Thats roughly quadruple the amount of variables I would have to save and basically--its going to be different, but it will manage all of your data to some extent. However, theres only so much I can do with so many variables and no official saving system programmed in LBP2.
How much more do you have left to do?
All the environments, monsters, bosses and story scenarios are done. The battle system has been given some tweaks, but thats about done as well. Could be a month or two off at best, but we arent in a hurry either.
Best freakin RPG in LBP2?
I sort of hate when people say things like that; I feel the game may carry more weight than it should. Its obviously one of the larger projects in LBP2 and many people are probably expecting some legendary RPG and thats almost unfair. "Best" RPG is subjective, and I think every rpg aims to do something different. In this sense, no RPG is greater than another. What I can promise, is that its unlike any level ever played in LBP2.
Expect a ton of updates from here on out, the upcoming diaries will go in depth on various elements of the game. So stay tuned..
