The Grim Days of Little Big Planet - Part Three

Rate this Entry
Previously on The Grim Day of Little Big Planet, I talked about what Mm was focused on rather than taking care of the copy problem. Getting rid of the boo rating. It's good to do that because trolls are abusing this option, but a new feature gave trolls an even bigger superpower. And glitches were created in response to the update. When I first heard about the update, all I knew were the boo removal, the ability to disable your comments or reviews, and the dive in. One thing I didn't know about it until a friend told me was the Hedge Hopping one. Although one of these glitches was patched, other glitches aren't. So i guess in order for Hedge Hopping to work appropriately, they need to bring back the boo rating. But that entry is over. Time for Part 3: Mm Picks!

Somewhere around 2010 or 2009, Media Molecule introduced a feature or something called "Mm Picks". It's a list of levels that were favored by Media Molecule. The first few Mm Picks had a lot of haters. A prime example of this is Love and Marriage. Even if the level was never Mm Picked, it would still have been a bad level. I tried it, and I agree it isn't Mm Pick worthy, but all I said about it was "Is this the first level ever published?" I didn't complain about it being Mm Picked, but I understand that people hated this level and the fact it was Mm Picked.

Later on, a few more Mm Picks were only the best of the honor of the people. That was from the late days of LBP1 to the early days of LBP2. The levels, not only favored by Media Molecule, but also favored by the players of Little Big Planet. It included levels such as the mini-golf one, Pinball of a Better Tomorrow, Clockworx 2, Roller 2 INC, and the 3-D pong level Inside-Out.

Mm Picks never became controversial until the level Sackboys Quest for Lucky Charms was Mm Picked. That level was liked a lot, but until it got Mm Picked, people criticized it. I hate it when people complain about levels being Mm Picked when they don't think it is. Here's the thing about Mm Picks: Mm Picked doesn't mean it's good detail, unique ideas, or serious work done in the level; it means it's fun enough for Mm to play. I'm guessing that people are still stuck with the fact that only the good detailed levels with unique ideas and serious work were Mm Picked. But the policies have changed. Mm used to only like the levels that were good detailed, seriously worked on, and have unique ideas. Now they like more than that.

I actually like the new policies of being Mm Picked. Back then, none of your levels should break the rules in order for one to get Mm Picked. Now, one level doesn't affect the other's chance of getting the Mm Pick. Mm used to pick only one level for every two weeks. Now they pick five levels per week. It makes getting Mm Picked easier. While I'm happy with the new policies, some people aren't. They complain about the new Mm Picks, saying "they aren't Mm Pick worthy" or something. There is no such thing as "Mm Pick worthy". The only "Mm Pick worthy" levels that exist are the ones Mm likes. People don't have the right to choose opinions of other people.

I'm guessing people do want levels like Sackboy's Quest for Lucky Charms to be deselected. They can wish it, but they won't get what they wish for because once a level makes it to the Mm Picks, it shall not be deselected, unless if it's really bad (like a bomb survival or Mortal Kombat). In case if you worry, I doubt Mm will pick copied levels or levels with no work done. Anything they don't like is what they won't pick.

One last word: It's their picks, not yours.

This is not exactly what you were talking about but I thought it would be good to add.

The thing about MM Picks that were selected way back when, they could have been good, but not all levels age well. The community is always pushing the limit on what is considered great in the game, and older creations before the newer innovations will always look inferior.
So anyone who might peruse the history of MM Picks might feel there's been a fluctuation between good and bad picks over time, not always realizing that what seems like the norm now was not always.

Again, this is not really part of your discussion, just consider it an extending point.

@xxMATEOSxx: You are on topic, so it is part of the discussion. However, you are right that I didn't record what you said in the blog.
