Pat cloned his hard drive if you're worried about any of your other saves. You'd need an unformatted hard drive to do that. Newegg sells them for like 80 bucks. But you'd have to wait a few days for newegg to ship it.

Oh noes!!!! I'm so sorry. I worry about this with ours every time I read one of these threads. I'll get lackadaisical about doing regular off-console back-ups, and then I'll see one of these threads and start doing it twice a day (for a while). Sucks to lose the BC 80Gig though. BC is one of the reasons we went with the PS3 when deciding on a console a couple years back - that and built in Blu-Ray (which was a bit of gamble, as the war was still waging then).

You know, Caryn, I've been thinking... there's no reason I can't just buy rockband for the ps3 and play online with you if I sing and don't buy any of the instruments. I have like 6 usb mics. If everything works out okay with your ps3 (fingers crossed!) I might just do that. I wouldn't be able to get any of the DLC, but at least I'd be able to play online with people.

True.. but what I mean is the circuitry to shut off the PS3 could be set on thermo (exceeding a temp) OR the fan turning at a slow speed. If it is set to heat as the cpu is horribly senstive on pcs as well as ps3 etc... you might be able to stablize it by freezing it oustside or something.. stick it near an open window etc.. sounds silly, but all I have for you.
