It also appears the technique better suits color photography, but there is a noticeable difference when used on B&W. If nothing else, it speeds up the burn-in process.

Yes sir...photography for Lady and I is definitely a "Professional HOBBY" . Several years ago we decided to dive in, so we bought Lady a high-end Pentax SLR and numerous lenses (some sticker shock there), and because we had spent so much on her, all I could afford for me was a K1000. But looking back, the K1000 was a perfect choice for me and understanding how the camera components actually work together. And thanks to Ansel (one of my favorites), I learned even more from his books..."The Camera", "The Negative" and "The Print". Just wish I had more time to play in that area.

OK...you do realize after reading your post that I have to go puchase all the fun software applications to create the HDR effect . Actually, I been pondering the idea of purchasing a more professional software package, and your comments have helped me make my mind up.

So...I've already begun research on the technique. These are the apps I'm thinking about buying, although that may change a bit after I get pricing...Photomatix Pro, Photoshop, Noiseware Professional and Topaz Photoshop Bundle. I have been using Corel Photo Paint 6 and Microsoft Digital Image Edition 2006, and I like them both for various features, but it appears I will need to be able to merge the portions of all the exposures to achieve the overall effect, which is seriously awesome btw.

I understand all too well jw--there is never enough time to do it all, especially as perfectionists. Congrats on the new house, and the fact that you are getting more shoots. I saw you were able to hit some races lately--sounds like it was fun. But I was glad to see the Caption Contest stil had some activity--I thoroughly enjoyed that contest, and the effort you and countess put into it.

I've recently picked up my controller again. During the beta testing I told myself I was going to have to start creating again with the new and improved tools. LBP2 has turned out to be great for my style of creating, but once again, I am totally immersed and still fear I will never complete my level in a timely manner.

I wish my hobby was lucrative. I had to get a side job to pay for my hobby, and no it's not LBP. I like to play outside. Rock climbing, camping, hiking, hunting, etc. But with a family and a mortgage and rising health insurance, the budget starts getting a little thin.
