So the ps3 and slim are going to be the same price? :/
Seriously what's the point, you have a choice of a big fat ps3 or a tiny one that has much more memory. They might as well just stop selling the fat ps3s completly.
@Dexiro: Well, you've got to realise that the slim will be unable to play ps2 games and is also unable to support Linux, so you've got your choices. Would you rather have a console specificly for PS3 things, or a console that is able to do more.
Of course, that's personal opinion, but still; it's what the customer wants.
...nobody's mentioned supposed lack of USB?
I think he's suggesting you should change the name of the thread in your initial post to "slim" not "slime".
I really hated this design at first, but upon closer inspection, it looks really retro. Kinda reminds me of those old Atari Consoles, has a very "classic" look to it. Although I'd never trade my full backwards compatible 60 gb with 4 usb slots and card readers for it ;)
For the external Hard-drive, for the flash stick, for the generic USB controllers friends bring along to play multiplayer, for the charging, for the PSP, and for a usb camera, just in case ;)Quote:
what? I got 4 USB slots and hardly use them all, maybe one to charge my controller, that's all.
well there are two usb slots on that picture...
Maybe they are just for show....
I swear, those images were leaked several months before Sony officially announced it. But I do love the modern-contemporary look it conseals (will go perfect with the modern society I live in :p).
I just need 2 USB slots.
1 for control [uneeded i charge on comp]
1 for USB keyboard.
Thats really it xD
I dont care about card readers, i didn't get one in the first place.
I might sell my PS3 for the slimer if i can get it for more then £250 xD.
Oh and if i can get my data, from my PS3 fat to a PS3 slimer.
A very drastic change in design, I must say. I wonder if they've employed a new team of designers or something. See: PSP 3000 vs PSP-Go, now PS3 Fat vs PS3 Slim. Even the logo has changed drastically!
It's real?
:O
I'm absolutely perplexed at how they fit the PSU into that thing. Even with reduced power needs, the PSU should still be larger than that. The PSU almost solely accounts for the PS3 Phat's large size, and anyone who has seen the power cable of a 360 knows what I'm talking about.
I've gone and edited the thread title so that it is now spelt correctly. For those that missed it, the original spelling of the thread was "PS3 Slime announcement".
You forget that this is Sony. I remember reading once that the president of Sony was not happy with the size of a product, either the walkman or a camcorder. The engineers swore they had made the item as small as physically possible, where by the president then took a bucket of water, threw the product into the bucket, and pointed at the huge amount of air coming out. "You see!" he said, "It can still be smaller! You aren't trying hard enough!"
That's not an exact quote, but I'm sure some eager beaver would get an official source to that. With Sony being Sony, I'm not surprised at all that they have reduced the PS3 as much as they have.
Still though, this makes the "Elite" upgrade to the XBox 360 a bit... well, cosmetic.
I have a slim on order and want to make sure I get everything transferred correctly. I have no songs, photos or videos. Mainly LBP, purchased LBP content, a couple PS Store purchased games and then the saved game data for each game.
If I understand this correctly I should be able to just use the save data utility and copy each of the games saved data over. I hope the saved data for LPB includes my game progress. The rest I can just download from the download history of my account since the new slim is going to be set up under the same account.
Is this all correct?
the slim is not shiny
so it is inferior
