Don't you think that if they could increase the thermometer (which is actually several more specific thermometers), they would? It's really an issue of optimizing your work, and there are more than enough resources on how to do that on here.

In their recent podcast Mm said they would never be increasing the thermo bcause it's too difficult for them and creators would have to split levels up if they were too big like they did with story mode.

It's ok for them to do that because they had over 50 levels to play with whereas we only have 20. If they gave us more levels it would help.
TBF you learn something new everyday. Back in the beginning of LBP i'm sure people didn't know how to make the levels thermo efficient as we do now.Quote:

I'm not sure what your point is there chuk, but if you are drawing comparison between creators' struggle to optimise their levels and MM's struggle to optimise their engine, there is almost no comparison, IMO
Personally, I'm not fussed - if they increased it it would just take even longer for me to create levels :p
i was pointing out that over the few months that we have had LBP we have learnt tricks to squeeze as much out of the as the thermo as possible. which would be the same with MM. They have learnt tricks from other sony developers on how to get as much out of the PS3 as possible.Quote:

I think the thermometer space perfectly fine. Sure it would be nice to have more but, as I said before, its the limitations that make me come up with new ideas, get creative not the freedom.
As for more levels; Currently I don't have a problem with it but than there people who are faster creators whose levels are consistently good and they obviously might hunger for more level slots sooner or later.
It is true that PS3 developers share information on coding methods and optimizations and whatnot, but LittleBigPlanet is in such a class of it's own, so hardly any "tricks" from other developers can really transfer over well.Quote:

Actually my point was that creators struggle to optimise thermo because we're dealing with a closed system. We just have to poke around looking at inputs and outputs, creating oversimplified mental models upon which we basically guess how the engine works.
Not the case with the devs, they will have access to hardware manuals and are very much dealing with a known system.
The size of your program will always grow to fill 112% of your memory. That is the nature of computers to date. Deal with it.
I would like to see a more specific thermo. possible have two (once for storage capacity, and one for speed capacity.
Also, I'd like to see a Logic bundle filled with simple, thermo-friendly (invisible in play wound work, I think) Boolean, mathematical, and other logical operators.
Word from MM telling us what the different thermometers are would help us out immensely, I wish they would just do it already.
As others have said though, the thermometer is based on the PS3's capabilities. You'll notice that, because as the thermometer fills us the game begins to lag in create mode.
Although, the thermometer will be increased someday. With LBP2 on the PS4! :D
The thermo can be a problems at time depending on what exactly you're putting in levels but usually when mine gets high I usually find ways round it to lower the thermo although sometimes it can be really hard
A bit more of a higher thermo would be nice, seems that this would be impossible for LBP from reading the posts in this thread but it would be really nice if it could somehow be done but obviously not
It is a shame because even with a lot of knowledge on how lower thermo if you're making a really good level it can still go really high

Dude!... Honest to heck, the thermometer rarely ever gets full in my levels. Unless your level is extremely long or detailed,you have no excuse!
TO the OP:
It's been said before, but MM cannot increase the size of the thermometer. You'll have to use resources more efficiently. Here are a few ways how:
- Use only a few types of material. Alot of different materials in the level at one time will cause the thermo to fill.
- Stickers and Decorations are your best friends. They don't fill up much thermo space (if any), and they add atmosphere to your level.
- Don't over complicate things! The simple way is always the best way.
- Try sticking to one type of hazard material if possible. Having all three fills the thermo.
There are alot of other ways, but these are the most basic. Perhaps we should help the OP with his problem rather than explaining the same thing to him?
No. Materials thermo is separate. Using 20 materials won't impact on overall level thermo, use as many as your aesthetic needs.Quote:

Sorry, but there is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding of thermo-efficiency and it's not at all helpful to anyone.
edit Actually, I worked out a way a couple of months ago that MM could effectively increase the space in the "collected objects" thermo. It's to do with magnetic key detection and the varying colours.
What are you talking about thecheat? stickers and decorations use a lot of thermo every time you add a new one. Stickers are overrated. You can take a picture for like 1/10 the thermo of a sticker.
Since all my materials really only was Stickered Carboard and I started using the grid,the thermo really was not a problem for me anymore :hero:
hmm does not really bother me just use less materials although i hate the too complex shape thing
I dont have problems with thermo because i use the basic materials. materials like sponge and metal take up more thermo than polystirene and carboard. Its about being efficiant and still making it look good.
Why can't they add:) some more spaces to make levels on, when they release the create-over-internet thing.

It could be optional wether or not you could use the levels for yourself, or with cooperating with others.:grr:
Or, it could be a DLC, where the extra spaces are found on somtething called: My Meteorite! :eek:

Alex Evans has hinted to this before if it wasn't another molecule...that we'll get portals that allow us to load straight into another level. This way we can link our levels together. I'm sure it'll be a while before we see that.
