Beginning Thingy
Have you ever wanted to create your own RPG? What's that? You don't know how to script? Don't have enough time or money? Well then, this is the program for you!

Short Description
The name of the program is called RPG Maker, and it was created by Enterbrain. There are a few different versions. They are RM95, RM2k, RM2k3, RMXP, and RMVX. There is also RMDS, which is for the Nintendo DS. I'd recommend getting RMVX. It is great for beginners and experts alike. The others have a lot more bugs in them, and I haven't come across any in VX yet. However, XP and VX are only a 30-day trial, and cost $60 to buy. The others are free to use. It comes with a very simple database, which can be used to create characters, monsters, skills, states, animations, and a few other things. It also comes with a simple resource manager, which can be used to import/export graphics/music, and a Script Editor, which experienced users can use to completely change almost anything you want.

FAQ(taken from RMVX Official FAQ)
1. I keep getting an ntiles error... HELP!!!
When you first launch VX, you must be connected to the internet. If you are not connected to the internet then you'll get the ntiles error and you won't be able to use the software.
2. Can I use my own graphic in VX?
Yes, you just need to import them via the Material Base(F10).
3. The text is cut during conversation, what's happening???
When you are inputting text through the "Show Text" event, you'll notice 2 arrows(facing down) in the window. The first arrow(from the left) show how much text will be displayed if you include a face and the second one show how much text will be displayed when there is no face set.
4. I erase a character after a conversation but it show up again when i re-enter the area where the character is, what should i do to make him go?
The answer: Self-Switch! Create your character event. On the first page, put anything you need(conversation for example). At the end of the first page just add Control Self Switch A = ON then create an empty 2nd page and set the condition Self Switch A. If you want the character to dissappear then don't use any graphic for the 2nd page, if you want the character to remain on the map then use the same charset on the 1st page.
5. I want to display a variable in a conversation, how to do that?
Use the \V[X] command(replace X with the variable number). For example if i want to display the value of variable 54 then the command will be \V[54].
6. How to add my own custom title?
Place the graphic in your System folder for your game and name it Title.png.
7. I want to create my own custom graphic, what are the size of the tileset, charset, etc?
Refer to this page: http://www.tkool.jp/products/rpgvx/eng/material.html You'll get all the info needed for the size/specification of materials.
8. (not in the FAQ) I created a character set, with everything I needed to be in it, but when I give it to a character, only part of it is selected! How do I fix this?
Before you import the character, make sure the image name has a dollar sign($) before it. NOTE: Only do this for character graphics.
