Sneak's Honest Reviews

I'm back again. I tried some Xbox 360, but missed LBP. So, I want to review some levels. Hopefully this time around, people won't poke their nose in and complain when I defend my reviews.

If you aren't ready for criticism, you shouldn't post a level in this thread. I have high standards, it doesn't matter if I can create, I know what constitutes a good level. If you don't like my review, tell me, and I'll tear you apart- unless you have good points.

I'm not overly friendly like most of the community, so don't expect any of that if you don't deserve it. Anyway, here's the system:

The reviewing system will consist of a Five Star Rating, with each star having its own category. Each category will most likely have a brief description of why it did or did not receive a star. This is how the average review will look:

Visuals: :star:
Gameplay: :star:
Creativity: :star:
Length: :star:
Replayability: :star:

The "Visuals" rating will include the looks of the level as well as any characters you've created.

The "Gameplay" rating will consist of the overall "Fun" factor, meaning was it enjoyable to play through.

The "Creativity" rating determines whether your level included any new ideas, and/or the use of switches. Also will include any puzzles you've included.

The "Length rating is relative to the gameplay. For example, is it possible to last in your Survival Challenge, or is the level to long where it becomes redundant or is it too short, leaving me wanting more.

The "Replayability" rating will ask if there is any incentive to play your level again. This may also be used as an "overall" star, meaning that was it good enough for me to want to play it again.

If I mention a heart, your level is either insanely innovative (A level in Create Mode), or just plain amazing (Post-Apocalyptic). I don't give out many hearts.

I may end the review with a general Verdict of the level. Good luck.

Visuals: :star:
Everything looked pretty good, but there was a lack of decoration, I thought. I'm giving you a star here because I liked a lot of the little cutscenes and explosions. I did feel that more could've been done with the character design.

Gameplay: -
I thought that the gamplay was a little monotonous, with just running being a huge part. Not much of anything else, although there were other elements.

Creativity: :star:
I thought you had some legitimately funny dialogue, and for such an overdone setting, you made it very much your own.

Length: -
Not that the level was too short, but just the fact that I didn't do much for a longer time lost it for me.

Replayability: -
Story-driven levels don't usually have much incentive to play again.

Overall: :star::star:
The level is not a bad at all. I just felt it was a little too bland and redundant at times. The storytelling was done well and was pretty funny. I liked your opening presentation, but I also felt the character design was a little rushed.

The Pollo Chronicles: The Crazy Pollo

Visuals: -
The entire level was very bland. It was either stone on stone, or disco metal on disco metal. I felt this should've been varied a bit. The characters were a little too plain also.

Gameplay: -
A big thing for me is relevance. Why were there spinning fire circles? Why was I dragging pinkish balls? These are questions I kept asking myself, as they didn't seem to fit very well.

Creativity: -
I felt that in most spots the bare minimum was done. The story could have been a little deeper or at least had some more clarity.

Length: -
The level was very short, with a good bit of the time involving backtracking and getting back to obstacles after I died.

Replayability: -

Overall: -
The level looked plain and felt rushed. The story jumped around between narrative and dialogue, and was unclear. Using more decorations, stickers and materials would help a bunch. The level also broke, as the explosives at the end didn't kill me. The story ended very abruptly and finished with no gameplay, just words.

Relevance is important to you? you're trying to find logic in a game about living, breathing balls of sack that play around in a world made of dreams? anyway thanks for taking time to review it, thought your reviews would be more helpful until i saw your other locked thread and regreted posting my level for you to review.

I'm respecting and thanking him for opinion, as he's got a right to have one just as you and me, while i don't quite agree with him, i still value his thoughts as every feedback, both positive and negative can do nothing more or less than help me improve.

BTW some last points sneak, The level is part of a series that is story heavy, that's why you probably thought the story was too shallow, because you didnt had the backstory and as far as the relevance business, everything is there for the player to have fun, period.
anyway that's it.

I'm not as strict in my definition of relevance as you seem to think I am. While LBP is the most utterly random game ever, the fact that I dragged a pink ball and inserted it into a tree with a chunk taken out of its trunk just doesn't seem to fit, especially with no explanation of why I did this. I hope that makes sense, if not- that's unfortunate and you're not very sharp.

Thanks for the defend iGotFancyPants, I'll get to all other reviews as soon as possible. I just realized I have spring break this week, and I plan on partying a bit before I get any more reviews done. Could be several days.

Don't understimate my intellingence, there is a reason but i don't know why i forgot to add a mouth saying it: because the main character was going to a secret place of his to relax, that's why he has a security system and why he says "Thats why i love this place" right after he goes through, seems like i shouldve made it more explicit.

Cool, cheers. Nice review... The comic appearance of the level was the reason for the simplistic character design. Plus it helped to save thermo.

Right, I will ignore that last comment because of my forgiving nature, But the reason i posted it was to warn New Creators that your reviews are somewhat harsh, seen as you have only published bomb survivals i don't think you can comment on "creativity"

Like I said, and what you obviously chose to ignore, is that I am not a good creator but that does not mean I don't know what a good level is- let alone what is creative. So, I can comment on creativity, and on how you are a complete doosh bag. You seriously go around and "warn" people of how mean I am.. like I haven't done that in my introduction. Please, leave this thread alone, and stop trying to act cool with your "rich" quotes.

Edit by CC: If you'd like to call someone a name, at least spell it correctly. That way, you don't end up looking like a "doosh" bag yourself.

I have to admit, I could not tell what about half of those swears were. Possibly because so many swears have 3-4 letters. But seriously, I'm probably gonna have to tell a moderator about this ****. By that I mean stuff, just misspelled as stuf.

Alright, he's done posting for a few weeks. Hope he enjoys his spring break... but it won't be here that he spends that time. This is not action due to his reviews, but that manner in which he has decided to post. If he wants to review again, he can ask to have this thread unlocked. But, since he can't post...

I just wanted to pop in and reiterate: there's a difference between a critical review and a rude one. We don't expect you to baby people if you don't want to, but we do expect you to treat everyone with some level of common decency and respect. Throwing out childish insults and name-calling because someone doesn't agree with you completely destroys any credibility you may have had. [Note to those new to this thread: he was temporarily silenced for a since-deleted post riddled with expletives and just general rudeness - we're not bringing down the iron fist for nothing!]

Regarding the creativity aspect, we don't expect reviewers to have significant Creative talent. You had a point when you mentioned that you don't need to be able to Create a good level to identify one. Roger Ebert is a good example of that - correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's never directed or written a movie in his lifetime, and yet he is one of the most trusted voices in movie reviewing. I think that's where the comparison ends, though: while he is capable of being very scathing toward a movie that, well, sucks, he also manages to explain his opinion and somehow maintain a certain level of decency and respect toward the creative mind behind the "suck". You, however, seem to use this review forum as an excuse to be scathing as often as you possibly can, as an excuse to create conflict. That's why your review threads get locked - not because we can't handle the honesty, but because you don't seem to know how to deliver it without alienating everyone who attempts to participate.
