Data Mis-Transfer

There's a chance this will be a bit confusing, so try and follow me here ^_^;

I transferred my data from my broken fat PS3 to my new Slim PS3, but only the data that had been saved up to the Leerdammer update got moved over. My Slim PS3 does have the Game Data from the most recent profile I'd been using on my old system, but instead of carrying on with that profile's data, the Slim PS3 created a new LBP profile in its Game Data Utility. It was as though I had just downloaded Leerdammer the moment I booted up LBP on my Slim. I may have backed up my profile when I downloaded Leerdammer on my old PS3 (just to test the new backup feature), but all profile data (levels, objects, costumes, etc) after this supposed test backup did not transfer. I may just need to go into my old PS3's Game Data and back that up, then do another data transfer. *shrugs*

Whatever the case, my Slim PS3 seems to be ignoring my old PS3's LBP profile in favor of a new one. It could be worse, though: the transfer could've forced me to start over in LBP, completely from scratch.

I don't know if data in the Game Data Utility can be saved onto a USB stick or not (as far as I'm aware, only Save Data can be moved onto a stick). If it can, then my problem is simply buying a few USB sticks and downloading the Game Data onto them. If not, then I may have to send my old system to Sony (or somewhere reputable enough) to fix the Blu-ray drive. My PS3 is well out of warranty, so sending it to Sony is probably not a good option. Plus, there's the risk they'll fix the system, but wipe the data off completely, causing a new problem after solving my current problem.

Once I figure all this out, I'm going to make sure all my data is properly transferred over, then wipe my fat PS3 clean and sell the ******* thing >_>

Shout-outs go to Syroc, CCubbage and Sehven: You guys come highly recommended (by other members) for fixing problems like mine, so if you find this thread, please provide all the advice you can.

If there are others who have had similar issues with the new Data Transfer Utility and have any helpful information for me, as well, it would be much appreciated. I would turn to other sources of information about my problem, but since it's closely related to LittleBigPlanet, I figure LBPC will be of greater help.

Possibly the presence of the pre-Leerdammer profile data is confusing the PS3.

First of all, had you ever backed up your profile data from game data into save data? If so, just import from that.

If not, you could try retransferring, but deleting the pre-Leerdammer profile data before you start LBP for the first time.

The only other possibility I can think of is if downloading the demo version of LBP onto the old PS3 would allow you to backup your profile from game data to save data.

Game data doesn't transfer from one ps3 to another. At least, not like that it doesn't. There was a feature added to the ps3's firmware a while back that lets you transfer everything directly (through a network cable, I guess, but it might be through usb: I haven't checked). It does this by wiping it from the old ps3, and it supposedly re-keys the data to the new ps3.

If you do a regular backup, including the game data, anything that's keyed to your ps3 (many game saves are, and I'm pretty sure ALL game data is) will be rejected by the new ps3. If you can't do the straight transfer option, then you need to go into lbp and export your profile from there: the save data file it makes for you will be transferrable. If your ps3 is broken to the point where you can't get into lbp, then I'm afraid you're out of luck. For this reason, I export my profile a couple times a week, and back it up to a mem-card a couple times a month

Yup - that's what I was going to suggest - in the settings there is a new backup feature. Use it to backup your profile and restore to the new ps3. Manually copying the files isn't the right way anymore.

However... if you can't get into lbp on the old, you could just get the data before leerdammer, and then copy your published levels back to your moon on the new ps3.

I assume you're both referring to this, which is what I assumed the OP had done, since it's the only way to transfer your save data to a new PS3 and have it continue to work properly. Doing it any other way will lose the association between the save data and the user account ID, and the new system will think you've copied it from someone else, so you'll no longer be able to collect trophies for any copied game saves.

Regarding the ID, here's what I've said previously about it...

...which implies that it might not transfer the game data stuff correctly - which kinda blows really, since you probably can't manually back up the profile from game data into save data if you can't run LBP, since your Bluray drive is busted.

I had actually assumed he had done it the old way, which was to create a backup from the old ps3 and restore it on the new ps3, and that was why his data wasn't working. If it's true that game data doesn't transfer using the new method, then it's unfortunate, and it means it's even more important to perform frequent backups of your profile.
