What about brand new face expressions ?

Hi ! :)

Someone talked about this yesterday on another forum and I think it's a pretty good idea ! They could allow more than 3 face expressions per directionnal arrow, or add brand new expressions with some combinations like R3 + directionnal arrows.

I usually express my love by grabbing people or stickering them with flowers. ^.^

Well, I always wanted more expressions. Maybe narrow it down a bit, though. Maybe just an evil grin, embaressment, surprised and bored. Or annoyed.

It would be nice, but how can we make all those expressions :confused:

EDIT: Idea! :idea: In the popit, there could be a list of many expressions, and you can choose 4 exprassions, and map them to the Arrows/D-pad, whatevs. :p

I have an idea: Animations!

If you hold L1 and press the buttons on the d-pad, the sackboy will animate according to your expression:

IF NEUTRAL:
- Up: sackboy yawns
- Down: sackboy sits on the ground
- Left: sackboy falls asleep on his shoulder
- Right: sackboy looks at his hands

IF HAPPY:
- Up: sackboy jumps and punches the air
- Down: double thumbs up
- Left: sackboy shows pride
- Right: sackboy looks enthusiastic

IF SAD:
- Up: double facepalm
- Down: sackboy gets a rag an wipes his nose (I would pay to see this one!)
- Left: sackboy uses his hand to clean his tears
- Right: sackboy knocks his own head

IF WORRIED:
- Up: sackboy screams in fear!
- Down: sackboy shakes more tha usual
- Left: sackboy does this face
- Right: sackboy quickly looks around for danger

IF ANGRY:
- Up: smoke comes from sackboy's head (this one too!)
- Down: sackboy does a "bad loser" face
- Left: sackboy does a "devious" face
- Right: evil laugh

You mean exactly like in LBP PSP? :P

Yeah... Can't say because I don't have LBP PSP, but it would be nice. Like: you pass a hard part of the level and do the "happy up" animation.

you know, if you tap left rapidly it looks like your sackboy is throwing up, thats what I do on LBP when I want to express disgust. I would rather they worked on other things because I think the current face expressions have a lot of applicability and I don't like the thought of having to press 2 buttons for an alternative happy or annoyed face.

Yes please. I prefer the animation idea, it sounds better, plus, since it was apparantly used in LBP PSP (I don't have it), it sounds more likely. It could be used in conjunction with sackbots, making it more likely again :D

I was thinking about something like this earlier, but I was thinking that pushing two of the directional buttons at once could be used to make new expressions. For example, up and right would make the sackboy do this: :devious:

This method would be good if L1 was being used in a direct control set, and you wanted to make a face without activating something.
Then again, the animations in LBPPSP are very funny. In fact, I wish the regular LittleBigPlanet had them.

If the DCS uses the D-pad for something, you lose your ability to make the basic expressions. So I'll stick with L1

I've put some thoughts into this, too. And I was thinking...combining facial expressions! For example, holding up and right on the D-pad would make a cruel smile. I'll put a list down here.

Happy + Scared = zomahgoodness excitement

Sad + Happy= confuzzled (i know scared can work for this, but ya gotta fill in the button combinations)

Angry + Scared= "i didn't know that about you, John... (aka eyes widen, straight face, maybe crook an eyebrow)

Angry + Sad = embarrassed

Sad + scared= guilt, or "oh facepalm"

Happy + angry= Cruel smile (possibly "Pyro" face)

And finally, holding them all down at once gives you the horrible "constipated" face from the "try again" glitch.

I think it's alright as it is. I didn't particularly like the LBP PSP animations. And if you have loads then it'll just get too complicated.

Well, if you read my list again, you will notice some relation with the animations' direction and the buttons.

Yeah, since the PSP doesn't have two control sticks you obviously cannot move your arms around. So depending on your facial expression when you hold L1 and tap the varios directions of the D-Pad Sackboy(girl) animates. It's kind of like 'We're sorry we can't let you move your arms around, but to make up for it we'll add in cool animations!'
And they really are pretty cool. It'd be swell if they implented them into LBP2. But honestly I'd prefer they focus on gameplay mechanics. Like the new power ups and new materials we're all hoping for. (Goo anyone? Bahahaha!)
