ZOMG WAT?!?!!!
I tried perfecting a flying machine for almost six months. I could never do it.
So I think I'll just stick to my rods, pistons, winches, and other gadetry thank you very much.

I am in misery. My level deleted itself but I saved the object so I'm good. I just gotta put it into a level.
Flying machines are difficult. Just thought i'd let you guys know
Dw! This one wont be like my marshmallow mobile

So when do we get back to the good contests? You know, the ones where you had to make A LEVEL and not a gimmicky vehicle that flies, drives, and slices bread. The vehicle theme is getting really, really old.

@3B: HA! Funny! I liek!
Anywho, My vehicle is sorta like a space ship.
@SketchNZ's past post: I have the "Wheely" good sticker. I got it from LittleBigLand's Vehicle Triathalon competition. I won third.
I decided to make something that looks like a UFO, the flying works really well... I only have one problem now... how do I make it shoot and be able to control it at the same time? I'll think about that for the next few weeks :p
If you use a grab N jetpack kinda thing then you should try another grabbable material parallel to it which is (assuming your using rockets) connecetd to an emitter and the rockets a well.
I don't use a jetpack, I have several sponges around the sackboy. The sackboy can't move but using the analog stick you can control which sponge you want to grab and by doing so choosing the direction.
I was thinking about sacrificing the quick downwards movement (which is kinda useless as the UFO goes a little bit down by itself) and then adding a cannon that fires in the direction that you moved in the last time (some logic needed for that)
Well, I've made my flying mashine actually fly and be controllable, opposed to previous builds of it, all nicknamed "Cool-looking Mad Cartwheel Mashines".
But there is a problem that has occured: the mashine speeds up after time, and then rams itself into a wall, though it should be solvable with a Speed magnetic switch.
Keep on building folks!
I have a secret weapon in this contest, I'm using a gyroscope... I will probably tell you how it's done after the contest :p Unless you know how it's done, and I'm pretty sure you do know... haven't had time to check these forums that much...
It's true. I had problems, and I was "emotionally unavailable" if that's what you'd like to call it.
Sigh....
However, after a bit of "processing" the situation, I think I got it out of my system. So I'm hoping to re-enter the competition. For fun's (and sticker's) sake.
:)
Man, can't they have a contest that doesn't involve vehicles and innovation? I suck at both.
I think I have the logic done for my UFO, now all I need is the obstacle course that I'll build to demonstrate the capabilities of the UFO...
I don't really like the name UFO, it's not really a UFO... I shall call it N.I.F.O. aka "Napero's Identified Flying Object"
You won't have a chance against me :p
EDIT: Here it is, in create mode and in play mode
http://i55.tinypic.com/21lqryx.jpg
It seems the level got corrupt, my PSP crashes every time I try to enter it...
Good thing I've learned from my mistakes and now I had it backed up, now I only have to rebuild the intro part instead of the whole thing :p
And yes, a gyroscope. It's really simple... I promise to tell everyone how to do it... after this contest :p
Thats it im making a flying bread slicer now! thanks for the idea b3 :p maybe a toaster too.
Redid the vehicle, now it looks way awesome. And you and me have the same costume N.I.F.O. Dude.
Just in case someone is interested on my progress, I'll post here.
I think I'm done creating for today, I finished the logic for the NIFO, now it can't shoot when you are in the base, it drops down if you manage to get outside (not that you could get back in unless I build perfect platforms for that everywhere... but getting outside should be impossible unless you manage to die which should also be impossible...
I have a failsafe for that too, if you die, you restart at the base and my character tells you to restart the level. (emitting a new NIFO and resetting the logic is impossible, lol)
Also, I redid the whole intro section because of the corrupted file yesterday, now it's way better!
I think I spent way too much time on the title screen thingy. The instructions look nice though, should be pretty clear.
Next time I'll start on the main thing, (as if the NIFO wouldn't be the main thing, heh) the obstacle course! You have a mission to fly the NIFO to another base, no hard task, I'm just showing the capabilities of the NIFO on the way there.
This will be epic! :p
Oh also, I guess it isn't too much of a coincidence that we both have the spacesuit costume, it's new and it's awesome.
Normally my costume would be a sackboy in a suit with that walking stick and nice black hair :p
Just got a pic of the sticker! ;)
Not red :(

Hmm. It's blue, but not blue enough to make an effort. ;)
Let's see...
Can you attach a winch to it just so you can reel the vehicle back to the checkpoint if it gets flipped?
If you can, then I guess my vehicle is finished.
Gonna go do the level now!
Wow that sticker is awesome. I have the Wheely good one so I need this Wheely better one! (Oh crap that was lame, why didn't I delete those acursed letters!)
I must admit this competition has been quite challenging so far. I've been playing around with flying machines quite a bit recently and come up with a couple of designs that fly really well, and originally I had attempted to adapt for this challenge. However, the 'secondary function' requirement has been giving me a bit of a headache: My flying machine concept is based on a small, light craft that only has one control input. Eventually I decided I couldn't come up with something to fit on my ship that wasn't disappointingly underwhelming (like a hook hanging from the bottom for carrying items).
So, last night I had a thorough rethink and I'm now well on my way to getting a completely new, larger, and more interesting design finished that so far I'm very happy with.
I've managed to whip up an interesting vehicle, but I feel a new one is in order...Hopefully I won't be torn between the two.
here is a list of entrys so far
my plane by: beasty23jk hmmm i wonder who that hunko hotness is :p
Oh, uh, sorry Sketch, really didn't mean to be offensive about it! I really can't think of a convincing way to retract what I just said...
oops
I think my entry's finished now - the demo level is extremely simple but I suppose there isn't much point in making it spectacular, plus the more I edit it the more danger I face of my flying machine breaking.
Don't worry about it i was kidding, i hadn't even started my entry when i posted that.
I do have a new design, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do to get it up and flying. I would use rockets (obviously), but the balancing-out is just a hassle.
I also haven't thought of a 2nd function to add to it. I myself, don't want it to be simple and boring.
AAARG i hate REAL flying machines, if you read the turbo develipment diary about the "Plane stupid' level they had a ton of trouble with that plane,
I have an idea and i have already tryed 2 vehicles but got rid of them because they were to hard to get to fly. i got to say this is a very very hard contest and all you have is peach floaty and thrusters to make it fly. can sombody make a tutorial on air vehicles for me please? i dont seem to be getting it at all.
and wtf is happening with these moter bolts?
Leave it to Salieri to make an epic flying machine tutorial. He is the "Vehicle Mechanics" god of LBP PSP.
Wait....peach floaty and thrusters? Ever tried using different materials? It gets a lot easier...
How unpopular would it make me if I made a tutorial after the closing date of this competition? I don't want to ruin my chances...
Well, I've published my entry - it's called:
CC Flying Machine: Little Big Corvette
by
SalieriAAX
Had a bit of a breakthrough last night with the balance so it's now really stable unless you crash it really really hard.
Well, I suppose that's actually quite a long wait. I'll have a think about how I'd do it and may publish something before if I come up with something satisfactory - my main problem is I have no way of taking screenshots.
Ohhh so that's how the demo level is supposed to look like, I thought making a huge level with the vehicle in it!
