if a tree fell down in the middle of the forest, and no ones there to to hear it, does it make a sound?
one of the most weirdest question i heard? What do you guys think?
I think it does since it still makes a sound even if no ones there to hear it

Yes, because if it didn't, the squirrels and birds living inside wouldn't notice that the tree fell, and they'd go on living their lives in a fallen old tree. :D
If you exclude other living creatures, no, no sound was made as sound is just vibrations without someone there to hear it.
To get more details that it does make sound. It's like saying, if a book falls down and no one's there, does it still make a vibration with sound waves?
Of course it does.
In a scientific way, Yes
In a abstract point of view, No.
It's a "wisdom telling" thing..
Oh so trees just randomly decide to fall down in forests now do they?
Anyways...apparently to this, sound is only produced when the brain perceives it, so no, it does not make a true sound.

"It would make an energy wave in the frequency of a sound wave but it wouldn't be 'sound' until/unless it was processed by the brain, so it doesn't make a sound! :grr:"

Of course it makes a sound. Unless its on mute of course.
If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it... did I just get away with tree murder?
i dose make a sound its like saying
if an old lady dies and no one around to see it , is she really dead . well YES
lol
.
As long as there's no one to hear it, then there are just vibrations. Vibrations become sounds when they are perceived.
.
Nope, because reality=perception.

How do we know the tree fell down? Maybe it noticed no one around and quietly laid down for a nap?

That what gets me with this question, why WOULD a tree fall down at the first place?Quote:

Sound (noun) Can refer to either the perception of the vibrations through an elastic medium or the vibrations themselves. so ... yeah.
Whoever came up with this was very bored and/or inebriated.
RockSauron hears everything.

Clearly someone's never lived by a forest. Trees fall down all the time. If trees never fell down, you'd never see any young trees! Maybe they grow old and rot away until they topple, maybe the dirt that their roots in is compromised, maybe just a gust of wind... But they certainly do fall. Every tree on its side in the forest wasn't put there by a human.
String of Moon feel ground shiver. Then stop. I feel gust of wind from from far away. Butterfly in the Wind tell me Tree has Fallen down. Me sad. :(
They don't make a sound, they make a black hole.
