What should I know for LBP 2?

So, hi guys. I'm new to LBP, I have never played the original, because I dismissed it as a kiddie game, but when I saw a person on a my friend's list playing it nonstop, I looked more into it, found out about about its level creator, and immediately looked for the release date of LBP 2. So, I was wondering, when LBP 2 comes out, what should a person know to be "good" at this game, because I don't want to enter the level creator, and have a question mark over my head and spend 5 hours trying to figure out how something works. Like, basics, or things I shouldn't/should do, and what is, or I think I should say isn't possible in LBP 2, and what is different from LBP 1.

Well, I can't tell you how to be "good" at this game. Everybody is good at something. That's the best thing about LBP. You can make just about anything you want. Some people make levels that show you how to make cool costumes for sackboy. Some people have levels with custom stickers. Some people are good at making objects such as mechs, vehicles. I could go on forever. You just have to find what you are good at and do it. As far as knowing how to use the tools, you'll just have to play it and go through the tutorials. It shows you how to use the in game tools. This website has TONS of tutorials on level creation, object creation, glitch exploitation, anything. The difference between LBP 1 and 2 is that the second has more tools and a new set of story levels to play through and collect materials and stuff to use to create levels and costume pieces for sackboy. All the stuff from LBP1 can't be collected from LBP2. But if you're interested, why not rent the game and check it out? Or browse this site and see all the cool things people have made. There's videos, pics, tutorials everywhere.

Well well well well well!

I don't want to bog you down with 'advice' because that seem overwhelming and put you off, and no one wants that :P

One thing to know about LBP, is that there is always help. As far as creation goes, there are a load of easy and fun tutorials (narrated by Stephen Fry no less!), no end of helpful tutorial levels and useful fan-sites such as this one (this one is the best, no really :P )

There is no definitive way to be 'good' at this game, everyone has their own style.

BUT, however, I will say that practice is the key. If you're thinking about what you could make now, you'll have to believe me when I say when you play the story mode through, you'll be bursting with ideas. And even whilst you mull over your own ideas, not quite sure how to put them together, you'll be able to dive into the community levels.

To what I said earlier ^^ , no one comes to this game and is great immediately. It doesn't happen.

What isn't possible in LBP2?

Well, i'm in the beta and after hours of tooling around in create, hours of playing community levels and hours of madly doodling ideas on paper I can tell you that there isn't a lot you can't do...

Not that i'm saying it'll be easy, i've seen people make Might and Magic inspired dungeon crawlers, Star fox inspired shooters, Command and Conquer style RTS concept levels, side scrolling shoot-em-up levels; Theres loads! The real gems will always end up being platformer style levels, with these sections added in. If you dig around on this site some more you'll find what is possible in LBP2.

I'll say this

if you're a musician...you'll find LBP2 easy
if you're an intellect...you'll find LBP2 easy (intellect as in good with math and science)
if you're a construction worker ;)....you'll find LBP2 easy
if you're a game designer...you'll find LBP2 easy

basically whatever you're job is or whatever your skills are...you can use them in LBP2 to be a decent/good creator/player :)

Okay guys this is a definite buy for me now, but I have a few questions if you can answer them. I might think up a few more too later on. 1st, Can you make teleporters? As in you step into something, it then teleports you to another place with a teleporter. And if so, can you put a bunch of them and make them teleport to others in a random way? 2nd, After reading that everything from LBP1 will be in 2, is there anything you will NOT be able to get if you buy LBP 2 without buying 1? Like, I know if you buy DLC without buying 1, it'll still work, but I was wondering if there was something that wouldn't. 3rd, Can you add like an item randomizer of a sort? Like for example, I distribute an apple, an orange and a pear in my level, and 3 trees. Can I make it so that the fruits will spawn randomly in each tree, as in if Player 1 plays it, the second tree might have an apple, and if Player 1 then plays it again, the second tree has a pear, and the third time the 1st tree has the apple, and so on in no pattern at all?

1. Yes, LBP1 required you to "explode" though, LBP2 has an easier way of doing it.
2. You probably read incorrectly. If you have played LBP1, everything that you unlocked will transfer over to LBP2, you can't get LBP1 stuff automatically in LBP2.
3. There is a randomizer in LBP2, so I guess you can do that. LBP1 had logic that had to be hand crafted, LBP2 doesn't require you to do that anymore with a few exceptions.

I know alot of people that think this is a kiddy game, but it is much MUCH more then that :). If you need anymore help, look throughout the LBP2 section of the forum. There is ALOT of stuffz.

Not entirely my thing the create side of the game, but teleporters are doable, with help from the logic tools and what not. As for the randomisation, there is a randomiser logic 'microchip' which you can use, but not sure if that alone would give you the result of what you are looking fir here. May need to combine some other logic with it to get that effect.

Now as for the DLC and what not, any current DLC bought from the store will work in LBP2. The thing you will not get by only buying the sequel is the materials/stickers/costume pieces etc that are gained by playing/completing the LBP1 story levels.

You have to unlock those items in LBP1 and then transfer the save file into LBP2 to allow you to use them in there.
There are 100% save files available on the net to download, however those may not actually work when importing them into LBP2 as Mm may have somehow blocked shared save file from being used in this manner to get access to LBP1 items without actually buying/playing it.

Even then if they did work, the likelihood is that they would be utilised in the same way as they are now, which is that the game would detect it as a copied save file from a different account and block the ability to earn any further trophies.

1. Teleporters can be done with sackbots. There is a copyable level in the beta for this.
You could randomize the teleporter, but thats a little more complex, and involves some hologram and followers.

2. Shouldn't need LBP1 for anything AFAIK.

3. There is a really nifty randomizer tool, that in my tests, works quite nicely. and.. yeah, you could do that.

well if you didnt go through the story levels and get all items you wont have them in lbp2 will you? otherwise i might as well stop trying to collect everything and just wait

Don't worry about it their will be tutorials to teach you almost everything you need even the most basic things,the rest you can find in levels or on forums,like this.

The most important tip I can offer is to know your basic "logic gates". Sounds a little...odd for a video game, but they're very simple when you get to know them:

- AND Gate: Requires x AND y to produce z.
- OR Gate: Requires x OR y to produce z.
- XOR Gate: Requires x OR y to produce, but x AND y will not produce z. (In other words, only one input can be active, but if both or more are active, it won't produce an output).
- NOT Gate: Inverts the output. Usually it's like if x is active, y is NOT. If x is NOT active, y is active.

Those are you basic logic gates. They come IN LBP2 and they come with tutorials as well so be sure to check those out when you pick up your copy. :)

Thanks for answering everyone, about these Gates, what are the possible stuff you can make Z? Also do these function like actual gates, like opening and closing?

No they are not actual "gates". They are switches that people have made for other people to use to make more complex things. In the game you get a button you can hook up to something. We'll say a door. If you jump on the button the door will open and you can go to the next area. But let's say you use an "AND" gate. Then you can make door that will only open if sackboy jumps on the button switch and also pulls a lever. That means you can make it so maybe sackboy has to find a few different things in order to proceed. With all the different in game switches and the switches that people have made you can make just about anything. And that's not exxagerating at all really. But if you want all the goodies from LBP1 you could just rent it and beat story mode 100%. It doesn't take very long. And you could even find people on here that will join in and help you.

Thanks, now I know the Creatinator can shoot projectiles, but can you make it the image of a gun? Or make something that does? Also can Sackbots equip it? Also, is there an option for Sackbots that adjusts how many hits they can take from say, a bullet or a bomb? Also, can Sackbots be dismembered(Yes I am violent =3)

No creatinator stays with the same look
and it shoots out whatever you want it to shoot out (i mean ANYTHING)
and sackbots can equip it
you can also make weakpoints for sackbots so yes in a way you can adjust how many hits they can take
and NO sackbots cannot be dismembered...this is a game for the FAMILY...not for people who want to see gore (wtf?)

I don't think you can make the Creatinator look like a gun but you could most likely build your own Creatinator shaped as a gun with some trickery.

Again I'm not sure if there is an actual option but I bet you could build something yourself to get the same results.

Lol I asked about the dismemberment thing because I wanted to make it so a sackbot gets injured and you have to drag him to safety beacuse he can't walk. But I guess I can make him break his bone instead of losing his leg

If you want a gun you could always get the metal gear solid DLC and you will have the paintinator. It's a paintgun. And if you had that you could put a paintswitch on the sackbot and after it takes so many hits it could trigger an emitter that would emit poison gas onto the sackbot therefor killing it. And if you had the Thack gas glitch, which you can get, the gas would be invisible so basically the sackbot would just do the evaporate thing. But you're not going to be dismembering any sackbots unless you actually make one out of materials and dissolve certain parts one at a time. But then it wouldn't really be a sackbot I guess.

I recal hearing Paintinator, Water, scuba gear, etc. will be included upon release with LBP2, wether you got the pack or not, you won't have ny of the materials or costumes, or anything else from those packs but I think those are included from start.

Also, controlinator, you can't change its shape, but you can disguise it, I got a thread about it actually. :p

So, as you can see, you can not only use the creatinator as the tool it is, but to also force a costume upon the player(s) without using Sackbots, simply by setting the creatinator to "cannot be removed," and removing any emittable objects, (or emitting one inv. thing only.) unless you want the costume to shoot something too.

Really good if you wanna set the player for a part without disrupting the pace of the level. (gassify it and place it underground halfway/ minmize it or something so its less visible if you want.

So, yeah, I just thought I'd share that bit of info to show another reason why its not "just an emitter' anymore. :p
(I know some may know already, but many still seem to not know.)

Ps: The straps on the helm and cartridge/ backpack area are also deco-able, really useful! :D

lol remembered this and STILL haven't gotten around to decorating my own creatinator...does this work with other powerups? or ALL? cuz that would be too epic :)
