interesting, but do you think it would be fair to those who have spent time on their creations that have not yet been published, or those that have been published but not chosen as an Mm pick? I certainly don't think it would be.

But the creations I have made would never existed if I held back! Thats what I'm trying to say. I've been starting stuff from scratch each time though, so I can recreate it in the full game easily. Screw my FPS guns, various logics, I can repeat that. The chopper! I want to keep it :(
I didn't exactly mean scared, maybe reluctant?
That can easily work but if the level are broken on the retail version... Well that just causes problems.
And it's not entirely fair on the people who don't get to keep their stuff.
I see what you are saying. Reluctant is a much better word, and certainly fits my case more appropriately. Don't get me wrong, I haven't been holding back for lack of creative ideas.... I have plenty I'm using the beta to test for the finished game. But I'm just not willing to spend time on full finished products that will be erased for (as far as I can tell) no good reason. To be honest, like a few other people... I'm really surprised at some of the levels people have created and published knowing it would all be wiped away after the beta. I guess I just consider my time too valuable to spend it on something I know won't last and I'll have to do again based on the "claims" that it's too much work for Mm to bring it over to the full game.
As I said, when I read that statement I decided right there and then it wasn't worth my valuable time and efforts to publish anything. Had we been told things would transfer, I certainly would have shared something by now. ;)
As for your chopper, it's a shame you can't keep it. It really is an excellent piece. Luckily, you seem talented enough to recreate it in a few months. :)
i'd like to see a few gems make it to the real game... i want lbp2 to have it's azure palaces and worlds of color for nostalgia's sake.
i don't want to have to rebuild brain ape again, but since i'm going to scrap the demo level anyway, and the 2nd time i built his logic to streamline it all on everything, i realized it really won't be hard to do. shouldn't take me more than 4 hours to tweak everything back in, and will probably end up more efficient and organized again. i just want a video of it, so i can remember exactly what color filters and lighting settings i used, as well as the sounds on everything.
if i learned anything from lbp1, it's that there's no need to rush and stress out, or hang onto old stuff because by next week you've built something even better, and by the next year you're looking at your first levels wanting to rebuild them completely and wondering what you were thinking.
i keep meaning to snap pics of logic boardsand export to HDD, but will probably never remember to.
Call me horrible, but I hope we truly do start with a totally clean slate for everyone. One thing that bugged me about the LBP1 pre-release beta is that the levels that were popular from that stayed popular forever due to the way cool pages worked, making it very hard for anyone to get plays and causing a lot of them to be highly overrated. It's unfair enough we all have months of experience with the tools before anyone else.

Great point. I'd still really prefer if we all got to keep our creations from the beta, as this would make my work and testing even more worth while than the simple knowledge I've gained. I think it should be all or none. Either eveyone get's to keep what's on their moon and what they've published... or no one does. It simply wouldn't be fair to only keep Mm picks or cool pages and leave other great creations not yet published behind just because they weren't ready to share with the community.
You make an excellent point though, about popular levels staying popular and newer levels having to "fight" their way up. Didn't the water levels all transfer over from the beta for that too?
I think it shouldn't transfer either. ;) I mean, what about those levels where people hacked the BETA and were able to give away crowns and such? That's just my two-cents.
i'll be very angry if only MM picks get transferred over... or only stuff from people they like. It'd basically be telling me that what I put out is worthless compared to what was picked.
of course, i know that because it will upset me so much, and that I don't want that to happen... that it'll be exactly what happens. instead of enjoying my rebuild process, i'll just be bitter and resentful.
It took a long time for me to come to terms with my pre-emptive bereavement, but I think I've finally come around to the fact that the beta is only a dress rehearsal for the big show.
TBH, it's been a great opportunity to step out of my own box to build some stuff that is fundamentally, un-Ungreth and have fun with ideas that would never have seen the light of day if this had been the final version of LBP2. I mean...Ungreth does generic, top-down army vehicle shooter? Nah, that doesn't sound right! Well, blink and you'll miss it, because I'll be jumping right back into my comfort zone (doing weird *****) once our creations are for keeps again.
I know that many other creators are doing the same, holding out on their best ideas until the final, so perhaps the beta is best viewed as a practice run and as an opportunity to experiment with different stuff that falls outside of your established style.
Rustbukkit finds it odd and amusing that Ungreth refers to itself in the 3rd person. :p
I haven't really made anything that I don't want to lose.
All I'd really like to keep is my custom logic microchips I've made, but I'm sure I can make some new ones again if I need to :)
So far I've stuck to building simple stuff too. The thing is, is that I can't restrain myself any longer. I've started a new project, and it's just been pouring out of me like crazy.:p I know we'll lose everything, but I think I'll still have a blast rebuilding it, because when the full version comes, we'll get so much new stuff that the level will probably hardly resemble the first version anyways. In the beta they really didn't give us much beyond the lbp1 materials, objects, and decorations. That's the biggest thing I'm looking forward to at this point. Can't wait for all that new stuff!
Yeah everything worthwhile I have made in the beta I have put onto YouTube to show the eager Audience of lbp what can be done. I for one don't know when the beta ends but I plan to make some level videos before :p
remember you can't even use objects with DLC you don't own
so what do you think will happen in the full game when you have a crown sackbot and try to place it down?
only thing GOD GLITCH made me want is the POD so we can keep our CREATE-PODs
but tbh i just wish we could keep whatever we back-up into save files and import to the full game (assuming this doesnt work obviously)
All 70 of my songs, down the tube.
Oh well. I just hope I didn't kill my enthusiasm for music making during the beta.
at least the BETA has no expiration date so feel free to visit your level again in the beta...check out everything in there and do whatever methods you have to remember...and just re-create everything in LBP2 if you feel like it :)
in the end it's not as bad as it seems
