I'll probably never get the chance to use it but I've often wondered what it's like to use. It's an Autodesk program so is it similar to AutoCAD or any other 3D modelling program?

Weirdly, it is nothing like AutoCAD 2D or 3D and I do use both.
TBH, I have been using programs since the birth of the Tandy TRS80 using basic programming, so I normally pick up software pretty quick... 3DS Max is NOT intuative for two reasons... 1) working in 3D space is far more complex and 2) Autodesk haven't done a particularly good job!!
Having said that, most of the functionality is pretty straight forward once you get to grips with any 3D package.
You deal with models, made up with vertices (points) edges and faces...
The models have a material applied the surfaces (which can have transparency or reflection)....or even use volumetric material (such as smoke). These models can be manipulated according to certain criteria - such as using a poseable skeleton whcih then moves the model how you want it. You can morph too, like the facial expressions of a sackboy.
You can apply a surface texture - or lots of layered textures.
Lighting is created from scratch - ambient, spotlights, areas etc.
Atmospheric effects can also be added such as general ambient lights or mist etc.
The list goes on and on..... which is why it's pretty complex.
However, 3D packages offer some fantastic advantages such as smooth animations (check out my current sig) and if anyone is interested, I would really suggest putting some effort into it to get the best out of it.
If you're really interested, start off using Blender - a really powerful open source 3D package from www.blender.org

I would also suggest Google's Sketchup, It's what I first used and is very easy to get to grips with and you can get some nice results.
Ok took about an hour to rig him but it's close to perfect now, howMUCHforBOUNTY your rap pose request is done, if you need the camera angle changing or something let me know anyway here it is

I'm still happy to take other requests too ;)
That's really cool! I can't believe your model slipped past me in the first place. It's very well done. :D
That's really well done. Its definitely one of the best ones I've seen. I'm with Zim, I can't wrap my head around all this :l I'll stick with mah 2D art. I've always wanted to learn 3D modeling, but I'm terrible with 3D art. My origami in elementary school looked like used tissues.
Thankyou, really mean a lot to get such positive feedback :), also LBP2 demo inspired me, so I spent some time this evening working on this little project :P

That would be awesome, and how would one go about submitting it to them?

Much appreciated, submitted and it's whoozling along now :P, fingers crossed they like it
Wow, nice rap pose and hilarious video xD You definitely deserve a crown and if you want a request, you could still do mine I asked a while back about him holding his hands up like he's been caught by a cop
Lol that's awesome!
The robot dance is priceless!
That is the greatest sackboy dance thing I've ever, ever seen. :D
Thank you so much, I am really starting to hate WMG now, muting my audio :(, so I uploaded it to Vimeo too! And resubmitted the newer video to MM, fingers tightly crossed they read the email and like the video :)
