Do you have a time preference when you are creating a level? How long should a level last for?
Mine is about 5-6 minutes if i rush through and do the basic things (not collecting all bubbles ect)
But when i get comments like 'Too Long' or 'Too short' i get a bit confused.:confused:

I dont know if im reading your post right, but if your saying you make levels in 5 minutes, theres no way their of any quality at all. And i wouldnt call it a level, more say, a wooden block with a string attached.
No he's talking about how long you lay out the level to be.
I usually expect a straight up platforming level to be about 5-10 minutes long.
While I build I usually aim for that, but my levels often never get past the 5 minute mark...
It depends on the level type.
A story based puzzle/platformer level I would expect to last around 10 - 15 minutes - depending on quality.
A survival - should probably not exceed 10 minutes or it's not really a challenge to survive.
Ambient levels: then there's the "mess around" levels - with no set goal or narrative - but maybe something interesting or unique.
They could be anything from a minute to an hour.

I should of just asked how long should a level like a platform one last for?
I like my games (if they are a showcase with no real plots) for the time to be decided by the player. If it has a plot I aim for 5-10 minutes.
I don't really shoot for a time. I guess they typically last for 5-10 minutes, give or take, depending on how tough some of the puzzles are. I've only recently honed my LBP creator skills so my next level will be the true test.
I like to make my levels so you basically can choose how much time you spend in them. If you take my "A Bark In The Dark" level for instance, this is a multi-path platformer with multiple secrets to find. The casual player can take one path, not find all the secret and finish it in 5 mins. The hardcore LBPer can explore the level in it's entirety and find the secrets wich would take like 20-30 mins.
no he means it takes 5 mins to PLAY it ;) that is a big difference
