so what do you guys do? lately i've been getting a lot of PSN messages, comments, and reviews on my level hating. I think it's either jealousy, they are doing the "don'ts" ( I made How not to make a level in Mm picks) or just plain annoying kids. How do you all deal with the haters? i know Haters gonna hate but it just frustrates me that people can be so asinine.
I just ignore haters. In games and life. In games, it's even more pathetic when they send hate mail because they're on the other side of a television.
Just ignore 'em., I say.
If i get any whatsoever, i just ignore, BUT: Sometimes some haters have points, and you can learn very important information to get beter on your next level. If not, just ignore it. Dont do anything at all. The haters want your response.
Well it's not that bad imo, i seen greater flameing. Well issue with your do/don'ts is not very pretensive design of the level it self ( i know since i played it on LBP1 :p) and lot of people tried to point that out, this level got MMPicked by some might not understand why. Lot of people treats MMPicks as a mark of quality and expectations are higher, truth is MMPick is a mark showing that MM developer like it for some reason. As old MMPick formula in times when it was only blog thingy MM developer that picked you comment and say why, it would be nice if they added something like this in the game (for example in form of always on top review) ;]
Some seems like simply don't like to have someone telling them what to do or don't not aggre with some do or don't :p

Don't sweat it my man. There's always going to be people in this world who will never be pleased with your work. Just ignore them.
Well i say don't ignore them compliantly, try to notice hwat they hate in your level and you culd improve those parts somehow to make them happier. Bu biggest problem here is fact that you need to see difference in what is there personal opinion or whats some truly annoying thing. Personal opinions are difficult to deal with, since some people may like what you did it some don't, but when you start change levels for other people, the first people who like it might not like it anymore.Quote:

People are entitled to hate your levels, but I don't believe they are entitled to leave personally abusive or threatening comments. It's important to differentiate between comments such as "meh, this was too hard...I didn't find it fun" (which is fair enough), and comments such as "you are ***, you suck", which is absolutely not acceptable. Seriously...if some punk kid walked up to me in the street and made a comment like that, I would probably rip out his eyes and urinate in the sockets, but I guess it's easy to be a bad mouthed little smart *** when you're hiding behind a TV screen.Quote:

The thing about haters is, they only represent a very small demographic of the game (and the internet as a whole). It's just that they are very vocal, and so appear to be in greater number. I'd say that your best bet is to ignore them. Biting back will give them exactly what they want; attention. Ignore them and they'll eventually go away. That is how trolls work.
i play LBP to have fun. so when someone wastes my time by giving me
rude comments on my levels or just anything i dislike in general,
like "this level sucks" i delete the comment and LOL, simple as that.
i don't need or want any bad feedback unless it's a bug report.
I'm not interested in how someone thinks my level could be better
if i made it like they like. it's my level. i made it as away to express
my fantasies, not there's. it's ok if they want to give some friendly advice on
how my level could be better. but only if it's done in a nice way.
if it's annoying, = delete. see the thing is i don't make my levels for other people,
i make them for my self, making my fantasies real.
but i do enjoy seeing others enjoy my fantasies too. so i put them up for
whoever is interested. this is why i have no interest in Hearts Etc.
they don't mean much to me, as that's not why i make levels. if alot of people like them, it's cool. if not. it's fine.
anyways I'm my own worst critic, i don't need or want others bad criticism,
And no matter what anyone else opinion
is when it comes to this kind of thing. I'll delete anything i find annoying as i see fit,
also i grow more from when people give me nice and or friendly reviews,
as ones that are mean just annoy me and i never grow from anything that bugs me.
so in the end think 2 times before ever leaving me a review

I just delete anything that is rude on my levels! On my level Ice Cream Adventure in a review a guy said "This is *** and sucks *** go **** yourself loser die" (Thats actually very close to what he said) So I just deleted and no other hate so far :)
I don't see how this is all that great to do personally, I've had a similar thing but in reverse. I posted a review on this guys level that was awful and it was on cool pages so I posted a comment saying, "If you want to play a real versus level come to mine." he then came to my level posted "My level is way better don't be jelious" and booed my other levels, I laughed so hard at his immaturity that I almost cried. But then again his level was genuine crap lol and mine had tons of more detail in it.Quote:

I ignore any abusive comments, and try to see where simply "negative" comments are coming from. I recently re-published my first level (re-published in LBP2, I took down all my levels to tweak them because of changes), made in the long-long-ago time of LBP before the creation kit #1 was released (global lighting, etc), and the only comment currently on it is "too confusing." This is absolutely true; it's all style over substance, but I just don't want to re-make it. :p
I assume that you personally get more negative replies that are simply fueled by anger over your level calling out people on their levels though, ha. That's what happens when people see their tried-and-true level designing techniques with a giant "DON'T" sign next to them. :)
The best way to deal with them, is to not deal with them at all.
If they become persistant, block'em and report one of their messages in the "Grief report" at the bottom of the list-menu that appears when you press triangle while highlighting a message.
may be minor, but harassment is still against PSN rules.
i havent had many haters but I hate the fact that my level just vanished from highest rated when i was like number 6, and that was the only way i was getting plays, also the fact that it never got to cool levels when it had 15 boos 325 yays 152 hearts and 600 plays. just makes me want to put lbp2 the shelf and forget the 58 hours of create time on A STUPID LEVEL!

The hate for being on MMpicks is insane, hate comments on the level are meh, but to take the time out to send me a msg on PSN, where you have to type my psn ID in, I don't know if I should be flattered that they cared that much, or offended because they took that much time and effort just to send me hate.
I've got dozens of psn messages telling me to "******* DIE", "**** off", "Make a real level, ***", "Destroy Mona Lisa, it sucks", etc.
And one out of three people apparently don't like it, so theres a lot of it.
But, I'm with rtm, ignore it. Most of the people who send hate or too stupid to spell die correctly. Dye, deye, di, dy, and dai are not substitutes for die and they never will be.
If they are too stupid to be able to spell, chances are what they have to say is unimportant and should be ignored.

Acknowledging them in any way will let them know that they're getting to you which is exactly the reaction that they're looking for... which in turn will lead to more of that behavior, and thus the cycle begins all over again.
I got a comment once that just said "stupid," but from looking at LBP.me I found that they gave the my level a good rating. Confusing, so I sent a message asking politely for a little more info, like why he found it stupid. Big mistake, since this kid couldn't articulate anything, and next thing I know he's posting comments on the level saying that I was a stalker. I sent a private message to say: hey, I just asked a question, not trying to upset you, sorry if I did. Then came the barrage of profane insults, from this kid and also his sister. Turns out he told her that I called him a hooker. What?!? I told the sister what was going on and that I didn't call anyone names. She said sorry and we dropped the who thing. Then a day or two later the little brother sent me another message telling me to eat a doggy treat, with an attached image. And the weirdest part: the pic was a gorgeous high def image of an overwater bungalow in the tropics. Again, confusing. After all that, I expected the him so send a picture of a butt or a turd.
Lesson learned: Some people just don't make any sense, so be logical at your own risk. I just try to keep it honest (if someone's level is lousy, I'll say it needs work) and I don't swear at people because you never know who's who and how old they are, and I feel better for not having called some 10 yr old all the things that came to my mind.
With all of the hate that my levels are sure to bring out in people, ive been lucky to have mostly positive comments on my levels.
Of course, this might only be because they've gone pretty much undetected so far.

@pookachoo, that's quite a bizarre story, I have no idea how to deal with that level of "crazy" to be honest. But it sounds like you dealt with it very maturely, congrats. ;)
One "harsh" way I used to dealing with haters is when someone sends me hate mail, I just kept posting random but not offensive comments on their profile until they lose it and does something so serious they get banned for it. It actually worked on multiple users who hated me for no reason.
NOTE: Hate mail was not from this site. It was some other forum on a different site.
My advise is to moderate any haters, spammers or people who insult you.
Examples of Comments that can be moderated...
-This level sucks
-You suck
-Thats right, **** the ***** and **** it all in your ***
-PLEASE PLAY MY LEVEL (enter level name here)
Examples of comments that don't need to be moderated...
-This level needs better visuals. (or any suggestions)
-Why was this an Mm pick? (questions like these can be legit as some people may actually want to know)
Some more important advice would be not to insult them or spam them back... *looks at Ungreth* This kind of thing is immature and doesn't bring anything good, only a sick sense of self satisfaction.

I agree with Snake Mountain, if people continue to hate on you (specifically one person) than it is not a bad idea to talk it over. I give people the benefit of the doubt all the time because I know there is a lot of **** that can go on in one persons life, and despite possible confusion from it, they need an output. For example, when Halo 3 first came out I was waiting in a lobby with 4 other people when this guy started to make rude remarks. He kept insulting me and making even more serious statements for about a week before I talked to him. I didn't hate on him back, I just told him that his attitude wasn't necessary and that he needed to be cool. He actually than apologized to me and said that he didn't mean anything he said, it was just that he was going through a lot lately.

You have no idea how users hate me don't you? Some users on a different site refuse to apologize for their "rude" behaivior. Talking with them has made things opposite of progress. :( I have tried to block them. Nyaa, haters are in my opinion just strange monsters you randomly encounter in pubishing levels.
Just like in JRPGs, you have three options:
-"Flee" (Ignore and move on)
-"Attack" (Basically criticize back)
Or if you're playing Pokemon:
-"Capture" (Turn them into good peeps and not "wild" ones)
I suggest to flee or attack. Works good.
Or attack then capture. Best results but like catching Pokemon it always may not work.
(...lol I play too many RPGs :p )

Well I love the negative comments on my level, if they leave a reason. I don't like this level sucked, controls don't work and such unless they are more specific. I want to fix levels, and if it is something about the style, I do take note of it, but it is my style, so I most likely won't change that, I was told I paint with a wide brush, still not sure what that means, but I think that was a style thing, so something I can't help.
So the point is give me negative marks I will message you to explain, most likely add a smile or lol so you know I am not hating. I love that I can message now. I sadly have found some people just say they clicked the wrong mark or never explain more like the controls one...in those cases I think they just never read directions.
I do like to leave others feedback, and just try to keep it bugs or issues I have like not being able to make a jump at all...and I have not had any hate back...then again I usually avoid frowns, so that could be why.
I am a special person, I think. You just say: ''Ignore haters''. I would NEVER leave a hater go without putting him into his place. If I get hate mail I'll make it a psychological warfare. The thing in it is that I always win. I have done it many, many times. I can't miss a change to annoy a troll. I just love how they ALWAYS react like: ''You noob ******* 7 years old peace of crrrraaaapppzz!!!1'' Because I know how to response that. However if you haven't been in high-school philosophy classes I strongly err... unrecommend this option. However if you thing you can do it, try it. You might even like it (lol).
