    Clearer Photos?
So, umm, I'm doing a little photoshopping with ingame pictures uploaded to LBP.me (fun little promotional poster)... however the picture quality of my LBP2 photos is pretty blurry on LBP.me and that kinda makes it harder to edit around...

Anyone know any tricks to get some clearer photos on LBP2? Thanks in advance.

They look pretty good IMO, are you sure you're using the full image.

are you taking full screen photos or using the re-size option. The best thing to do is hit start and take a full screen photo, and save them to USB... because this keeps it away from the LBP compression as much as possible. Also getting super geeky and not really necessary whit HD TVs.. but is photoshop set to square or rectangular pixels?

All photos come out at 640x360 resolution, so this only makes sense if you want to capture the entire screen - if not, you may as well apply the full resolution to just the area you want to capture.

Just checked this. Looks like the JPEG exported with the "Export To HDD" option is identical to what's uploaded with the "Upload" option.

To retrieve a pixel-identical version of what was uploaded, use a URL of the form...

    http://i0.lbp.me/img/6753c93d59ce3986bcbd51fe456c1dd43b8c31a3.png

    ...or...

    http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/6753c93d59ce3986bcbd51fe456c1dd43b8c31a3.png

All other URL paths will return a version which has been rescaled and/or recompressed. See also this post.

Hmm, just tried out JPG vs PNG for my example, only difference is a slight change in brightness. It even seemed as if the JPG edges looked cleaner. Your example in the link though seems quite different.

LBP.ME defaults to opening in JPG, so @OP, you should try editting the URL with a .png instead, like what Aya suggested.

I really don't see a difference between the .jpg and the .png when I open it up in my PSP9. This for for the LBP pictures. I always save my finished works as .png
Here is what I do to get clear photos. First, it really helps to take a good picture. When I make my icons or banners, I try to get the best shot of my face that I can. Then I upload to LBP.me and use the fullsized photo. I open that into PSP and sharpen twice. You can sharpen as many times as you like, but I prefer to use it twice on all my photos (even my photos from my IRL camera).

Here are some examples of before and after shots. They will be big because I want to use the fullsize to show you. The originals will link to LBP.me.

It might not look that great, but when making icons and banners, it really makes all the difference.

Jaybee's LBP pictures always come out really nice. She made my avatar, my profile pic, as well as her own avatar, pic, and signature. LBP is capable of taking really nice pictures, especially when they are sharpened up. Once they are sharpened, they don't look much different then what it looks like on your TV, before you take the pic. Just make sure you are working with the full image (make sure you cant click it anymore on lbp.me).

    Oh, really? ;)

Although, to be fair, it's generally only televisions that have non-square pixels.

The problem with sharpening is you're not just sharpening the stuff in the pic that you like, but you're also sharpening the nasty compression artifacts. Imo, your pre-sharpened pics look better than the sharpened ones. If you really want to sharpen a pic without getting the artifacts, it's doable but it's a more laborious process.

The sharpened images had really well defined lines, some could argue that the unsharpened pic is better, but to me that crisp edge is perfect. I think the sharpen tool works well on LBP pics because it sharpening a computer generated object , as opposed to a picture of something in nature. I would think the sharpener would better be able to find the correct patterns of pixels in the computer generated object as opposed to something not geerated by computer. Basically, they work well together. Buy fact of the matter is, the pics ALWAYS come out blurrier than how they look during actual gameplay. I wish this weren't so.

It's mostly for when I make icons and graphics, smaller things, not huge like that.

Sehven, since you seem to know what you're talking about, why not share your ideas? Since this is a post in the help thread, I'm sure both me and the OP are willing to do extra work on our pictures. Don't just say mine look crappy, share yours!

Sharp images =/= practically removing anti-aliasing and introducing loads of new artifacts. :P

1 pass with a blanket sharpening filter should be enough combined with some selective warp sharpening to reduce noise and get rid of the halo effect around edges.
