Stop treating lbp seriously?

I thought this would be a interesting topic since I realized something.
In LBP1 no one has ever taken the game seriously,people had fun and just moved on,making levels and such.

Then LBP2 arrived,months later everyone gets so serious,over a game that's supposed to be made for fun.
For example,a creator who got MM picked and maybe a crown decided to leave LBP because he wasn't getting enough.

that is seriously the most stupidest reason I have ever heard.
Also people who say "I want a crown" or "MM pick my level" is annoying and they treat it so seriously.

I realized this over the summer,when I was playing lbp,working on a level thinking"gotta get this finish,I gotta" .
I realized that there really is no deadline and I can take all the time in the world.

so people,treat lbp as a hobby instead of a job and it's A GAME,so relax.

I completely agree with you. No ones paying us to create or play.

Ahh.... For all I know you should take a year to make a level... Not rush it and finish it in 2 weeks, even if it doe get an MM Pick.. You just gotta go with the flow. :)

Yep, I would.

I completely agree. I now feel like the MM Picks system has made people try way too hard to gain attention. Yes, it gives some people recognition, but I feel like in the long run it's only making the community worse.

agree to a point. I hate to argue semantics, but don't say "everyone" is taking it seriously. I'm not. Therefore it's not everyone who is taking it seriously but some.

One of the most comprehensive and user friendly editors wrapped into social network of everyone using it is hardly a videogame... and the fact that we all come here and many other sites, to talk about that videogame and talk to others playing it, kinda shows that a quite few of us are very involved. Mm picks are one of the motivations that spawn great levels, it would just be nice if they were given more often and to different people. Pins are an interesting motivation too, because they're more specific and sometimes even rarer or maybe people just want recognition for weeks and months of work usually required to make a really great level. Motivation aside, some people just want to make things they never could before and get their ideas out. It's very easy for some to do that in LBP. In most cases it would take quite a bit of experience with more complex and expensive software and much more time to make even a simple game. To get 1,000, maybe 10,000, maybe 100,000+ people to see your work would be near impossible.

It sucks that Mm neglect their own game and most of the community is filth but a few of us that take the game seriously try to find the best games made and/or just really cool people while trying to avoid and/or suppress the filth.

Here is a list of people that usually don't take the game seriously at all.
- Trolls. Trolls like to irritate people because they think it's funny to make people angry or sad. They are not just in LBP but other social network type sites. If all they care about is making people mad then why would they take the game seriously?... They love to harass people who do specifically.
- Spammers. Spammers clearly have no respect for politely asking for a play and may just be people desperate for attention. If it's someone literally spamming the exact same stupid phrase on tons of profiles see: Trolls
- H4Hers- Several H4Hers don't even have levels... or don't seem to care about getting attention on their levels.. So they are misinterpreting hearts use and probably just want attention too. They don't care about playing levels or making them... they just want hearts..
- Free DLC level publisher guys. Ya know, those levels that don't do anything but fill your objects with stupid stuff that make cool pages almost completely useless.
- Noobs. A noob, newbie, beginner, someone who is not very experienced with LBP and doesn't understand how to play. It's not that they don't take the game seriously.. it's that they just simply don't play it often or are young and naive.

...I guess it is a bit obvious that I take the game way too seriously and it's stupid I know but usually the ones who ruin the game are the ones that don't. :(

This message is really pointed towards those who take the CREATE mode seriously,but you put up a point about the community.
MY view about being serious with the community:DON'T CARE.
I mean friends is okay.seriously, it's fine to treat your friends to some degree of seriousness.
BUT,MM picks is a goal to go after,but it'll just drive you MAD!
For example,your playing UNO with 5 friends.You have the cheater,the annoying guy,the newbie who is learning,the pro,and the person who takes it seriously.
The cheater is bad,but sometimes,he'll just make us chuckle a bit at a really bad attempt at cheating.
The annoying guy is annoying,but whatever we don't care about him.
The n00b is just trying something new and having fun.
The pro can chose to help the newb,criticise,or just be really good at playing.
Then their is the guy who takes it seriously.gets angry when a mistake happens,frustrated when he doesn't win and just kills the mood of fun.

I still have fun making levels I would stop if I didn't, But I know some take things way to seriously the community have change most only make levels for contests now

as for social network ^^; I've always been some what anti social so never been good at selling my own levels I've just been lucky Mm saw my levels

I can see where you're coming from, but in fairness I prefer the people who take it seriously to the 'OMG teh RaNDom crowd' (if you see what I mean).

Mm Picks are designed solely to combat the issue that many reviewers made about the original LBP: that they couldn't find good levels. Mm Picks were a way to shove levels of a consistent decent quality into the faces of the reviewers and noobs who couldn't be bothered to search for decent levels. But in appeasing the reviewers and noobs, Mm Picks have made it less likely for unknown players to be found.

DISCLAIMER: I realise I'm focusing entirely on the negatives of Picks here and it's all entirely my opinion of course.

I agree with what you were saying about the imaginary deadline...this got hold of me too.
I haven't Really encountered people like you've mentioned (Trolls, Spammers Etc.)
But yeah, it gets alot funner when you try to have fun, rather than find faults that someone has done.
For Example. The story Versus level basketball is quite possibly the funnest 4player versus invented...(I speak from experience.)

On the other hand, contests help some people (like me) stay focussed on the same level for long enough to actually publish it (unlike me).

It's only for fun, gosh.

I take create mode seriously, when I am working on a level I obviously do not want somebody to come in and freeze me. But when I play online, I try to be as funny and fun as possible; it makes me happier and makes the people that joined me stay. Or if I joined somebody else, they let me stay. Just my 2 cents. :p

:kz: I do relax, but only when I'm with friends. I'm only srs to "Randoms" I meet, cause I never know if they're going to Steal my Costume or Creations.

And about the "Imaginary Deadline," I'm Still working on my level, cause I can't seem to find any free time in my life.
(Homework, BF3, Studying, RL Friends, etc.)

It always amazes me that virtual nonsense like pins, crowns, and MM picks will motivate people and upset folks that don't have them. People are silly.

Some players also seem to expect way too much from what is free content that people create for fun. I'm tired of hearing about crap levels or the community being crap...that's just others playing how they want. Maybe that "crap" level was made by some kid and they are proud of it. As for all the rest, spammers/trolls...sadly that's what you get with any community...it's easily ignored.

MM picks aren't a problem...it's not like I'd spend time looking a cool levels or playing random levels if it wasn't there...I'd create instead. I have a level with over 57,000 unique plays now...while that number boggles my mind it also means nothing to me and has changed nothing in-game or in my life.

What's wrong with contests now? It provides a theme and a deadline...things some people need and appreciate to motivate them. It's also fun to compete; competition is good.

LBP is a game...and a silly one at that; I could never take it seriously...

I mean, I completely agree that the... bitterness over MM Picks, Cool Pages and whatnot is unessecary. I believe speaking up about a flawed system is perfectly fine, but attacking the individuals who do get MM Picked and the likes is just silly.

Also, I see nothing wrong with feeling a little disheartened when the community skims over levels that really warrant more attention. I mean, people invest alot of time, effort and brainpower into what they do, and sometimes, the results are a little unrewarding. So, again, I think treating the game with some degree of emotional investment is totally alright, and actually, a little bit expected.

I sort of agree with the OP in some points, but I definitely think that treating the game seriously is a positive thing. For those that wish to do so, anyways.

I take it seriously, in the sense that I put a lot of effort and work into my levels, so naturally I want them to do well. But other than that, I do know it's just a game meant for a bit of fun. I do not go hating on other people though. There's just no need. You don't know these people in real life.

These folk that beg for hearts and likes are the only ones who really get on my nerves though. I mean, what do they actually achieve other than the hearts and likes? There's no sense of accomplishments there.
