I don't really take LBP2 with seriousness.. If I suddenly realize that I have something important to do (such as a need to write an essay for school), it is the LBP which gets pushed aside first, before anything else. However, it is fairly equal with other hobbies of mine (such as DSLR photography).
I usually end up being serious with more-or-less random strangers that I play with. Some of them are really nice and mature (e.g one friend is of same age, doesn't incessantly capture everything and everywhere, and is actually willing to take time with his levels), but some on the other end of the extreme are only tolerable for casual, quick play. Let them into your moon, and havoc results (this is also why I do not let anyone to join if I want to actually get results). I sometimes end up ditching them on the pretext of suddenly getting an errand to do; which does feel kind of sad, when the real reason is that I'm starting to lose my temper on their bad behavior, which I have tried to correct by various ways :(

Depends on how serious we're talking about.
"I really have fun with this game, maybe I can find ways to improve this community" : Serious GOOD
"Come on people we've got to save LBP it's the best game ever and everybody is hell-bent on ruining it let's mob outside of MM studios to show our eternal love for their work so they continue making LBP's forever!" : Serious BAD.
Also on the list of people who should need to chill the sack out: drama queens talking about how bad LBP2 got but never stop playing, people leaving the game because some random person insulted their mother, and people who think they're the least fairly treated person in the community just because one or two trolls rated their level down.

Mm picks, crowns, pins, hearts, cool pages and contests all inspire people to be competitive thus serious.

Of course people are going to take LBP seriously. For many of us it's more than just a casual pastime.
It's a passion...a lifestyle...an intoxicating drug...an outlet for fires that burn deep within the soul.
Serious business! ;)
