LBPC Contest #6 - A Quest For Glory (deadline extended to January 31st)
Hullo, it's me and my awesome cat! and we bring you.... LBPC6
Do you think you have a bit of spare time during your holidays for a new contest?
Ok, ok, we'll try to be gentle and make it easy this time, because well...Christmas time approaches and we feel particularly generous :)

First of all we want to thank fumetsusozo, IronSkullKid99 and Shadowstarkirby for providing us with the mindblowing sackboys we used in the poster.
It's a both a great pleasure and an honour for us to be able to use the work of some of the most amazing costume creators in Central.
Don't forget to check out their outstanding work!
Again, thanks sooo much on the behalf of the Contest Crew!!!
Are you ready to amaze us with a big epic saga to prove that you're really worthy of a Crown?
For LBPC Contest 6 we want you to get into the holiday mood, gather the sackfolk around the fireplace and tell us the most wonderful story your mind can conjure up.
We want a really EPIC tale, based on the concept of a QUEST and spanning 4 levels (yes, that’s right 4 levels!). We’re looking for a proper story – something more sophisticated and less clichéd than the all too familiar “rescue the prince/princess/cat” storyline!
The story must not be set in the real world, but instead in a place dreamt up by your imagination.
Here are some suggestions for possible settings:
-Dystopia
-Alternate History
-Cyberpunk
-Science Fiction
-Fantasy
-Steampunk
-Mythology
Then, we have figured out that every cool story has some OMG!WOW! moments, so we want you to include at least 2 of the following scenes/events:
- Riding an unusual beast or machine - This could be an animal or a strange human or alien machine/device or even stranger still, a kind of animal-machine hybrid.
- A chase scene - Basically an epic Run Forrest, Run! scene, because sackfolk always get into trouble.
- A big battle - This could be a battle that the players are involved in, escape from or witness from the sidelines.
- A collapsing environment - We love big explosions, crumbling cities and stuff like that, we like it a lot.
- A big interactive astrolabe - After all, the tale wouldn't be a quest if it didn't involve journeying to an unknown destination or solving some kind of mystery or puzzle.
We also like interactive dynamic stories. We want to feel part of the action, knowing we can't drop our controller but must hold on tight to it. So every one of the 4 levels must be interactive in some way, that means no movie levels or levels which consist almost entirely of long cutscenes.
The 4 levels MUST be published as standalone levels and not as sub-levels.
That may sound particularly picky, but we want to be able to leave the story at a certain point, leave a bookmark and get back to it later without having to start reading again from page 1, just like we can with good old books.
You may lock the levels with keys though, to ensure they have to be unlocked and played in the proper order.
And...that's it! Do you think it's too hard for only one person?
OK, OK, quick, gather some friends and put together a team of four and start to build something mind-blowing, then!
We told you we would be generous this time, so...co-creation contest and a prize multiplied 4x.
4 Crowns, 4 Pins, but we expect 4xAwesomeness.
Building requirements
• Create a 4 level epic saga. The story must have an original plot set in an imaginary world.
• The story has to centre on a QUEST.
• The saga must contain at least 2 of the listed set pieces/events.
• Every level must be interactive in some way.
• The levels must NOT be published as sublevels and must be accessible as stand-alone levels.
How to enter
• Build 4 levels before the deadline that fit the contest description and building requirements.
• Include the text “(LBPC6)” in the title of each level. Don’t forget to add things like a nice looking badge, some tags, and a concise level description.
• Include in the level description the names of all of the other creators in your team.
• Publish your levels before 11:59PM GMT on 31st January, 2012.
• Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss them!
• After the deadline, the judges will bravely set off on a quest themselves to select up to ten semi-finalists based on the scoring criteria below. The creators of the best level series will be pinned/crowned winners!
• The Sackinima team will feature HD recordings of the top three level series on their youtube channel for the whole world to see!
Judging criteria
Levels will be judged according to the following criteria:
• Gameplay – Here, we’re scoring things like fun factor, balanced difficulty and freedom from glitches and bugs.
• Originality – How innovative is your creation? How well did you take the source material to create something unique yet still have it be recognizable?
• Visuals – This is all about how good your level looks. We like detail and lighting and special effects, but try to avoid graphics-induced lag!
• Audio – Sound effects and music are a great way to turn your level into an addictive and immersive experience.
Rules and Regulations
• This contest is open to all ages and all regions. That means anyone can participate!
• All entries must be playable in LittleBigPlanet 2
• You can only enter one level series. Duplicate entries will result in disqualification.
• The contest officially begins on 15th November, 2011 at 12:00am GMT. Previously published entries will not be accepted.
• This is a co-create contest so you must co-create with three other people. You can have one of the team publish all the levels on a single moon or each creator can publish one of the levels on his/her moon. It's up to you.
•The first level of the four must be published unlocked (the succeeding levels may be locked to ensure they are played in the correct order).
• Levels must be published before the deadline with “(LBPC6)” in their title. After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, or major game-breaking fixes, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.
• Levels must be your own creation. Feel free to take inspiration from the world around you and from other levels, but don’t copy someone else’s work outright! That’s just not cool….
• Last but not least, have fun, play fair and respect other creators!
