if you want it to still be movable the best bet would be to use sticker panel and sticker it to look like the material you want (take a snapshot of original material to get the sticker)
however this will b able to move through all objects so not sure if it will suit your needs

What Im doing is first I got an sticker ak47 then I put it on cardboard and turned it into a sackboy gun

you can ghost materials and then be able to select them and use them, but not capture them.
Just place a not gate and wire it to itself, then wire it to a destroyer set to "break" effect. Then you just wait, it will blink and lag a lot. Pause mode, remove the logic, copy-paste the object. The original will disappear by itself, the copy will stay there and be walkthrough-able. Note that materials don't pass through them, only sackboys and sackbots do.
