Ladies and Gentlemen PLCC4 is upon us: http://www.littlebigplanetarium.com/...contest-plcc4/
It's time to rev up your create skills as a new Planetarium Creation Contest has arrived! The PLCC4 contest focuses on in-level cooperation and the use of a pre-made key.
The Planetarium Creation Contest consists of three parts. They are:
- Creating a level requiring active multiplayer cooperation to achieve a common goal
- Using the pre-made key object
- Documenting your idea generation and creation process
These three parts will all work collectively toward determining the contest winner. Each of these parts will be broken down to provide you with a better understanding of what is expected of you:
Creating a level requiring active multiplayer cooperation to achieve a common goal
One of the greatest aspects of LittleBigPlanet is the ability to play collectively with several other players. The interaction between the players as they all work together to solve challenges and complete objectives has fostered many close bonds between community members. In the spirit of teamwork, it is desired that a level is created such that all players in the level will be working collaboratively to complete the stage. Levels will be judged on the uniqueness and the amount of cooperation required to complete the level. Each level will require 2 players (at minimum) to complete, and must be playable with four players. The goal of the level cannot be to destroy one another.
For this contest, level links will not be permitted. The entirety of the stage must be contained in one level.
Using the pre-made key object
You are required to use the pre-made key object which has been created by the Planetarium staff and is available in this level:
http://lbp.me/v/cge90n
It is recommended that the key object be used to advance the stage objectives and complete the level.
You may:
- Sticker and decorate the object to alter its appearance without altering its shape
- Use the object multiple times throughout the level
- Use the object in unique and creative ways
- Tweak the object's material properties to fit the stage requirements
You may not...
- Decorate the object such that it is not recognizeable as a key
- Place the object in the level such that it does not fit in with the rest of the stage
- Change the key shape by using the corner editor
We encourage you to be creative with the key and utilize it in an engaging way in the level. Keys symbolize many things, and we hope to see it used in an original, meaningful manner.
Documenting your creation process
One of the visions we had when we create the LittleBigPlanetarium was the focus on the idea generation, creation process, creation documentation, testing, and the overall publishing process that a creator undergoes to produce a good level. We encourage sharing of these tips and tricks with each other because it fosters understanding and helps others improve in their creating ability as they develop and construct their levels. Thus, part of the contest requirements is that a detailed account of your creation process is presented to the community. Each person brainstorms and builds in their unique way, and we would like this process to be available to everyone to learn and grow in their talents as creators.
Communication is a critical factor in this requirement, but there is creative freedom in determining how the creation process is documented. Reasonable documentation providing insights into the challenges encountered and the time-saving techniques of the creators must be provided. However, how you choose to document this is up to you. Many members have used the on-site blog feature to document their level progress, and you are more than welcome to do the same. Also, you may use any other method of documentation. For example, you can document your process by:
- Blogging daily about what you did or encountered that day
- Blogging after significant milestones are passed in your creation process or when significant problems are encountered
- Record video of you explaining your creating techniques, ideas, and goals at regular intervals
- Develop a detailed outline of the creation process including creation methodology, idea generation, and problem-solving tactics
- Publish a level showing the creation process, explaining how the level was developed, and how certain level features were created
- Record audio of you talking through your ideas and creating tips and tricks
- Keep your friends updated on the progress you are making (note that you must provide chat logs or other documentation of this)
- Or anything else that follows in the same vein
This information needs to be made available to other contestants and members at some point so that others can learn from what you know as a creator. Part of the goal of the contest is to assist in providing members with material on level creation and to improve the community understanding of different creation processes. Great care should be taken when implementing this portion of the contest requirements.
Competitors are urged to positively interact with each other during the competition. Contestants are encouraged to read, listen, and watch other competitors' documentation to see what tips others may have for creating. In the past, the contestants that produced the best levels were ones that documented their work and received feedback from others during their creation process. We would like to see contestants constructively engaging with each other so that all entries are as good as they can possibly be.
Contest Deadline
The PLCC4 contest will officially end at
Your level and documentation must be published and linked within this thread prior to the above stated time. This time zone may not be the same as yours so make sure to check what time this is in your time zone so that you can get the level in on time. Late entries will not be accepted, except for some unforeseen circumstances. Minor editing is allowed beyond the deadline. However, what the judges see when they play your level will be what they make their decision on. Judges will not replay levels on request.
Submitting your level
Levels are submitted to this competition by providing two links within this thread:
- An lbp.me link to the finished level that will be entered into the competition (or, if your lbp.me profile is hidden, an explanation of how to locate the completed level)
- A link to the documentation of the level creation process. Note that you may want to provide a link to your documentation before the level is complete so that other members can learn from your struggles and successes.
Once the site administrators have received the link to your level and to your creation process documentation, your name and level will be added to the list below. If your level and documentation links do not appear here, chances are that the administrators have not received your links yet. Please kindly re-submit them as soon as possible so that the administrators do not overlook your entry. Note that it is up to you to make sure that your level is added to the list of entrants.
Good luck to all entrants! We look forward to following your progress and seeing your great ideas for this competition!
