9 of Hearts, close enough.
You eliminated spades and diamonds by referencing them, and the next one everyone's going to think of is hearts (perhaps the most popular symbol) the only problem is that it could be any number, perhaps it'd have worked better for me if somehow you made a remark about high numbers and therefore I'd decide to choose a lower number. Maybe I just think wrong, who knows? Almost got it right though.

Well it did work for me except that I was thinking 5 of diamonds instead of hearts :) .

I have a trick
Think of a number
Add it by 4
then add it by 5
then add it by 10
add it by 3
then subtract it by 2
Now, subtract the the number you're thinking of by the original number you were thinking of
x+4+5+10+3-2-x = x+20-x = 20.Quote:

And the original trick works far better in conversation with hand gestures, making your fingers splayed out to make a five - really reinforcing the 'star' in start.
It works by:
Nothing obvious, like the ace of spades or jack of diamonds; nothing like that. (eliminates clubs, diamonds and most royal cards - especially aces)
A regular card, but still an odd and slightly unusal card. (Tries to get you to think of an odd number but still a low card, works really well in conversation)
Feel the card deep inside of you and make it really vivid in your mind; see the number of symbols on the front visually. (feel = heart; and makes certain the card is red [black cannot be 'vivid'] - number of symbols eliminates all royals and aces)
Start to turn it over and over in your head as if it were real (star = generally five pointed - hand actions really come into play here)
If you decided the card and then read the text without changing your mind it will not work :P

That one is fairly basic, I've seen more complicated ones. Most often, at some point they will ask you to multiply your number by 9, then add the digits in that number together - you'll then get the number 9.Quote:
