Teleportation

If you could teleport anywhere in the universe instantly, where would you teleport and why?

I'd personally like to go to that "other earth" that was a discovered a while back with a girl and populate it with my offspring ;) lol. It would be cool to be the first to populate an earth-like planet and I would be the mysterious "common ancestor" that everyone is looking for years into the future.

And feel free to be smarty-pants (?) and discuss the scientific impossibility/possibility of teleportation. Please.

anyway, you wouldn't go anywhere as the act of breaking you down for transportation would physically kill you... the 'you' at the other side would be identical to 'you' to the point where there would seem to be no differnce... but it still wouldn't be you... it would just think it was. The best way I could explain it would be referencing the movie 'the fly'. So Geoff, read Seth, jumps in the telepod and comes out (albeit kinda merged with a fly genetically) but he thinks he is the original and initially looks and acts exactly the same as the original; and it is only later he realises that he is not Geoff but actually 'brundle-fly'. I know its not exactly the same situation but the copy Geoff (before the increased mutation) and the real Geoff seem the same... but they just are not... to all intents and purposes teleportation is just human photocopying with the added bonus of destroying the original... now i think about it... that last metaphor was better... forget the fly stuff, I'll just leave it in incase anybody actually understands my ramblings.

Although saying that, you didn't specify the type of teleportation... the definition being instantaneous transport... so if a portal style method was availible where the traveller wasn't broken down into molecules, it might work... but that requires a whole different kind of SCIENCEY physics.

Basically, never trust Star Trek / Doctor Who / Fly teleports etc

Also, one of the people above me, since I can't remember your name, teleportation wouldn't kill you, unless it built you from different atoms than the original you. If you broke yourself down for transportation and shot yourself with a cannon of some sort to the location you want to go and then materialized yourself from the same particles you would still be you, instead of a clone or anything.

FreeAim is right. Provided there's no difference in your atomic structure, you shouldn't be dead. Also, why should it necessarily clone you? Isn't the whole point of a teleport that you get transported from one place to another? Just send all the atoms to another place, reassemble them, and you should be somewhere else, but still the same person.

I'd like to see a black hole close up, near the event horizon, as it eats a star or something... and I'd like to see what the sky would be like for a new planet in a nebula and whether the nebula would be diffuse enough for the sky to look as it does from Earth.

I'd go to the end of the universe and try sticking my hand outside the edge as well.

Well, black holes are basically impossible to see. I do not know about viewing them from inside a space craft at a certain difference, but blackholes being black absorb radiation- so light being absorbed as well having a strong enough gravity to "Suck" everything in a in Vacuum.. In a vacuum including light, which as we should all know basically consists of no matter. But i think a nebula forming (Obviously after 100 million years) where it will be at its most "Beautiful" stage.
Just a little bit of Physics- I would make a smart rant that will probably fill a whole page worth of comments on how Teleportation, time travel and breaking speed of light (Which can be used for Time travel and teleportation) Is "Virtually" impossible

The black hole itself would be impossible to see but you could still watch things get absorbed by it, fade to black on the grandest scale!

As for where I would teleport, I don't really know.
Kepler 22B would be pretty cool to see, gravity could be an issue though :/
The moon would be fun if I could take other people with me as well, ditto for Mars.
I've always wanted to visit Okinawa, but I could do that without teleportation.

I personally would go to any planet with the Isotope ore Hydrogen-3 Like our Moon does. However if we mine the moon out, well exactly that we mine the moon out. Now I think the moon was created from our planet when a chunk of Mars, hit us, or the Moon is that chunk of Mars. If so then Mars could also have this Isotope ore, Hydrogen-3. What makes this ore so special is that (Cant remember the exact measurment but wasnt big at all) Could sustain America's Energy needs for a whole year. Really if we could event a terraformer that could create a breathable atmosphere around Mars and a suitable temperture, we could live there, and use teleporters to get to mars. So yeah... This is the sort of things I think about in my free time :L

P.S For those who dont know, an Isotope is basically an Atom with "Added" neutrons, although it easy to just Add Neutrons :P

Basically, like really basic, we could say Atoms are made up of 3 Particles, These being Protons (Having a +1 Charge and mass), Electrons (Having a -1 Charge) and neutrons (Having a Neutral charge, but has mass) The nucleus of the Atom contains Neutrons and Protons, and then Electrons orbit round the Nucleus. Atoms are neutral charge, because the Electrons cancel out the charge of the protons. And the neutrons? They just add mass really. To work out the Amount of Neutrons there are in one Atom its an easy sum, Lets take helium for example, it is the second element after Hydrogen, so thats it's atomic number, and the atomic number is the amount of Electrons, and it is the amount of Protons (Unless we talk about Ions :L) so we also have a Mass number, which is the sum of all the particles tat have mass, those being protons and neutrons, Helium has a mass number of 4 (It is conviently double the Atomic number) Now the sum is the Mass number - the Atomic number, thus meaning helium normally has 2 Neutrons. But an isotope is when the Element doesnt have as many Neutrons that it normally should, giving it different properties.

Science is cool :D Without it I think A lot of things would be different for the worse- very little good could come of it. Except from testing on animals (Vivisection) and the Nuclear bomb and weaponry testing- and in the second world the actual use of them! But without alot of these things we wouldnt have the knowledge we have today- I mean we wouldnt even have penicillin! And the hope that we may one day colonise somewhere in space- even it was the moon (Hoping for mars However :p )

A terraformer would have to be a space station anyway :P I have thought about this- quite an elaborate- but basic plan. The space station will be so big it will act as a moon- it will control everything necessary for life to flourish (Even if it doesnt belong to the Homo Family)
And also... We either move to mars- or the whole human race on earth will be "Baking" in radiation thanks to global thermnuclear war ( A bit like fallout with out the 50s/futuristic contrast)
