LBPC Contest #10 - A Stitch in Time

I don't think there would be a problem if your time machine looked a little bit like the Tardis, i.e. if it was box shaped for example. Just avoid making it a blue panelled police box and I'm sure the resemblance won't be too strong. All we want is for people to come up with original ideas and not copy time machines from films or books too closely. It sounds as if any similarity in this case is accidental and I'm sure you can keep it to a minimum. :)

Contests are about so much more than trying to win DLC... in fact, that is a very small part of it... for many it's a chance to improve upon themselves and have fun in the process...

also, we give away a stylish pin too.

The crown prize will be handed to the 2nd place if the winner already own the crown. I have the crown and I'm entering anyway, it's not all about winning. I really have fun creating my level, of course it can get frustrating but in the end it's all about having fun! :D

I published my level for beta testing and backup, I need to delete my level and publish it again at monday?

Is it okay to publish it as a sub level (invisible to players) before the deadline? That's how I share the level with my friend (she comes on my account and downloads it so she can work on it if I'm sleeping or something, and I do the same)

See, now this is why someone who has never published a thing in her life should not try and answer technical questions like that! I think I meant to say you need to delete and publish again but if I were you I'd wait for someone competent to come along and give the final verdict on that :p

@Kalawishis - We start to play levels after the publishing window has closed. This is because you can tweak your levels during the publishing window if bugs get reported etc. and we want to make sure we play the final version. The only exception to that is if Bio and I need to play levels earlier for spotlighting reasons but I don't think that will be the case this time round. :)

Just make sure you have an UNLOCKED level on your earth sometime during and after the publishing window... it doesn't matter how you choose to do that....

Lol, well none of us bites...I think...and whoever you choose would probably post the question in the Crew forum for the rest of us to consider so it really doesn't matter who you pick :)

One week to the deadline and yet so much things to do...

For those who have never been in a contest, here is how things go:
- day one: OMG I'm so excited, I have so much ideas my level is gonna blow your minds!
- week one: there's so much things to do! Why aren't the tools better? I don't know where to start...
- week two: scrap that idea, everybody's going to do the same thing. I had a better idea but I must restart from scratch.
- week three: I shouldn't have used so much thermo just for level design. Now my bots and my logic will totally suck. Let's erase a part of the level.
- week four: Why? why???? oooh why??? *cries*
- one week before the end: I already cut a lot in my level, if I can manage my time correctly, i'll still can put a few things in it.
- two days before the end: ok, I should totally quit now, nobody will notice anyway.
- two hours before the end: THAT WORKED EARLIER! WHY DOESN'T IT WORK ANYMORE?
- deadline: this is gonna be a ok-average level.
- two hours after: Ok, I republished because I forgot the key cinematic at the beginning. Also, I should have put that, that and that.
- the day after: what are the mods doing? We should have our results by now!
- two weeks after: this was the most horrible month of my life. I'm never entering a contest again.
- one month after: cool, a new contest!

Just one last question:
I it really that important how long a level is or would a lets say 1/2 - 1 Minute Level be able to win too?
Mine is pretty complex and nice to look at but it wont be that long.

Magic Technologies is adept in many things. It is agreed, however, that the thing they are most adept in is ticking you off.

This level is like Short Skills Challenge with a temporal twist. Pretty much, everything you do is sent into the future and a sackbot mimics it. It's hard to explain, so just try it, mmkay? Oh, P.S., this level is also stupidly hard. Like, throw-your-expensive-Vita-across-the-room-and-cry-in-the-corner-hard. So there's that.

So... we only have until this Sunday?! Oh noes.

At the very least, I've got two cutscenes and a whole gameplay section left to build. Maybe I've been focusing too much on detail. So far I have a guy travelling a century ahead to find that Helium-3 mining on the moon is destroying the world.

And I really need slice n' dice to not freeze all the time. I'm building without it at the moment (thanks to the latest update), and it's slowing me down, a lot.

Well that's really too late for me with this contest ! My shoot 'em up will never be ready at time :p

But never mind... I'm now waiting impatiently for the next one !

Can te level be too scary? I mean, is it bad, when the level is very scary?

Keep in mind that LBP is meant for players as young as age 7. This doesn't mean that your level should cater to young kids, but the scariness should not be inappropriate for that age group.
Suspenseful is okay, just try to avoid "horror" genre ;)

Well, if it's too scary, I can make a second version, that isn't that scary... But I hope
it doesn't make negative effects to the contest crew's choose... I'll make a little levelhub before the
level, where you can choos between "very scary" and a little bit "scary" but I haven't got
enought time, so I have to take part with the very scary version... You could try the Beta of the very
scary version and tell me, if it's too scary, if you wandt... There's only some music and story missing,
but all the scary-effects are done...

THE PERFECT TIME

This is my entry to this competition, I enjoyed creating this level, came across a few bugs but fixed them and the level is ready for everyone to enjoy. Please read the description to understand the story better. Also the level overheated so I had to bring things to an end earlier than I wanted too.

As stated in the OP, no level links are allowed. I suggest you only publish one version of your level, and use the remaining time (until April 7th) to make any changes you feel are needed. Ultimately, the most important thing is the you feel satisfied with your own level.

I just finished the final parts to my level, and it is now published and ready for judging! I spent at least 10 hours on it, creating a realistic atmosphere and an original story, and I think it payed off. For those of you who remember me, I almost didn't partake in this contest because I thought the competition would be too hard on me; look at me now!
