About LBPC's recent downtime

As you are all aware, LBPCentral was down for the past 4-ish days. Before going any further, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that this service interruption caused. There are a lot of things going on in and around the community that depend on LBPCentral; you have my gratitude for being patient while we worked through the issue.

I have received a lot of questions related to the site downtime which I will do my best to answer here:

• What happened? - There was a configuration issue at the domain registry that resulted in the site being unavailable.
• That sounds complicated. What actually happened? - The site is run by squirrels in an underground bunker hidden in an undisclosed location. The squirrels went on strike.
• Why? - I bought them unsalted peanuts instead of salted, as stated in their contract.
• Were you hacked? - No, LBPCentral was not hacked.
• Is the contest/group/activity I was involved in cancelled? - No, all previously scheduled community activities are officially back on track. Apologies for any delay that the site downtime caused.
• Is this going to happen again? - While I'd like to say "No, never", I think that is an overly bold statement. What I will say is that it's extremely unlikely that the site will experience downtime again due to this exact issue.

Are we all going to receive free crowns for the downtime, I'm not talking about digital one's either, I want a real freaking crown and yes with all the perks and such like a castle with a moat :P

And that's because it's dangerous to negotiate with squirrels. 8)

Thanks for hanging in there, Tom. Especially considering you have real life responsibilities, as well. It was like a breath of fresh air, when the site appeared in my browser. It made me realize just how much I love this site, the Staff, those that dedicate their valuable time to make this place special, and the Community members that are special and support this site, either by funding or keeping the interaction lively.

This may seem random, but I remember when the site went down when I was admin. Now that I look back at that thread, I don't really remember that happening. I think something did happen, but LBPC just resolved itself somehow...I guess I forgot to address everyone about it too. :p

It may have been from that time I tried cramming a whole LBPC web page into my custom user title just to see what it would do - the whole ordeal made every thread inaccessible and nearly broke the whole website. I almost panicked because I couldn't edit my profile back to normal, because the edit page broke too! I eventually used some HTML tricks to remove the offending user title data on my browser client, wherein I could then edit my title back to normal. Twas a fun time.

Man, it was awesome being admin. But then again, it's probably best that Taffey is admin now...it keeps me from accidentally obliterating the whole website. :hero:

I could get on for about 2 minutes last night then the site completely disappeared again for another 12 hours until just now...hopefully it's working now :cry:

This reminds me of that time the city of Milwaukee just disappeared for 2 hours. Completely gone, all that showed from satellite photos was a river valley.... remember that Taffey?

Well yeah. But if our own Sheriff wasn't able to know the cause of our fair site's downtime, who would?

It was the web hosting company screwing something up or not paying attention. They don't seem to be the brightest at times. :/

I'm a web expert, you didn't use squirrels, something went wrong with vBulletin, Apache and the MySQL Database right?
