What games tugged on your heartstrings? [Spoilers]

I am sure that a lot of us gamers have experienced the 'feels' that some games give. Be it happy or sad, what games tugged on your heartstrings?

In terms of my own experiences my top game that tugged on my heartstrings was:

Spoiler - Katawa Shoujo.

Katawa Shoujo is a bishoujo-style visual novel set in the fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located somewhere in modern Japan. Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right. There are five main paths corresponding to the 5 main female characters, each path following the storyline pertaining to that character.

The story is told through the perspective of the main character, using a first person narrative. The game uses a traditional text and sprite-based visual novel model with an ADV text box.

Katawa Shoujo contains adult material. 18+ is advised with the option to turn off adult content.

Other games have done as well but not as much as Katawa. Others include:

- The Walking Dead game (Lee no!)
- Red dead redemption (John Marston no!)
- Final fantasy VII (I don't need to say why for this one.)

So what about you guys? Anyone want to say what games tugged on their heartstrings?

Ermmm.... I know you specify [spoilers] in the title, but some won't have played every game you've listed there. You should put the ones for The Walking Dead and RDR in tags, since they are massive spoilers.

The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption and on a smaller scale, Heavy Rain.

The Last of Us was really immersive, both story and gameplay-wise. I kept playing because I felt like I needed to complete the main quest no matter what. And every time I had to face zombies or enemies I would be like "aw shucks, I don't have enough ammo for this". :p

Playing Journey and tlou was nice. I usually don't get very emotional over video games though.

Hmm not sure what say. Lots of games (the ones I actually like, which is only a few series tbh) make me happy in general. Especially Sonic games...

But offhand one game that I experienced that made me feel a lot of abnormal emotion was Zelda:Twilight princess... Goodness I love Midna. and that ending depressed me for days. :T *mew

Best story in a video game that touched me (appropriately). I'd have to say "To the Moon" by Freebird Games (you can check them out here.).

By far the most touching story in a video game (hate to admit it, but even better than TLOU).

I could say the same thing, but the point is, emotions vary. I'm not saying it's the saddest story ever, that's not what I mean by "touching".

Yeah we all are effected differently. Like besides the fact I thought it was a pretty and well made game I didn't feel anything when I played the game Journey. Also when you know who died in that famous scene in FF7, Even back when the game first came out I didn't care because I didn't like her much. Still love the game tho. *mew

I have this game, Clay gifted it to me for our Secret Santa last year. Really touching, it's short but I actually thoroughly enjoyed my play-through.

It's quite amazing. I love the fact that it conveys so many different emotions : It's funny, sad, heartwarming and happy at the same time. Also, the way story details are revealed in that game is masterful.

One word: Bunnies

Off the top of my head:

-Metal Gear Solid 3: The ending after the truth about Operation Snake Eater is revealed. "In Memory of a Patriot Who Saved the World" *que tears.* No way am I spoiling it for anyone who hasn't played it.

-Mass Effect Franchise: The development of Female Commander Shepard and Garrus Vakarian's relationship if a romance is pursued. Although he isn't available as an option until the second game it's actually arguably for the better as it isn't one that isn't readily available following the character's introduction which makes it's inception feel all the more organic. Interspecies or not and initial awkwardness aside, this romance is the one that feels most like an adult relationship as it is based just as much on trust and respect as it is on attraction (whereas many of the other options just seems to be about the latter).

-Mega Man Zero 4: Few would argue that Mega Man Zero 4 is the best Mega Man game, and one could argue it is the worst in the Zero subset of games, but that aside I'd argue the ending is simultaneously one of, if not the most awesome sequence in the entire Mega Man franchise but also easily one of it's most bittersweet. The centuries long war between humans and robots is at last over, the monsters responsible are gone having been either long dead or put down at long last, and now humanity and reploids truly have a chance to, and will indeed succeed in coexisting peacefully but victory and peace come at a steep price...

-Alundra: Alundra is a game where anyone can die, by halfway through it seems almost routine but one death easily hits the hardest between the circumstances building up to it, the music and atmosphere and that individual's truly touching last testament. And many who played up to that point were absolutely determined to make those responsible pay for it.

Hmmm... touching games? Interesting question... Rather than touching, I would say these 3 games have got me the most involved with their respectives stories and awesome plot twists:

3.- Heavy Rain - Anyone who has actually played all of this game will have no doubt about it. It probably offers one of the best stories in videogames ever told, and the fact you can actually influence the outcomes is really, really cool. Not spoiling anything here, but discovering who the murderer was pretty much killed me from the surprise.

2.- Bioshock Infinite - Never in my whole life had I seen so many plot twists in the last 15 minutes of a game. The fact that the very 10 last seconds of the game pretty much modify the way you look at the whole story was very very dramatic. I loved it :arg:

1.- Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - Never has a game hooked me as much as this thing. Even though the gameplay was cool and brilliant, the story is the thing that shines in this thing. After all, itS some kind of gigantic novel-comic book thing. Those 40 minute-long "cinematics" were never boring, and every single end of the +25 different ends it features revealed another plot twist. Every time you thought you knew what on earth was going on, Virtue's Last Reward will surely tear that confidence down. Go play it. Now.

Majora's Mask and Journey are the only two games that gave me the massive feels, not any single moment in particular, but just playing through them.

Lots of other games have given me the regular feels though.

There is only one game that has really touched me in such a way... BioShock Infinite. My reasoning for this is because of the ending of the game, there were so many plot twists that when the game was over, it made you happy, sad, and angry, all at the same time. Which, I think that any game that can move somebody, even the littlest bit, is definitely a great game.

The only game that got me was walking dead of course :/ near the end of episode 2 (need to finish the series before season 2 :/)

Tales of Xillia gave me feels when Milla dies, making the whole party split up, and Alvin trying to kill Jude, but shooting Leia instead. Such a great game...

First time I played FF7 I was hella mad Aeris got whacked. I had been leveling her and she was my main healer. Thought for a good few more hours into the game that she would come back through the lifestream or something.

It's a bit like that with Faize in Star Ocean: The Last Hope.

Dragon Age: Origins- Though it entirely depends on the ending.
The Walking Dead
Infamous 2
Demon's Souls- Ostrava NOOOO!
Dark Souls- Solaire NOOOO! (though on the plus side you can at least save Solaire from his fate). Oh and Siegmeyer NOOOO!
