This is a great idea. :)
A handheld torch could be controlled in the same way as the Paintinator - a torch-sensitive switch would be neat to go along with it, so when you passed your torch over an object you could have something happen.

make ghosts dissapear :p
or.. just to scare other sackpersons..
*shines flashlight in own face* BOO!!!
Wow! That's a good list of ideas :)
How about having an upgradable paintanator! Where sackbuddies can get split-shot or laser-shot or scatter-shot etc. It could make for really cool boss battles with multiple weak points :p
I have the solution for all of your projectile needs.
Handheld emitters.
Looks kinda like a paintinator, but you can choose what kind of object you want to come out of your gun.
Another idea, paint buckets. Ammo for your paintinator. Can only be used once. Disappears after you would past it.
Springy boots anyone? You could bounce around and jump much higher. You could also set the strength and stuff.
Hover Boots: When you put these on, you can hover over short distances before falling (think Hover Boots in Zelda). Editing it can increase the amount of time you could stay afoot, and there could be a colored clock in the corner of the screen when in the air telling you how much more time you have.
That's like the Gravity boots, isn't it? I see what you mean but it's almost the same.
Hey Bionic Commando is comming out next month. So i thought that this could be the perfect opportunity to give away a bionic arm via a DLC package. It is basically the same as the Yo-Yo.
But i see the conflict of this though. If they would include a costume, then both, the costume and the new enchancement, would include the arm. That would be weird...
But i hope they will release something like that one day because it would add much to the game.
HAT WITH A TORCH
Just for cinematic purposes to illuminate very dark levels from your sackboy. You can tweak the torch brightness/radius from the pickup.
CLIMBING PICK
A little pick held in in each hand. If you grab a grabbable object, you can shimmy up, down and along it's faces. Lets you slowly climb up sheer faces and lets you crawl along the ceiling. Slows movement speed when climbing.
That's all I could come up with that hasn't been mentioned already.
Mighty gloves- Sackboy dons gloves with spikes.
With the edition of the dig switch, Sackboy and use these to dig through solid material. the dig switch can be placed on any material. You can dig through any material, but ONLY if it has this switch on it. Thus you can make large passageways underground from a object that has this switch but the surrounding walls do not.
Not different enough from a regular paintinator to merit extra development.
Here is your solution: Make a paint bucket object out of dissolve material and stickers. When you grab a paint bucket, it triggers a one-shot emitter to emit a single Paintinator.
Think of it from a developer's point of view. If it can be done already with existing tools, there's no reason to write a completely new tool which involves modelling, texturing, coding, and lots of QA testing.
Not much but how about
Flashlight. A simple way to keep the light around sackboy and allowing him to do other tasks at the same time. Using the right stick to aim. Something like this could really help making atmospheric levels.
I think the grappling hook is a must-have for LBP now... It would just add much to the gameplay, yet is so simple to make...
Maybe we will get it in the Ratchet and Clank pack. The slingshot has been a staple of that series since the beginning.
In the meantime, feel free to go vote for it http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9323
Code 18.
alot of ideas are great here are mine
Portal GUN
like in the game portal can lift small objects and teleport you places
Disguise Kit great for sneaking around levels with out enemies attacking you
The grappling hook gets my vote. I'd like the hook to have either a seperate target or a specific material it can hook into though, rather than be able to grapple onto anything. I guess they could make it so it only grapples on to any grabbable material.
The teleport gun would be a good one too. Initially, i thought LBP was going to be a platformer where you could actually interact, introduce and change objects as you were actually playing. Having played the game, it'd be actually pretty useless, you'd end up just building platforms over any challenge. Having a teleport gun that can move specific objects around, (but only objects already built into the level) is a pretty good way to introduce some of that kind of 'customisation as you play' vibe. It might upset the balance of the game too much though.
I would like the anti-gravity boots (and a Strider Hiryu costume)
What about a Sackboy "collar" that changes the appearance of sackboy: the editables would be height, allowing sackboy to fit in smaller gaps or bigger gaps depending, can only be took off via a anti enhancement thingummy, "Fatness" like the more food sackboy eats in a food level the fatter he gets and the lower he can jump, this would be useful for, the height idea could make levels alot longer than normal by shrinking sackboy down
really nice ideas. i would love to use those in my levels especially the boots.
I think a cool pick up would be the flashlight. Once picked up, the flash light could be aimed with the right stick, and you could turn it on and off with the R1 shoulder button. It could be used to help you find your way through darkness, or search for clues in dim lighting. I think this would be a good power-up, because it is simple and has a lot of potential. Please consider it! Exelcior!!
wait have you seen my post for a water based enhance ment like a snokle or rebreather to aid in breathing under water for exstened time or indefintly. i think that\ should be up there. just saying
1. A hand-held camera power up, which sackboy would hold in his hands. That allows you to have split-screen if played locally, or separate screens if played online.
2. A RC-Car power up. Your sackboy would hold the RC-Controller in his hands. You'd control it with the right stick.
Here's an idea I posted last week, a flashlight powerup: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15737
Add it if you're still doing that.
EDIT: Lemme know if you want a paragraph summing it up.
Some cool ideas here!
These are mine
Gravity powerup that changes how high sackboy can jump
A Growth powerup that makes sackboy bigger/smaller
A powerup similar to Metal Gear MkII in MGS4 that allows sackboy to control a small creature through areas sackboy couldnt access/hazardous areas (eg. the creature is used to cross a electrified bridge and hit a button that makes platforms appear for sackboy to cross)
I don't know if its been said before, but an invincibility powerup, run on spikes/into plasma/ jump on a explosive and nothing happens :)
as some one said earlier. WE NEED A MELEE POWER UP!
like the paint gun but you ether swing a sword or have boxing gloves.
imagine puting a hit switch to a object or enemy and set how many hits it takes. then take the power up and punch/slash them. We could finaly make zelda levels or brawler levels like streets of rage.
Didn't someone make an ingenius flashlight suggestion? You should definitely put that in here. But out of these, the plasma jacket seems the coolest and easiest to implement.
HERE ARE MY IDEAS...please add them to the main page if they are worthy of it:
1.Emitter Gloves - imagine the possibility of going into a level, with a giant boss to fight but the creator has made the brain protected and no paintanator life bar. you then see a pair of gloves as a power up. you equip the power up, your sackboy has his hands in like a kamehameha stance. and when you press R1 he shoots his hands out and comes a GIANT BOMB flying out to destroy the giant boss. so my idea is the emitter gloves where you would put the power up there, and just like the jetpack be able to tweak it in many ways. and since it is EMITTER gloves that means you could select whatever object you have in your popit at the moment to add to the emitter for that specific emitter glove and then make a different emitter glove with a different object. and of course you could color coat it to make easier to identify.
2.JETPACK SKINS - tired of the only means of flight being a jetpack? why is sackboy only get to experience a jetpack? why can't he have some nice ANGEL WINGS or something cool looking to make him fly....my idea of jetpack skins would be to replace your jetpack with WORKING wings or something else that could fly...so instead of having a metal jetpack in your back shooting exhaust why not have wings that flap realistically and no smoke clouds under it? wouldn't that be fun now? ;)
Flashlights and grappling hooks are all cool. but i can think of a few cool things too.
Proton Pack/laser shoots like the paintinator, but in a constant stream. the lenth and strenth of the laser can be tweaked as well as the ability to 'wave' away from the target similar to a proton stream. (ghostbuster pack should have had this :( )
Sticky Gloves allows sackboy to climb up vertical walls.
magic potion makes sackboy shrink/grow run faster/slower or even change the costume he's wearing. (because you don't play through a zombie apocolypse level wearing a spongebob costume. of course you cant leave the level wearing the costume you got from the potion if it has unbought DLC)
fire hose/emp/leaf blower can unlethalise objects (sorry if someone already said this)
This is more of an amusing costume, but who else wants their sackboy to be able to play a guitar? Moving your right arm up/down strums, and your left arm's left/right position controls the pitch. Perhaps it could even come in different varieties, like an acoustic one and an electric one or something.
sounds like the perfect opportunity for some ROCKBAND DLC
also on that note here is another idea of mine
SACKBOY CLONE
basically an AI sackboy that would follow you around and would react to switches and buttons that you would program to radiate a certain frequency that only that sackboy could respond to (frequency being a color in the switch and different colors affect the same colored switches) you would select the costume for the sackboy and it would deploy out of the costume booth (another idea of mine, we'll get to it soon ;) ) which would prove useful for some levels. especially using it as a CPU character on versus levels like racing levels, fighting, and co-op.
COSTUME BOOTH
basically it would be the booth that would spawn your first AI sackboy clone...but it has another purpose. imagine walking into a watchmen level that was made to look like a movie set...the level creator made a director who told you to dress up as rorshach and get on the set immediately...you walk into trailer made by the creator and there it is...a light up locker with a special GLOW to it. you walk into it...the booth door closes and the booth shakes up a bit...suddenly you walk out looking like rorshach and you head on to do the level. now imagine this concept with the ability to upload your own custom costume into the machine. and for those of you who don't own any of the DLC would still get the costume except without those parts showing up and such.
basically the machine could be edited like the PRIZE BUBBLE in which you select a costume from your pop-it to upload and such.
Or if you don't have the DLC, you could put on the costumes, but not be able to save it, and it would get taken off when you leave the level. A wind feature would also be cool. I would push sackboy and light objects around, and the speed could be modified.
A costume detector would be cool. Like a scanner that can tell if you have on a Ninja Mask for example.
but how would it differentiate a ninja costume from the millions of costumes people make?
i don't think there would a point to it since most people can just put a spotlight object and when it catches you make an alarm for not being a ninja
....but i did like the suggestion of not being able to save the costume with no DLC users
It would be cool if you could charge electrical equipment, with like a glove that shoots lightning. But after you charge it, the glove dissapears.
