DVLC1 - The Results!

Well then, here we are. After 30 days to plan, design, and test out their creations, five creators competed and submitted their sand-filled entries for the first of this series of level contests. Kasperi6, Dawnbreaker_23, Darkcloudrepeat, KomodoBrothers, and xxMATEOSxx, you all brought forth a completely different kind of experience that made judging a whole lot of fun. Also, creators like vezonfan01 and CogMonkey who were just shy of entering should not be ignored for their fabulous works either. (Can't wait to see them in completed form, you guys!)

But in the end, only one of the five can win the 1st place prize. So then, without further ado, the winner of "DVLC1: Sand in Your Boots" is...

KomodoBrothers, for (DVLC1) "Living in Ruins"!

Major congratulations to Komodo for his rocking level! This was a true treat to play, with a remarkable sense of design and atmosphere, containing some beautiful music by xTrillex and a wide array of sound effects that really matched the theme. There was also a lovely blend of materials, objects, and decorations, too. Gameplay was fun, with some good uses of running, jumping, and grabbing (with plenty of well placed bubbles to lengthen play-time) as well as the addition of other mechanics that stood out nicely like the sinking platforms and those neat sackbots which you have to grapple onto.

So then, as part of winning, this person will receive a $20.00 PSN code (U.S.), a creator interview which I'll try to get started on right away, and the top spot in a level hub for the contest, which will be published later this week. Other tidbits included in this package are bragging rights and the joy from having won. :)

Thanks to everyone who followed and supported this contest, as well as the five creators who entered in it (and to those who tried but couldn't make the deadline). Also a big shout out to peoriaspitfire for helping judge the entries with me, thanks a lot man! As I said earlier, these were all truly a joy to play, and I'd be happy to share my thoughts on each and every one of them with those of you who managed to enter. You all did a great job, and I hope it was fun entering even though only one could win. See you guys at the reveal of DVLC2! (Not sure when this will be though, so until then, enjoy LBPC12 and SFC1! (Plus any other contests that may come along.)

I have to say this was the most diverse collection of entries for a level contest that I thought I would ever see and they were all top notch. You are all winners in my book and I hope everyone had fun and learned something new as a creator.

First of all, I want to say that I regretfully couldn’t finish Darkcloudrepeat‘s entry, but I sure as heck tried like heck to finish it, heck, heck, heck. Heck, I’m still mad I couldn’t finish that one! I did have fun tagging it tho!

EDIT: I went back and best this level and also took the high score! Darks' level isn’t for everyone because it only has one checkpoint at the beginning and is filled with a bunch of nerve/rage inducing jumps to get to the end. This level is hazardous to your health and will **** you off… You’ve been warned.

I’m also proud to say I have the current High Score on xxMATEOSxx's level which is one heck of a rage inducing rock climbing race to the top! If you like a challenge, I dare you to beat my score…and yes it’s very beatable…

DawnBreaker_23’s entry was a well thought out top-down level with cool features and completely took me by surprise in a great way! I had fun trecking thru the world that was created and can’t wait to play your next adventure!

kasperi6’s level had an awesome oldskool feel loaded with fancy new LBP tech. It was treat to play and had a few unexpected things along the way that put a big smile on my face. I also had some fun tagging this level!

KomodoBrothers’s entry was quite enjoyable from beginning to end and the small touches throughout I think gave this one the nod for me. I also had some fun tagging…

Thanks everyone! I love that there were no "duds" in this contest, they were all very enjoyable and some creators I've never heard of I'll be keeping an eye on now! It was a lot of fun making my level and I can't wait for the fancy interview :)

This was an absolute gem of a contest. I love how none of the entries took the obvious route. Really enjoyed playing these. Thanks to everyone who entered and to Dragonvarsity for organising it. Congratulations to KomodobroBrothers - lovely atmosphere you created there!

I noticed you've posted threads for some of your levels here, but it doesn't look like you've tried using the F4F system. I highly recommend you try it, here's how it works.

The creator interview with KomodoBrothers should pop up shortly.
