42 minutes? Can we get some talking points? Perhaps a cliff notes version?
Thanks for posting.
It's interesting seeing the early ideas for LBP3. Now I want a Rusk costume for Oddsock. :)
Thanks for posting this Gribble! Just finished watching it. Loved the early stuff and that whole sponge world animation was very cool. I always love seeing the community members that were hired talking about the game and what not. A couple of those guys I had NO idea were now working for Sumo. I wish they'd do a video that had each of the "retired" community members kinda telling their story. I didn't like that "Brady Bunch" sequence with 9 of the creators in little small boxes. I wanted to hear each of them talk and I could hardly make out their names! Who's the guy bottom row, middle? Luke Hodgkinson, but what's his PSN?
I wish the jungle world at 18:00 made it in the final game. :(
Some of the prototype Story characters look incredibly creative too... They should add some of that stuff as DLC.
That was excellent. Gets me all nostalgic.
Wow! This video is pure gold! So entertaining to watch, got me all inspired and some true smiles here and there. Some levels seemed so freaking amazing! They should publish them eventually, why should they let the umbrella power-up die? , thanks for sharing Gribble, pure gold 8)
One question though: Of course I remember Spaff, but why do they say that Sarah took over after him? Wasn't that StevenI's job first, and then he will share community management with Sarah? I don't really know how that was managed and who is working for who lol
The jungle town levels concept actually looks bit more fun n interesting then the worlds we ended up getting imo. And those 3 story characters looked amazing 'Girl and old lady and squirrel' feels like a shame to not include them... be nice if they could redo that concept later as a DLC pack. *mew
Wow, that video is great and some years in the future it will be a historical document! ;) Probably!^^
Morgana's real name isn't Morgana?

Alas it's not. I like my real name too though. :)
So glad they released that early footage. Some of that work was so strong. I'm biased because the umbrella (brolly) section was my art, but I really did love that level.
Like others have said, I would love to see some of that earlier stuff re-purposed as a level dlc pack. (Assuming it's still around) Some really cool looking things! :p
I wonder how Pete would look like if he would have a beard like the other guys.
I wish they'd let David and Sean talk all the way through, was genuinely very interesting to hear their take on LBP3's development.
As for that brolly - man, Morgana, how cool - it looks like that morphed into part of the bendy rails system we see now? Love seeing how everything shifted and changed.
By the by, that marketing video is also a pretty good explanation for something: Lots of folks have been complaining about how short story mode is. Well, the video gives me a thought that story mode's probably been rebuilt many many times. Who knows how short a time the team's actually had to build story mode as we see it today? Quality over quantity I reckon - I'm glad it's such a tight gameplay experience. We always want MOAR, but that's a good sign in itself. I'd rather feel like I need to see more than want to see the darned story end already! ;)
So totally awesome to see the community team get some recognition - again, could have watched a lot more of you guys. And thank YOU!
ROFL about the community speculation over the last few years.
"One thing I really love about LBP is the DLC".......... Oh I wonder why that might be, Pete
"what's your favourite piece of DLC?" O_o really? You're running low on time and you're going to plug more DLC? MOAR RETROSPECTIVES PLS KTHXBAI!!!!!!!

As for the whole Spaff / Sarah thing:
Steven took over from Spaff in Feb 2012. I remember this because the announcement was made during the Vita Game Jam in Sweden, so in all honest senses of the term, Spaff's successor is Steven.
As I remember it, Sarah took over from Sam_Protagonist (remember him? http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/mem...SamProtagonist), working for Sony directly (She works with xdev on other projects as well as LBP, which I presume is why we didn't really hear much from her until recent months.)
-------------
I'd love to have seen Steven on this panel tbh. Not hating on Sarah or anything, but I just feel Steven's got the better background knowledge of the community, what with the fact that he IS (or was, hard to pigeonhole) a community member when all is said and done. I'm guessing that he's still hard at work so couldn't take the time out to go - there's a whole lotta of bug reporting going on atm! ;)
Yeah, I'm actually very disappointed that the Q&A with fans didn't happen. I heard Sarah say they'll answer questions outside once the retrospective was done, does anyone know what was asked?
I was looking forward to seeing how they'd deal with a question regarding the buggy release. :)
What's been released lately or is coming up shortly? To guess at DLC....Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy, Turtles. Star Wars is too far away..in a galaxy..
Whenever I see that community creators have joined the main team, it makes me both extremely jealous and extremely curious as to who made which level. Anyone here with Sumo want to talk about their experience creating levels for the actual game? How was it different? How much input did you have on the shaping of the new create tools, and how often did you "cheat" as Mm often did in creation? Thats what I really want to hear.
The thing is, once being hired at sumo, many of the creators will have been assigned a specific task - whether level design, visual design, audio, movies, etc etc. So one particular level will have had many creators working on it in stages, as I understand it at least.
that being said, I agree - would LOVE too see a QA session with some of these awesome folks in the future - there are sooo many questions - and it would be very cool of sumo to allow them the freedom to talk about it, now that the game's in full release. Help to nurture and direct any future potential employees in the community ;)
edit: sniped by steven - awesome to here steven! thank you!
