I remember reading/hearing somewhere recently that fluff/bubbles are the "currency" of LBP, in respect to the Create part of the game... 'The heck? So you need fluff to build?
I thought the more fluff you gathered, the more items unlocked... It made it sound like you need fluff to build... Go to Create, use your fluff, oh look! I need more... Let me go play Meerkat Bounce for an hour. I come back to Create, continue building, etc...
Say it ain't so. That would just make it long, tedious and annoying. Definitely not what I expected it to be. At all.
I wish I could remember the article or video, but could anyone shed some light on this?

I've never heard anything about this. Maybe the video meant that the more fluff you get in a level, the better the reward? I can't believe MM would make a decision as stupid as this.

I've heard the same thing.. I will try and locate the video. They stated 'in this level you are collecting fluff, which is the games currency' so it sounds like that's the case. They also will have fluff w/what looks to be objects inside. Like the parts to build with and costumes/backgrounds etc.

"The rewards for doing so mainly comprise Fluff, which is essentially the in-game currency used for unlocking more items and tools for use in Create. Occasionally the player will be gifted with fully-made objects too."
Whatever that means; most likely it won't be a cost issue, like I have to go play levels to get more fluff so I can build the level I want. Maybe you can 'buy' stuff with it, and also collect stuff inside the developer levels.
Anyone know anything else on this?Last edited by Abs1nth3; 09-08-2008 at 05:56 AM.

I was worried about that when I heard it on the video too. I believe that fluff has 2 main purposes: Extra ponts so say you have to reach 5000 ponts in a level to get the level's rewards, there's purpose number 1. Number 2 is a total of accumulated fluff used similarly to Studs in the LEGO series, you use the fluff to buy extra "building blocks" like the backgrounds or textures or mechanisms. Once they are bought, you use them as many times as you like in your created levels.
I believe that you could fill created level's thermometers every time without spending any fluff, you'd just have less things to build with. Whenever we've seen "create" being demonstrated, I've never seen any indication of using up fluff as they went along, just filling the thermometer (slowly!).
That's the way it seems to me, hope I made sense!

I will seriously reconsider buying LBP if it has "currency", that would just completely destroy the game for me. You're supposed to have freedom, no?

If true - that's a bit annoying. But there's no way it'll stop me buying LBP! Nothing can stop the inevitable!

i don't really see it as a bad reason to not buy LBP for that. If you think about it, it'll be a reason to play other peoples levels for the fluff.
Finishing all 50 levels would most likely get you enough fluff to buy anything (plus create your own stuff which i think is free) The fluff may also be for the designs and other items you can equip your sackboy/girl with.
Playing more levels made by people = more fluff! :3

I'm sure the fluff won't relate to how much you can create... otherwise that'll reconsider the amount of buys, and I mean alot!

I think charging more fluff for the more complex tools is a good idea. its just takes the "You can't create until you've completed the first 3 levels' further. makes sure you know HOW before you DO.
good idea imo, and I don't know what everybody is complaining about either; most people said they want to complete the game before they start to create.
ALSO, its unlikely you'll need THAT much fluff to unlock everything. maybe comlete each level abour 85% right through to the end.. you should have more then enough fluff for everything, there, imo.

If so, there is more of a challenge to this game.
Challenge=Replayability.
Good idea me thinks.

This is a lie.
How do I know this? Because you can put bubbles in your own levels. I don't think Mm's stupid enough to charge for creation, when you can just make your own currency.

I think it would be very unlikely.

I think this is so that we don't get a ****storm of crappy levels the day the game is released. We have to learn the ropes before we start making huge projects. Of course, this doesn't help me because I'll have played the game for a very long time before I buy it.

Planning on getting in on the beta? Seem pretty confident.I think this is so that we don't get a ****storm of crappy levels the day the game is released. We have to learn the ropes before we start making huge projects. Of course, this doesn't help me because I'll have played the game for a very long time before I buy it.
Anyway, I don't think the currency will be that big of a deal. If it was, they would've talked about it much more, and most people just faintly remember it. I'm not worried.

He's not getting it at release. Just playing a friends game for a while, look at the sig.
In terms of the currency, as long as it doesn't limit the amount of stuff you can put in the level im happy.

Bubbles/Fluff in your levels could be kept for scoring, but would not add to your currency.
Don't eliminate our other possibilities yet. d:Published Levels: Razhotep's Tomb, Tekno Fortress

No, that's old information. Now, you just unlock points(which count for nothing more than leaderboards) and objects/items to use in your creation process.

Yes, this is what they proposed, and I have heard it several times, but like they say "If the community doesn't like it, we will remove it." They will be absolutely stupid not to listen to the "people", so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even if they don't change it, doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. From playing the 50 levels you will probably have tons of fluff to make items. Plus, what are you going to be doing more creating or playing? Also, how do you put fluff in your own level? Does fluff cost fluff? That would cause TONS of problems...think about it.
