Some of you may have heard of the new Tim Burton film called 9. I just heard of it as I stumbled across a trailer at MySpace and was stunned by what I saw.
Is it just me, or does this character from the movie have a striking resemblence to a certain someone we all know too well?

Okay now its working. And i think I remember an old LittleBigPlanetoid article on this. Give me a sec
EDIT: Here it is
The latest film from acclaimed director/producer Tim Burton features characters with very a similar design to our ever loved Little Big Planet mascot, Sackboy.
'9' is "A post-apocalyptic nightmare in which all of humanity is threatened." and the latest official trailer shows beautifully hand-crafted characters complete with chunky stitching - and some even sport a more than familiar zip running down their chest. The trailer also features a giant mechanical evil skull that bears a striking resemblance to Skulldozer, which appears in the games 'The Wedding' levels.

Sackboy? with his trademark zip and a hessian fabric skin with chunky stitches.

Is that Skulldozer?
Little Big Planet and it's leading star were first shown during GDC Spring 2007. We don't quite know when concepts for 9 were first started, but there is always a chance that Tim Burton and his team saw that special something in our little sack friend and are simply paying homage to his greatness. Either way, Tim Burton's films are nearly always nothing short of brilliant so we'll be looking forward to seeing 9 with great anticipation.
9 is rather unsurprisingly out on 09/09/09 and you can watch the trailer on Apple Trailers.

ZOMG Tim Burton's ripping off LBP! Nooo! Nah, this isn't the case at all.
You may or may not have heard that 9 is based on a 2005 short film, of the same name, which did indeed feature a sentient rag doll. I think sackboy was Mr Yellowhead back then, if he even existed at all
Bring on the rumour mill and pitchforks people!
Just to add more weight to this, the original short was being created for 4 years before it was released so this puts the orignal concept for 9 back as far as 2001. Clearly LittleBigPlanetoid's research lasted all of 2 seconds if they couldn't find out that information...
I'm really looking forward to 9 actually, looks like it has loads of potential.Last edited by rtm223; 08-19-2009 at 07:41 AM.

Thanks for pointing that out to me JKthree. ^_~
And I got the image working now, but it doesn't matter with images like JK's.
I wonder if Media Molecules has seen these resemblences and if they are curious as to whether his inspiration may have possibly came from LBP? ^_^

Just pointing out that this is only produced or even exec. produced by Burton.
I love Burton but in this case he does not deserve his name plastered all over this.
It came out of the mind of Shane Acker and it is he who deserves praise.
PS: He did a sackperson before Mm as well.

Yes but Shane Acker does get the writing/directing credit and is obviously using Tim Burton's name to market it. Very similar to what happened with The Orphanage and Hostel (examples of the top of my head). Unknown directors get their work recognised by having a well-known name attached. OK so the ignorant masses won't realise, but they probably wouldn't pay attention to the name of a director unless they were really famous anyway. Those people that do pay attention to these things will know and it will give a much-deserved boost to Shane Acker's Career.
I wonder if Shane Acker has seen these resemblences and if he is curious as to whether LBPs inspiration may have possibly came from 9

Well in this case I have just learned something. Either way, one got inspiration from the other, which I now know would most likely be MM getting inspiration from Shane Acker.
The chances that none of them got inspirations from the other just seems very unlikely, but possible.
EDIT: I just didn't know the sack person concept of the character in that movie existed before MM.

Sackboy has a bigger head.

We don't know when the concept art for sackboy came about. Someone from MM could have been drawing him for years.
Still, sackboy has a bigger head. I doubt this is related to LBP at all, because sackboys head is bigger.Last edited by Awesomemans; 08-19-2009 at 08:47 AM.

Of course
but people are simply referring to the similarities, which can't help but to leave many wondering.
It also makes me wonder what it would be like if there ever was a LBP movie? Which I'm sure would look and feel every bit like LBP, although that is not the case with some cross overs.Last edited by s3xNstilettos; 08-19-2009 at 09:07 AM.

Actually, sackboy looks a lot like the rag doll on the standard cover of Korn's Issues album as well. Just less abused....

Wait...but isn't sackboy just supposed to look like a rag doll? To my knowledge, MM didn't make the first ragdoll. CASE CLOSED! I WIN!
Plus, my sackboy looks nothing like that. He looks like a cross between a ringmaster monkey king and Kratos.

Actually no, you don't win.
We aren't talking about ragdolls, we're talking about sackboy before in his purist form without any costumes, etc. The iconic zipper and certain similarities are all sack people (a specific kind of rag doll if that's how you want to word it). If we were talking about rag dolls in general, then of course MM didn't make the first rag doll.

Tim Burton's sackboy is ugly.
Media Molecule's sackboy has ABs.

That movie looks awesome. I saw a preview for it with my father before a movie and he said: "Is that that 'LittleBigPlanet' game you play?"

It looks like LittleBigPlanet made babies with Fallout 3.

Do you know what? I actually have no idea what he's talking about

Also, what's even funnier is looking up definitions of "ab" "abs" "A.B." and "A.B.S" on urban dictionary. Some of it's quite offensive, but that's why it make me chuckle whentrying to relate it to a sackperson
