LBL: Fairytale - Ali Baba and the Forty Point Bubbles by CaptainCowboyHat
My entry in the fairytale competition over at LittleBigLand. I figured I'd post it here; I'm rather pleased with it!
I can do 5 or so F4Fs... I have more free time now, as I've been laid off!![]()

I played this the other night and really enjoyed it. Seriously sneaky bubble hiding skills ya got there Cap'n.
Loved the look of it and your punches of lighting (I love that use of lights!) and especially that it has some of the feel of your Princess series in the platforming. You can run right through it fairly easily which is good but if you really want to get those darn bubbles you have set up some great challenges to get them. Really varied gameplay too. Never felt repetitive or stale at any point either. I'm not that good a bubble hunter it seems.... didn't get to see our mysterious guide. I'm going to have to go play it a few more times to get those darned bubbles!
Well done 5 stars & hearted!

Hiya,
Loved the idea of this level. the speech bubbles were genuinely funny. visuals excellent. I love the point bubble counters - i'm assuming mag key on point bubble somehow? We found a level hole. Right next to the first counter, we jumped left and fell through and landed in very dark water. we restarted at this point cos we wanted all 10 bubbles!
I dont know if this is intentional but at the start you can climb the jugs and get onto the roof. There are some very very clever use of hidden passages here. Just by the rising and falling platforms, there is a jug in the fire - is this a mistake? We got all 10on the first section and photo'd it!
A minor bug, but when got to the gate, Luos got through but I didn't. I realise in 1p that can't happen.
Loved the water sections. We got to the 2nd bubble counter, realised we missed one, so killed ourselves but were then stuck behind the falling rock. I realise this is deliberate - but perhaps a checkpoint AFTER the blockage but BEFORE the points counter would sort this.
Really good difficulty slope through the 4 sections.
At the end, a boulder tried to fall on me, I dodged it RIGHT, then accidently died, which spawned me beyond the final bubble. I dont mind the boulder chase, but I think you need to let the player be a little further on before it drops.
I absolutely loved this gameplay. You managed to bring back the 'hunting for prize bubbles' gameplay from the mm levels into a user level. The way you hid them and had such great variety of gameplay in there was fantastic. this is definately my favourite fairytale level so far - and I've played a few. Definately 5* and a heart. ...and I will be coming back to move my 38 to a 40! Luos and I have the top score in 2p atm.
I don't believe 5 people have asked for F4F yet, so if you could play and review 'in pursuit of the meddling magpie' for me that would be greatly appreciated. AdiLBPK Tutorials

Thank you, TheAdipose... That is very helpful feedback. I'm actually not sure whether I'm allowed to actually fix anything at this point, since the competition's going on, but once it's over I will go back and clean it up.
1. No, you are not supposed to be able to get on the roof. I'll fix that.
2. Yes, the vase is supposed to be sitting there in the fire - why? I don't know, I just thought it looked cool and added to the busted-up ruins atmosphere. Also it saved me from dying a few times during playtesting.
3. Yeah, I always assume people will play my levels alone because I never play levels with anyone else. Oops. I'll see what I can do.
4. I'll have the trigger that makes the rocks fall before the 2nd scoreboard also trigger the checkpoint to prevent that very situation!
5. I think you're right about the last boulder...It's a little mean. I'll make it easier.
Again, thanks! I'll play your level next time I'm on!My hands are cold!

Such a simple but clever idea to use the bubbles in this way! Each one counts and acts as its own seperate lil challenge. Great flow to this as well Cap'n , really enjoyed it. : )

I finally got the chance to play this yesterday night and once again you really impressed me with the gameplay! I just find it to be so much fun, I did find it a bit easier than your princess levels which was a nice welcome.

The visuals were also great with all the details and decorations used very well. I only got 17 bubbles on my first playthrough though, I'll definitely be back to try and collect them all! I must say, you have a really great chance of winning the competition.

Yep, this was a great little level with some fantastic speech bubbles. The fact that you used 3 layers shocked me!!
Are you branching off from the OH No!! series?
@TheAdipose... put a magnetic key switch on the point bubble and wire it to the light. Since there are no keys, the light will stay off until the bubble is collected (thereby destroying the switch). That's the easiest way to do it.Mm Picks: Roller INC 2 | Wizard: Chapter 1 | LittleBigPrius

I never intentionally went for the title of "one layer guy" :P But yeah I guess this was an attempt at a non-OH NO!!! level. That's why I went gleefully overboard with all the jagged corners!

Me and Adi collected all the scorebubbles.
Lovely level!
what adi said, because we discussed the level while playing.
Can you show me how to get that lava like texture you used, it looks much better than setting materials on fire.
