Yeah this will be optional. We will get everything we have now. But you will have to pay for additional awesome thingies. (Cross Game Chat etc)
I don't think that Sony would charge to actually play online (like the xbox) since it is currently one of their biggest selling points

I finally got a new PS3, so I should be fairly active around here again! I missed you all!

I personally, find it way more rewarding so it's worth the $70 a year. Betas? Cross-Game Chat? 1 hour trial of full content? Prices reduce? ALL OPTIONAL?!

If they do.
I won't get it. I only use PSN for LBP, and I text chat in that, so forgot paying!
Still get DLC though

Look put it this way, I have gave sony £60 since PSN card came out just so i could support them, I probably wouldn't of done this if i had to pay more for the right to be on psn.
I'm giving sony another £20 this week because I want final fantasy 8. Its this support that people give son that makes PSN great, dont ruin it by giving certain players extra contnt for £40 and other people just be dirt on the driveway.
Put it this way, XBOX live silver get nothing other than the free gold weekend once a year a nd that weekend L4D2 for free weekend.

I don't know if this has already been said but they are just going to charge for additional features. Also it wouldn't be smart of sony to just start charging for there internet service; many people wouldn't buy the subscriptions if that was the case.

What annoys me on ps3, is lack of dlc, apart from lbp and gh5 and others from games companies, and not sony themselves.

The way I see it, this could work out well for Sony. Everyone is always saying that the online experience is much better on xbox. If Sony can continue to provide the current level of service for free and match xbox's subscription services with their own subscription services, then for many people the cost of subscription (which, let's face it, will be nominal), will seem worthwhile.
If they then throw in a few exclusives here and there, then the perceived value of the subscriptions will increase. I won't take much, if the average gamer these days is mindless enough to consider trophies as a major aspect of their gaming experience, then as far as I can tell they'll go for anything. This will get more people on board with the subscriptions.
No one can really complain either, as long as Sony keep the free service and make subscription optional. Obviously, people will complain, because they will want more for less - expecting the premium stuff for free. However, seeing as the competition don't offer free service, and the quality of their free service will (should) be unaffected by the change, I'm sure they will be complaining simply for the sake of complaining, no one's going to jump ship over this as long as the free service remains.
Essentially, no one loses out on this, in any real way.-- ? --

A year ago this would of been devastating to me, but i have money now so it's ok

If it happens it'll be kind of exciting to see improvements in the online service.
It will make console wars a bit more difficult though

There was a thread a lot like this before, and I'll repeat what I said there: This is a terrible idea and anyone who thinks it's a good idea needs to stop being such a fanboy. On a list of things that could be coming as premium items, one of the items was premium in-game content. That's the worst idea ever.
It depends how they implement it. If they take away anything that I currently have for free or make me wait for DLC and demos, that's ridiculous. It should be free to go into a store and buy things aside from the money you spend on the items you buy themselves. Something like a movie service? I'd be fine with that existing.Last edited by Awesomemans; 02-08-2010 at 11:48 PM.

Sony wouldn't charge PSN, that would be a bad marketing move. They will lose their fans.
