Arena of the Gladiators [2P only / pvp] by TheAdipose
The greatest thrill in gaming comes from vanquishing a friend. Adi and Luos provide the Arena, you provide the gladiators. This level is for 2 players ONLY - and contains 6 frantic challenges for you to compete against your friends in. Dare you enter the Arena of the Gladiators?
** Video trailer ** <<<--- click here to watch the 2 min video trailer!! Level highlights with some excellent music to get you in the mood for competition!!
This level started because I was sick of playing 'races' that weren't actually competitive and just involved holding down an accelerate button. It is the result of about a months hard work. It is VERY different from 'in pursuit of the meddling magpie' - but we didnt want to pigeon hole ourselves into a genre.
In this level we have created SIX very competitive, very fast, very fun events. They are all designed for 2 players and won't work for 1, 3 or 4 players so please don't try![]()
Several of these games use a splitscreen gameplay while the players compete. Whilst im sure I'm not the first to try this - I havent seen it before - so hopefully this will feel pretty original to you guys.
Luos has created a fantastic animated character for this level. It works having 6 pre-set body positions and by using rtm's de-emitters, it can flip between them with ease - definately worth checking out! the character can move his neck, arms, waist - and even his fingers and biceps!
A video tutorial showing character creation to accompany this level will be released this week.
Adi's credits.
Thanks to... Clarie- for making everyday fun (awww), luos - for all the time he spends putting up with me, comph for his patient help with a few logic issues, rtm for his de-emitters, Sync + fred + judy + morgana + MrsSB + many others for helping us test and providing useful feedback.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Adi and Luos.

OK here we go!
I have played this with luos and with Adi and thought it was great fun. (I haven't played it since you posted it so if you guys changed something please let me know)
The Character who guides you through is very well done and is very cool to see in between each challenge. I love how he changes as you progress.
As for the challenges themselves:
I thought they are very well done. Interesting and challenging without being too hard. (unless your playing with the people who created them and then you just might as well give up!
I thought the layout was well done as well.
I am eager to try this with someone who hasn't played so I can see if I can win one!
(but then I am the one who has done it before and I'll feel like I'm cheating...naw...I have no memory so who ever I play with wont be penalized) LOL
Great level and nice challenge.
Will rate it 5 Stars and Heart it with a Puzzler tag

This level started out with almost all chalenges worked out within a week or so..
I redid the visuals three times, and because we had to optimise logic near extremes we had to put more time into this level than we actually wanted.
but I am really happy with the results, and I will take any of you on any day of the week! (in the level!! not irl!!)
Also thanks to Robocrash for playing trough the level with me, same goes for TheGide as he helped me to optimise the logic for a few hours.
Also many thanks to all other people who helped me to test and review this level!!
I can finally work on Sack 5, and the new level me and adi want to create.

I managed to find a friend to play LBP with and headed straight to this level to give it a go. I really liked the variety of the challenges and how most of the time it wasn't always the same person winning (well actually it was.. but I play too much lbp
) but the different challenges favoured different people.
I also loved how the team names stayed the same on all of the banners without having to sticker them again - very cool.
Just overall had a lot of fun playing and competing throughout the level, so very little wrong with it. What I would say though is that it's not nice being the red team and getting boo'ed every time
I had to switch half way through with my friend because she didn't like being booed... so yeah, maybe switch it up so different people get cheered each time?
As I said though, a great level - 5 stars and a heart

I thought it was awesome. I enjoyed it in the testing phase and it's even better (obviously) in its completed form.
A couple of quibbles though. In the maze with the doors that open/close, it seems like blue has a bit of an advantage since he's standing on the ground and running under a door, while red has to jump up to the level with the door and go over it: red seems to have a narrower window of opportunity to make that gate. I noticed it during testing but forgot to mention it, and then my nephew and I both had problems with it (we played, then switched colors). Maybe make it so the red door goes up instead of down, and/or move them a bit further from the edge so that red has more room to stand while waiting for the door to move.
The other quibble I have, I mentioned in the comment section of the level, but I'll repeat it here. It seems like the gondola segment is weighted more than it should be. On our second play-through, I trounced my nephew on almost every race (I won a couple by a pretty big margin 10+ seconds) and I'm pretty sure I won the others too, but not by such a big margin. I also lasted quite a bit longer in the survival race. He ultimately won the game, though, because I got stuck in the wrong end of the gondola for about 5-6 seconds (wasn't expecting him to be able to slap me so hard: I guess the gondola was moving pretty fast). It was good 'cuz he's a kid and I probably shoulda' let him win anyway, but it seemed a bit unfair after I did so well at all the other events. Not really sure how to fix this one, except to maybe slow down the bubble emitter so there's not quite so many points at stake or make the segment run a bit longer so there's more time to recoup a quick mistake (those are a bit contradictory: making it longer would increase the points at stake; I think the first option would be better).
Other than that, I loved it. More people should make legitimate two player levels: not just hold down the accelerator or bomb survival.

I thought it was a great level guys, I loved how the npc gladiator move throughout the level with you. Also for any of you that plan to play it, the gladiator follow you, so for fun try stickering him an watching him, its so funny! I love the level and was happy to watch you guys do your "collabe creators" the other day, another great level from adipose and luos! Great job guys!

I really what you've done guy. This might be some of the most innovative and interesting "2 players only" level since Dig It.
Keep up the good work guys
