Finally the waited beta! Tried 2 times, and I really liked it. Great and simple controls, the Circle thing is awesome. The "dummy robot" idea is cool, but it's a little weird, try some cow glitched materials to make it looks better! The enemies are very wel made, as the Zaku, and they are a good challenge! The first time, an enemy exploded and destroyed half Zaku, so I restarted. he second time I didn't find imporant bugs, only sometimes I got stuck in the enemies. The improvements of this mech are many, the only thing I like more in the older version was the look. This new mech is softer, small, and has better controls, but I'll like a plasma sword when I come near an enemy, or maybe a sort of shield. Nah, the shield isn't really important.
I've never seen the Gundam anime, but now I'm very curious about it...

  2. Thanks!

Well dummies in Gundam are essentially balloon versions of the mobile suits they come from which is why the dummy looks the way it does in the level. I'm also happy you enjoyed the controls. The circle function (thanks Gilgamesh) really worked out well and saves the player lots of frustration when trying to figure out all the R1 controls. I'll probably add a close range weapon eventually. Glad you liked the beta so far!

The next level I'm drawing up will be featuring this guy...

I played this 3 times tonight - wow, man! Obviously, one thing that really excites me is when a mechanic really works well in LBP - and the controls are really tight here. I loved the new reverse switch (also worked well in Strikewing), and everything was responsive. Definite classic arcade action here - really got my adrenaline rushing flying as fast as I could and dog-fighting with the enemies. I also really enjoyed the more difficult enemies near the end - I always felt there was a strategy that I could use to take them down.

As regards play balancing, some of the later more difficult enemies seemed to be splraying so much plasma I sometimes couldn't see how to avoid it. However, I apologize if this is wrong - I may need to just practice a bit more

Glad you enjoyed it so far! I do plan on toning down the laser spam of the last couple as health will not be permanent in the final version. Even I have to head back and refresh a couple times because it gets intense at times! But you can see when they're going to relax on the attack as they have the same overheat mechanic as the Zaku. I suppose I could make the dummy larger to help compensate as it's supposed to be a shield (and it messes with the tracking of the Balls). Let me know if you have any other ideas to make it better overall.

Ultimately, I want to recapture the feeling of games like Metal Warriors on the SNES...

Tethered jetpacks are the key. ^^

I've also updated the visuals a bit and added another Guncannon for some fun. :3 The new build should be up now.

I'll check it out again tonight... I never really get tired of these kinds of games.

It was funny last night when I was playing it. My son was in the room and was getting frustrated and excited while I was playing it - "No, daddy! Don't go after those kinds of enemies! They're too hard! Go after the easy ones so you don't die!!!!!"

Haha, that's awesome. Glad to know it causes tension for everyone around you as well! My wife hates Gundam but after I forced the controller in her hand, she told me it was probably the easiest to control since helping me with the Steampunk Samurai. If I have her blessing, I think I'm good to go, lol.

I think I just need to reinforce the Guncannon's secondary weapons since they can break when flying around the White Base, which is this thing here...

This thing is what you'll be trying to "capture" in the end, with the Guncannons and Gundam trying to stop you. It was really fun dodging and using the base as cover while the enemies were following me around the ship. Thankfully, I made the Gundam's tracking dynamic enough to attempt to surprise attack you as you continue to whittle him down in health. There have been a couple times I lose him and go searching for a bit, then... BAM from the top or from the bottom! There's no real set pattern to any of the enemies aside from following or evading, so each playthrough can be rather different in your approach. I'm also going to add a race gate as well, but I will make it so that you have to defeat all the enemies in a certain area before you can continue. The White Base is also going to have turrets so its imperative to dodge... a lot!

I'm at 90% now, but I think I'll be able to throw in some other cool things before its over, including different "ending rankings" depending on how far you get.

There will definitely be a lot more detail added to White Base. As for the enemies getting out of control, what exactly do you mean?

As for random damage to the Zaku, I actually encourage that. >=) There have been a couple times where I'm too close to a GM or Ball exploding and the legs get blown off! Glad you feel that way about the action though! I'll be adding a close range weapon as well for some good measure. ^^

And here's a random pic I took last night when testing out a few things...

    Technically, you're right. =P

Regardless, glad you're still messing around with it. How's the responsiveness of the circle function? Thanks to Gilgamesh's help, I've sped up its activation speed. Dunno if that's noticeable though. Have there been other changes you've noticed that are either good or bad?

Not totally sure.... I would have to play it side by side for a true comparison. It's hard to tell whether the controls are getting better, or I'm simply getting better at the game. I DID notice the responsiveness in switching directions, but I didn't realize you changed it. I use the switching quite a bit because it "feels" more exciting flying by an enemy, flipping around, and attacking from the other side - sort of like dogfighting. I also started getting a better strategy for the harder dudes, which is a good sign for this kind of game.

Just retried it. The new circle system works pretty well... except that for some reason it doesn't seem to work at the beginning of the level. It only seems to be active once reaching the ship, though I have no idea why that is.

I managed to blow up an enemy white Gundam, and half of it was laying on the floor and continued shooting upwards. Also, something strange happened when I was fighting the crazy dark Gundam. I started constantly hearing the warning bell signifying that my health was low, but no matter how many times I was hit, I never blew up. After defeating that enemy, I tried to continue down the hallway but was blocked by something. I was eventually "squished" while attempting to break through whatever was blocking the way.

Starting to get the hang of avoiding the enemy's bullets, but I'm still not sure how to use the dummy properly. It's pretty fun when there's some wide open space and you can do some proper dogfighting.
