I'm excited. I'm going to go do homework now; do you guys have any suggestions for what to do with my PS3?

Congrats dude!
Get Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, WipEout HD, for starters when you can. Both are excellent games. And Burnout Paradise is more than worth the $30 (you cana actually download it off the PSN!).
But I would definitely tweak the settings of the PS3. Do you have an HDTV? Are you hooked up Via HDMI or Component? The ps3 can be tweaked for best picture quality and such.

Hmm. Things to do before you purchase/receive your first PS3 game:
Sign up for PSN (enter credit card info, you'll regret it later)
Edit your online profile and comment
Add friends
Get your online working
Check out the internet on your PS3
Go to the Playstation Store and download a bunch of themes/backgrounds
Play around with your background, theme, and XMB settings
Download a bunch of demos from the Playstation Store
Get to know the PS3 (different settings, how to do stuff, etc.)
Import some music from any CD's you have
If you have headset/mic - Register your headset/mic device on your PS3
If you have PSeye - Download eyecreate for free and mess around with it
Watch some DVDs or BRDs
Borrow games from friends
Eat a tuna sandwich
And those are just a few of the things you can do with your PS3.
Oh, most importantly:
Have Fun!

Let me give you this advice, something that I've found works very, very well:
Step A. Go to the PSN Store.
Step B. Go to the Demos section.
Step C. Download any demo that catches your vague interest, especially if they've been reviewed well, or even if they haven't.
Step D. Wait.
Step E. Play your demos.
That should last you for a while, and should make your console seem like it's actually useful, rather than an empty box with nothing incredibly useful.
Also, I heavily endorse getting Burnout Paradise. It's cheap, it's awesome.

Elefunk
Pixeljunk Eden
Soul Calibur IV

My recommends, in no particular order but my memory:
Resistance
Ratchet and Clank
Motorstorm
PixelJunk Racers
Fracture
Battlefield: Bad Company (less so now that multiplayer's been disabled)
Skate
Top Spin 3
Lost Planet (Maybe)
I really can't remember anything else at the moment, but I'll leave it at that. Some of those have a considerable amount of replayability to them.

For the demo? Are you sure you mean that, and not the full game? I remember it shutting down very soon after the game came out, and then I saw a post on the Battlefield site talking about how it was down, and they're giving away the weapon you could unlock by playing it since you can't get it.

Wow, I totally forgot about Lost Planet. When I first got my PS3, I played that demo a billion times more than the Motorstorm that came with it. :P
