Malevolence unfolds in The Gardens by OneEyedBanshee
You decide it's a nice day for a walk but don't realise that it's the day a dark plan will begin to unfold, shaking all of Little Big Planet to its core.
Hello! This is my entry for the community contest "The Mm Themed Mini-Level Contest: The Gardens" set up by Piggabling. I had a lot of fun making it and hope you enjoy playing it if you decide to do so. Here's some screen shots taken in create mode. It's short but sweet I like to think.
The King and Queen have been 'tranced' into becoming the new faces of evil in Little Big Planet. Of course someone else is behind it all.. In this first chapter you discover the damage that they can cause with a mysterious flying device and it's this that inspires you to go on a a new quest. You have to find out exactly what is going on and stop this evil from taking over all of Little Big Planet, and obviously save the King and Queen in the process!
Hopefully it doesn't break any rules
Feedback greatly appreciated so I can make it the best it can be.
I'd rate it as very easy, it is gardens after all
Just noticed typo in title!![]()
It's 'Malevolence unfolds in The gardens' Anyone know how to edit title?! I'll search now though agh!
Edit: Figured out how to edit it myself, whew!
Thanks!
Well I'm sure most people that are going to play this have played by now. I recorded a play through of it for anyone that just wants to take a look at it in action, it is a short level so a trailer would be really short! So this is the whole thing. Story wise doesn't really kick in until halfway so if you don't want spoilage turn it off and go play!

I will try it out soon... then I shall send you a punch in the face just because I feel you deserve it for some unknown reason.

Ok thanks?.. lol. There's a bug at the end that was fairly rare in create mode and then testing in play. But since publishing it has happened to me both times i played argh. So I'm tweaking things but no guarantee it's perfectly working so if you find the racer gets stuck when he chases you let me know.
Wow I played again and it happened! What the? This is so frustrating becuase the fix involves having to move so much crap so I can emit something back in the right place, ugh.
Edit: Think it's fixed now thankfully.Last edited by OneEyedBanshee; 04-10-2010 at 11:54 PM.

Hey, just played it. It was very good. I really liked how you used all the different parts of gardens. I thought the platforming was great. I thought it wasn't too difficult but still had enough of a challenge to feel rewarding. I really like the evil king and queen. I thought they were done very well. Also, the evil racer was very cool.
My one concern is that after you get chased, I don't know if the scoreboard is suppose to come down right away. I ended up walking around, I even went all the way back to the start looking for it. I eventually climbed back up to find it but I think that there needs to be some way to indicate where it is because I was very confused after it was over.
Overall it was very good, I gave it five stars. When you get a chance can you check out my Retro Retribution level? (link in my sig)My Levels

Shebhnt thanks for the feedback, sure I'll check your level out later. I know what you mean about the scoreboard, if you read all the text and then skip it would seem to take longer. Waiting for the text box to disappear itself would result in it appearing faster or so it would seem (at least I'm thinking you pressed circle after reading). I guess I am being very generous time wise in case someone reads very slow, but tweaking the timing shouldn't be hard, I will go to that when I start up LBP in a few minutes. Thanks! I also think I will add invisible boundaries or something because I really don't want someone wandering all the way around the place!
Thanks Oddmania!

I had a few plans to my Fantastical adventure and one that I scrapped was this story idea! I couldn't get it to straighten out in the long Run...
Anyway: I look forward to playing!

Lol well it's taken pretty much from a game called Toonstruck but twisted for LBP. I like how it came out but making a full length level with everything would be a better way of expanding it. I really enjoyed it and had a real laugh when I had someone else in OC with me and we were chatting about the possible storyline. They seriously did not want the King and Queen to die so I had them die just to wind them up but they wound up coming back as cyborgs! Alas I think it would be much more LBP if they came back in one piece.
Hope you enjoy playing.

Played your level this afternoon. I liked it.
-Good catchy title.
-The visuals were nice (I especially liked the grass you created, looked good).
-Gameplay was easy but fun. You used the vertical area well. I liked the hidden area with scorebubbles.
-The transformation of the level was a nice suprise. Well executed and funny.
Two small things:
-There was an invisible wall on one of the rocks in the beginning. It looks like you can jump on & over it, but you are held back on top. Perhaps you can make the rock a little higher, so you don't notice the invisible wall.
-Also, I managed to kill myself in the mushroom-area (slipped between the mushgrooms and squashed).
All in all: cool little level that demands a sequel!
If you have the time for F4F it would be great if you could take a look at one of my levels.

Heh thanks for the feedback! I will look into making the rock taller if I can find it, perhaps it's the one just above the windmill? I really am not a fan of that mushroom area so it might just get a little face lift. I'll check out one of your levels in a while for sure.

I'm a winner! and so is this level.
Ya know whats funny... I see you just posted in my thread...
Well I played yours first, last night so I win! Ha Ha!
Not gonna hit you with any feedback... 5 stars and hearted... Pick a tag! Brilliant, Ingenious, Inspired, Artistic, Boss! What a great amount of planning and detail went into this level... really well planned-out!
You created one of my favourite ALL-TIME cut-scene story telling sequences!
Inspired brilliance! Platforming was tough but never difficult-- which is difficult to do! I am very impressed. Unfortunately as soon as the story starts, the level is over...
So there you have it, my only complaint is wanting more...

Thanks!

Gravel thanks for that, really made my day! I appreciate the kind words really. It is for a mini level contest but I have to admit after getting through it I wanted more myself
A sequel is on the cards definitely. I really want to expand on it but with a whole level to play it out. You know the King and Queen want more destruction so I think I have to let them have it! I would really like to do a level on each theme and have the machine zap maybe even an entire area. I am playing with the idea of taking a level, sketching it out in it's entirety and then making an evil version of it. I'll see though, a few other things I want to make first, don't know if I can hold out that long though!

Played it an hour ago.

Good:
-Nice visuals
-Looks and feels like the Gardens
-Non-linear
Bad:
-The length didn't satisfy me. I wanted more!
-Some arrows pointing where to go might be nice, so I can go the opposite direction!
Overall, It's a nice level, like something MM would make.

+ Heart + Brilliant.
Back. But then probably no one noticed I was gone

Thanks for the comments Jazve. I will look into adding some arrows, that would make it really MM! I get the length issue but there's nothing I could do about it, I will make a sequel for sure and hopefully satisfy the general hunger for more

Thanks!
