    Default Tutorial Spotlight

Well, Aya said I could make a new Tutorial Spotlight as the old one is out of date and CC doesn't really have the time to throw it together... and I have all the time in the world and like make useless lists, so here I am.

Anyway, the tutorial spotlight will be the spotlight for the best tutorials of LBP. If you feel there are any that deserve to go here, just post it and me and my oh so discriminating talents will formulate a good list... of sorts.

I also created a tutorial request, so that people can request tutorials... and hopefully someone makes it.

So, without further a do and ranting... Here it is!

Ho ha! Yeah, updated list, let me know what you think should be added.

Also, Incinerator, you mind making a new topic about the censored words, I don't want to link to posts... Cause I'm anal like that. D:

Anywho, yep, any more suggestions everyone? Also added tutorial Request section... because I thought it'd be a good idea. Added a tutorial request. I COULD make it, but I... /shrug. Anyway, I just wanted a place for people to request tutorials. Yes.

    Any more suggestions?

Right. I did a quick scan through the DB to find the most 'thanked' posts, assuming that might be a good place to start a new list from. Here's a list of all first posts in the tutorials forum with 20+ 'thanks', ordered by descending number of thanks...

66 - Comprehensive Thermo Overview and Guide
44 - Odd Censored LBP Words - Replace with Incinerator22's more up-to-date LBP In-Game Censorship List
43 - How To Seriously Cheat The Thermo
42 - The Complete Guide to Secret Materials and Stickers
42 - Units, Measurements and more
39 - How To Recreate The 3D Layer Glitch
36 - Back Up your LBP Data. Here's why and how. - See if we can get rtm233 to update this since the many changes that happened in Leerdammer.
    36 - Jackofcourse's Guide to Creating: UPDATED 18/9/09 Section 10 added.
36 - GUIDE: How to get more plays on your level.
35 - Layer Glitch FAQ - Get the most out of your custom backgrounds/foregrounds
31 - Creating Editable Invisible Material In Seconds
28 - How to make any material be like a mirror
28 - Complex Shapes Tutorials: The Visual Guide
24 - Everything about the Cool Levels Pages.
    24 - Little things/tricks some don't know.
21 - How to use the 3D layer glitch - video tutorial!
21 - Extracting Tweakable Lasers in Cornish Yarg, Creating a Laser Wave - Not sure if this still works or not.
21 - The LBPC Costume Item Archive
21 - How To Cheat The Thermo - Don't bother with this, it's not as good as my other one.
21 - Merging Objects or Materials aka Compression Tool
21 - How to 'plasmafy' objects - This doesn't work any more

From the existing stuff, I think we ought to keep...

    Logic: The Pudding of LittleBigPlanet

    • Brought to you by feloneouscat, this series (yes, series) of tutorials will teach you the "ins and outs" of adding logic to your LittleBigPlanet levels, from the basic idea all the way through execution and optimization. A must-read for any Creator looking for ways to improve their skills.

How to Tame the Pesky Wobble Bolt
    • Wobble Bolts are difficult to understand, so here's a guide detailing how to get around their quirks and harness their usefulness.

Cinematic control using magic mouths: Do's and Don'ts

    • Magic mouths can drastically improve the quality of your level, but not if you don't know how to use them correctly! Make sure you're up to par with this awesome guide.

Additionally, for the logic section, I'd recommend rtm's Logic Blog.

New: Theck & Thack Layer Guide

And may I ask why you added 2/4 of the first 4 guides I suggested?

I've just added a few more into the first post. The list might needs recategorizing somehow, but I feel it now has enough to become the new official spotlight thread... so... it is.

I just didn't think they were important enough. Then again, I don't know what I; doing so eh.

It's a tough call choosing what should go in. I'd say:-

    1. Think in terms of what the community thinks is a good tutorial, not just stuff that you like. Hence my list of the most-thanked posts.
    2. Too many is probably better than not enough, except perhaps with two near-identical tutorials.
    3. When deciding between tutorials with similar content, pick the ones which are better presented (good formatting, have images, etc.), are maintained by active users, and more up-to-date.

I guess it's safe to add in any guide which covers anything which isn't covered by any other guide already in the list, unless they have absolutely appalling presentation, like a big wall of text with little or no paragraphs and bad spelling.
