Lifespan by Kaiju_kid
A journey from the womb to the tomb. Play everything inbetween.
Hey Everyone Kaiju_kid here
For my PSP debut, I have converted my most popular level on PS3, to the PSP in this special edition of Lifespan. Although the scenario is the same, the gameplay is altared and remixed. I decided to do this version to learn the softwares limitations before trying something new.
If you've never played Lifespan before, the premise is this:
The level starts literally with your birth, and ends with your death hence, Lifepsan. Of course all manner of things happen in between like getting married, joining the military, etc.
I would love ti hear feedback from old members and new. Here's some pics...

Hidy Ho kaiju! Well, I have just finished playing this level and I absolutely loved it. It is so great to have you creating on PSP! Just so everyone else on LBPC knows, kaiju is an old friend of mine from my PS3 days that is finally getting into PSP.
Anyway, back to the level...
I am so happy that you got a PSP just so that I can play this level! It is outstanding! I mean seriously, that is the most moving level I have ever played on either LBP, just plain excellent.
And not only that, you managed to implement a lot styles of gameplay, and you pulled them off great. From the platforming throughout the level (including in the crib), to the race, to the sniping in war, it was all just fantastic. And I was actually dreading the points when my parents died, which says a lot considering that this is just a LBP level.
Just plain incredible.
I think that my favorite part of the gamplay was the war section. That sort of thing has never been tried before on PSP (from what I have seen), and it was executed so well. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot more of it once this level (hopefully) becomes popular!
Out of all the amazing stuff, the only part that I had a rough time with was the section with the grim reaper at the end. Because the bush that you use to jump over hi scythe is so slick on the bottom, when you try to jump, it slides away, which causes you to fall into his blade. I managed to do it, but I was getting a bit worried. I am fine with the bit of a challenge, bit it just sucks that it comes at the very end of the level, so it will be the part that people remember when they are rating the level.
But don't let that make you think that I didn't enjoy this level! This level is remarkable, and oh-so unique! I am so glad to have you on the PSP, and I REALLY hope that I will see more from you in the future!
Thank you so much for this incredible levelLast edited by amazingflyingpoo; 05-09-2010 at 02:20 PM.

Just played this level. Very impressive. :O
You really did a great job capturing the different stages of life (ah yes, I remember my time as a baby, swinging and jumping my way to freedom...). I am gonna have to agree with AFP about the reaper at the end. Set the larger bush as static where it needs to be, and also lower the reaper or have him move closer. Seems like that part should be more about the symbolism than an actual challenge.
Great level though. Proof that LBP levels can have some great emotion.
and heart.

Welcome to the psp side of LBC kaiju!!

I have never ran from my psp to my computer as fast as I just did to leave feedback for a level. This was something special that you have created here, no doubt. The way the level starts on the inside with the little embryo, and the elevator ride up that looks like a hand, to the swing over the dirty diaper on the little mobile was priceless. Already this level was tugging at my heart. Great use of materials and stickers too. I only wish I could use stickers that good. The race through the school years was a perfect metaphor to the way school was for me. I was always in such a hurry to get out of school. I remember sitting in fifth grade thinking how much I couldn't wait for me to be all grown up and out of school, but looking back I think, what was my rush. That really hit home with me there, so great job. The war sequence was a lot of fun and tense too. I loved how you used the painting of the plane ride as a tool for your story telling, very subtle but so effective, and very LittlleBigPlanet. Getting called back home and fighting the Grim Reaper was very challenging my first playthrough, I finally figured out it was a lot easier than I thought.
Your dialogue was very genuine and very touching, saying how you can always see your parents in your eyes and face and through your children's eyes made me all teary, and as I write this I am beginning to do the same again. The sign over the scoreboard saying in memory of your mom was an awesome finishing touch to your masterpiece of a level. I actually played this level for my Mother today and she started crying. Today is Mother's Day, and I know your Mother would be proud of this.
Don't worry about F4F on this, you have got my back elsewhere on several occasions.
Nothing more to say, but five stars and a heart and one for creator too.

Thank you all for your extremely positive feedback of the level, I'm overwhelmed with joy! It seems the only issue you guys had are with the Reaper, so as I listen to feedback, as every creator should, I went in and took the obstacle nature away and just made the Reaper a symbolic notion that you can just dispatch easily now. However, that means I'm back to zero plays and hearts so I would greatly appreciate it if you guys would at some point go back and give it another play and reheart it if you did so the first time. Cheers

Alrighty, I just gave the new version a play through and I think that the fix was a very good move to make. I actually still found it challenging (I died twice at the reaper), but it was a good kind of challenging instead of a slightly irritating kind of challenging that the sliding bush was causing.
Awesome level

Hi, Kaiju_kid!
WOW! Great story with very good environments and good adventure part! You dialogues are brilliant and create accomplish story for level. I loved this level. It was fantastic! And you use materials and stickers very well, I was really impressed in the beginning, when saw the beginning of new life and small baby later. I haven't any big problems during gameplay and all that I received was just fan and interesting story! Thank you for that! Very cool!
I gave you 5 stars ad heart for this level and creator's heart too and will look for you next levels!

I really loved this level. It was really great and I'm glad you brought it to the psp (never played the ps3 version.) I really liked the story and thought that it was a great idea. I had a small gripe though, I felt that the transitions weren't always the greatest between different times. Aside from that it was a perfect level. I loved the scenery itself and had a blast. solid

Thank you for the kind words comrade, I'm glad the story translate well to other countries. I think the story of family is universal yes?

Thanks man. Yeah, it's tricky to do transitions without gasing the player, which I hate. I was never a big fan of that method, so I just went with a simple approach. Glad you liked it as a whole though. If you ever have the opportunity, try the ps3 version which is waaaay more dynamic with atmospheric lighting and a sadder ending. The transitions are way better as well. Thanks a million for youe feedbacke

This is the most moving LBP PSP level I've played so far. An everyday tale that keeps you interested from the beginning till the obvious but beautiful end. Congratulations.
I will try the PS3 version for sure!Sack Raider I: The Frozen Kingdom of Skadi
Sack Raider II: The Harp of Seasons
Sack Raider III: The Garden of Golden Apples
Sack Raider IV: The Shipwreck of Captain Skull

Just played it, pretty good! Sad ending :'(
Also, there's one spot in the helicopter, all the way on the left, that doesn't make the helicopter rise D= But still, good level

Thanks Lleonard and thunderstruck for the positive feedback.
Llleonard, I hope you pm me with your impressions of the PS3 version/ Thunderstruck, yeah I'm aware of that tiny area. I left it intentionally because thats the side you enter the copter from, and it would start lifting off everytime you got near it leaving you on the ground. Plus, it kinda makes that simple area a little more challenging. Also of note, I entered this in the Ultimate platformer challenge at Lil big workshop. Not expecting to win per say, but there was only a handful of entries so I said why not.
