I had a mini-panic attack when my friend told me there was actually an LBP2 so I went here, and I got scared because I wondered about what will happen to LittleBigPlanet: The Original because I wouldn't want it to become obsolete. It's not an iphone!

Nobody really cares if you’re miserable, so you might as well be happy.

I've seen a few people suggesting this and I'm wondering where this information has come from? Is this speculation or has there been some indication of this officially?
Personally, I can see no sensible reason why this would be the case. The LBP1 levels will contain a subset of the features of LBP2. The data will be encoded the same, or at least in a manner that is understandable to the new game, so why would LBP2 not be able to edit them? I'm sure if you edit them in LBP2 then you will never be able to play them in LBP1 again, but I can't see why they wouldn't be editable. [this is speculation, btw]-- ? --

Yup, LBP2 is 100% backwards compatible. It can load LBP1 material. So why should there be a difference between loading LBP1 material in play mode or loading the same material in create mode? It hasn't even occurred to me that LBP1 levels would be uneditable in LBP2.

They might even patch LBP1 to support some of the new features in play mode, but you'd have to get LBP2 to add them in create mode.
In a way, LBP1 does become obsolete, as create mode in LBP2 will be superior, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

LBP won't become obsolete because LBP2 will have all the features, just an expansion pack type add on.

What's exciting is that the stuff we will have to create in LBP2 will be incredibly amazing.
Just imagine all the LBP stuff + all LBP2 stuff.
New levels will get diverse even more. I can't even begin to image all the styles and cool art styles we will see pop out.Currently studying level design!
My best LBP1 levels: (from oldest to newest)
- Ultra Beginners and Girlfriends
- Crazy Train! (hard/normal)(better in LBP1)
- Sack's On The Beach
- A Bark In the Dark (hard and normal)
- Space Sack's Adventures: The Blue Planet (LBP1 only)
- Death Swamp (hard)(LBP1 only)

It makes sense that we'd be able to, but I want to be 100% sure, before I start building levels I want to finish in 2, but suddenly find out I can't...please tell us for sure, Mm! Nothing I read specifically mentions editing lbp1 levels yet!
