Thought I'd make an entry for LBW5. Don't really make survival challenges so I thought it would be something different. I had a go at making a zombie survival challenge, maybe it's nothing new but I haven't played many others. You must shoot the heads of oncoming zombies, they get more common as time goes on. There is 2 new types of zombies that have a chance of appearing later on but chances of seeing them are slim as it gets quite crazy with just the normal zombies. It's a pretty dark level so pics don't look too clear but I grabbed two, one of the play area, one of the scoreboard area. Anyhow if you like this genre please give it a go and let me know what you thing, suggestions are welcome. But as I'm sure your all aware emitters + complex stuffs = thermo death and I have hmm 18 of them so thermo is very close to max.
Feedback much appreciated

1) Your environment is really well made. I don't know how I feel about your trees in front of the scene, but I suppose they make the scene more interesting.
2) Like everyone else, I'm in love with how the zombies move. I'd like to see how that was done. But why are their heads so blocky, with a big hole in the front? Maybe I should have paid better attention and I might have understood.
3) I'm personally not a fan of shooting in three layers. Most of the difficulty stems simply from switching to the correct layer. I like the fact that the player dies in all three planes though. There must be some way to make it more apparent what layer to switch to, maybe by making the camera more top-down, maybe by putting dotted line stickers on the ground between layers?
4) Your ending area is pretty nice, but I don't understand what it is that we're standing on... It just seems like a random stone cube. Can you make it look like something real, like a house, hospital, morgue?
You have an impressive level here so far. It's not perfect but I think anyone who likes zombie levels should play this one at least once. I gave it four stars.
F4F my zombie level: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/sho...mbie-Takeover!
Oh between you and me, my level was overheated too, so I fixed the problem by making the zombies not technically creatures anymore. I took the brain off of them and replaced the feet with rolling wheels. It worked in my level, and the zombies just mindlessly roll towards the center of the map rather than following the player, which is all I really needed them to do.

Hi-
First off, I love how the survival challenge sort of begins as soon as you start instead of something like 'press the red button to continue'. You are great with the 3D layer glitch, and the level's visuals are absolutely stunning! The looks bring you right into the inner fun of the level right at the start. Shooting the zombies was cool too, and I thought it was funny how they walked in their own zombie-like way. This is, by far, one of the most addictive survival challenges that I've ever played. I played enough to where I saw the two special zombies. I finished in 1st with 7,742 points!
I rated it

Woah dude, better than I imagined. Looks like you didn't need my suggestions after all :P
Anyways, your level;
The Good stuff :
- Amazing zombie designs, I love their hobbling gait! I see what you mean about wanting animated legs now, it really does add something. Are you using pistons to move them? It's definatly something special there.
- I love how, and it might be incidental or it might have been by choice, that when you shoot the zombies that because they are so light, they recoil a little bit from the impact. It's not much, but its satisfying.
- Super good use of 3d layer glitch, there are some real masters of it around and about this forum aren't there?
Stuff to think about :
- The camera makes it very difficult to see which layers the zombies are attacking on. For me, at least, it made it more trial and error than being good at aiming. If you maybe were to tweak the camera to be a little more 'top down' then that might alleviate the problem a little.
- The 3d layer trees in front of the action felt a little intrusive, that might have just been me but they seemed to obscure a lot of the action.
- The grass in the background seems a little too vibrantly green. It seems to stick out a bit (for me at least), maybe try a patterned grass material or darkening it with stickers to see the difference and to see if you notice it.
Pretty sick stuff though,

My F4F is my Seeking the Meaning levels in my sig (don't worry, the prologue is only like 30 seconds long :P )Last edited by Asbestos101; 05-28-2010 at 02:00 AM.

It was pretty fun and unique, as with any survival level I didn't make it that far, it was fun though, I can see what Asbestos is saying about the layers. I'd just kinda switch back and forth layers till I was hitting something, not much to criticize, I enjoyed it. All in all, pretty good. I wish you success with your level, best of luck.

Thank you guys for the feedback. Darn frogboy you are like stalker of leader boards! I checked the leader boards for a few mins after you first commented and I was like no way he played I don't see him there. Good to see you got to no1 lol now just to nudge you off that spot..
Asbestos I get the grass comment, I never thought about darkening it for some odd reason, I will be sure to take a look at that to make it match more. As for the camera view, I totally understand that it can be slightly tricky to tell but perspective is the indicator. There is subtle differences between each layer that way but maybe that's not enough. I have the view at that angle to show off the background but I'll still see what I can do. The trees in the foreground are a style choice I felt it added more dimension and depth so I want to keep it there. I could try messing with the thickness of them to make the view a bit more open. As for the way the zombies are setup there is pistons and legs and all sorts lol. Not as clean when they bump into each other but for the most part it work for what I want.
Cheers again guys
I will be sure to check out any F4F levels you request, I'll do yours Asbestos now in a min!

I played it and thought it was really fun. Liked the visuals

One minor con is the foreground sometimes getting in the way of the midground, but other than that, 5 stars and heart
No F4F needed [if this is one lol]Do you like music? Hear my music.

Ok I tweaked it a bit, made the trees thinner, they are thick so from far to the side they are still chunky but a little less so, the middle of the screen they are most notably thinner so it should make it a bit more open there anyhow. Grass I darkened and it matches more. Also tweaked cam slightly. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I guess I'll have to give this a go, though I have a horrible feeling that it'll be better than my LBW entry. :P Looks fun though, and design is awesome from that one photo!

This level was great! The environment was creepy- great use of the 3D glitch! The zombies could have been better stickered, but that doesn't matter much.
