Thread: Roller INC

    Default Roller INC

Hey friends. I know, it seems like I just made a level, but I've got another one for you all. This follows in the tradition of releasing levels that are nothing like my previous work, so I hope you enjoy it. Please note that this level is very hard, and I understand that some people will not appreciate that. If you don't like hard levels, give this one a pass. If that is your thing... take on Roland von Rollerbottom in this challenging, yet rewarding, platforming level.

Regarding the level itself, the main mechanic was inspired by CaptainCowboyHat's most recent level, OH NO!!! The Princess!! World 7: Pipe Maze. What that means is you should expect to see quite a few rolling barrels. They are fun to watch, but quite deadly. Keep an eye out for secrets, which are scattered all throughout the level. Special thanks goes out to Luke (Mamett-Box), for making one of the roller sections (you can find a little cutout of him somewhere in the level). There's not much else to say, but... Enjoy!

Some pictures to whet appetites (note that these were before the final decoration):

    <---- Roland von Rollerbottom

Thanks for the warning. I'll give it a miss then.

EeeeeeeEeeEeEeEeEeEeWwwwWwWwWw!!! Another comphermc level? It's smelly! But if you burn it, it'll smell worse, so I guess i'll play it.

I only just played the beta today, like an hour ago so I don't suppose it's changed much from then, so I'll talk bout it now
To be honest, in terms of suggestions, bugs and the like - I failed to see any except for a few visible sound objects and switches - but this may have been edited out since I last played! Or they're supposed to be there - either way. I liked all of the obstacles, although they could be frustrating at times, but it was all good fun, and I enjoyed the fact that before you embarked on an attempt to complete an obstacle, you had to sit down and look at the pattern, before drawing yourself a path through. You had to be quite precise with your movements, as the obstacles were ever changing, and I loved this. The boss started off quite simple, but to be honest, after recognising the pattern of the boss, it was actually easier than many bits of the actual level!

The storyline seemed a bit confusing, because it felt like you kind of just jumped right into the end of a slightly longer story - so maybe a prequel might be needed, in order for it to make more sense? I know it wasn't intended to be an in depth story, but even still. And the pendulums were quite tricky - but then again, it was meant to be a tricky level so that's alright!

All in all, a great puzzler, and was very fun to play. I just hope the general community goes easy on it, because it is that little bit harder than some levels we're used to.

Cheers. That was a nice summary and exactly what I was going for.

Yeah, I think the challenge will be when the player refuses to recognize the patterns. Oh well... they made it that far... I'm sure they can handle it.

Yeah, nice and simple with the story I think fits for me. If you read the description, it will make a bit more sense. Thanks for the little mini-review. I'm glad there is a place for levels of difficulty... as they are more fun for me to play. It was nice dabbling with that whole concept.

Very interesting. I like the varied and original challenges, though most weren't that hard to figure out. Things started getting dicey for me around the conveyor belt/electric death part, but I was definitely just dying there because I was getting careless by that point, so it's definitely a fair challenge. The boss was pretty simple, and I think I would have liked to have seen some more variety during that fight (like have both barrels come down at the same time every few steps, instead of just keeping the same left-right pattern all the time).

Great visuals and polish, I didn't run across any bugs on my playthrough. Putting bonuses in dangerous-to-reach areas is pretty devious too, nice touch.

    Woohoo! Gonna play

Looks really good. A bit generic (yet detailed) in visuals, assuming that by the pictures, but I'm sure the level will make up for anything with its gameplay :]

  17. Thanks!

Nail on the head if I've ever seen it, but I did go through and all lots of details. It still looks grungy and whatnot, but much less "plain."

First things first: THIS LEVEL WAS AWESOME!

You know, the feeling you get when you're playing a hard level?
This feeling where you just want to give up and rage quit.
Well, be surprised that Roller Inc. isn't one of them

    Pros:
-Its just so beautiful and well structured that you want to see what's next, even if it's the 20th time you die. You still want to continue!
-Diggin' those wires (the boss was awesome)
-I played it with Morgana, so you'll be impressed that we hunted EVERY single bubble there was. I was lucky we didn't restart the level to get some (Don't ever change Morg )
-I liked your little promotional images in the level that I put some in my pod

    Cons:
    Where is mah wat0rZ ???6?

A really good level similar to CaptainCowboyHat that definitely stands out.
    and a lovely

Gosh Comphermc, you published it after I got off my PS3.

Well whatever. I only have to wait a few hours

Argh! Now the rest of the world can play it (and fail like me).

    Nice job man.

PS: Roller Inc. is a naff name, whatever happened to THE FACTORY OF DOOOOM? You'd've got a hell of a lot more plays with that methinks.
