Deck by monstahr
A journey of flasses, flannel, and irony.
It's published. I've been working on this for about a week or so, maybe more, I don't know. Ran out of ideas and my thread in ideas and projects yielded no fruit. I'm hoping I can get some feedback despite being boned on ideas. Kinda stuck for inspiration so it's cut short, perhaps to be continued.
It's made with one player in mind but there's no problem having multiple players.
It's light on visuals but that's how I wanted it. Cardboard rullllesss
yay, already at 3 stars from someone who didn't finish, I wish people would leave a comment to tell me where it breaks. assuming it did.
hooray, up to 4 stars.

There are less stickers by the end because I ran out of deck ones, really. But it is largely... pink. Wow. I really am fabulous.
In related news I was at a grad party today and we decided to sit on the deck and then I was like ohhhhhhhhhhhh

Thanks so much! I'll play your level as soon as I'm awake enough to give proper feedback, i was up way too late last night and i have no idea why i'm not still in bed!
edit: done. more feedback please! last i checked i had only 7 plays, play it while it's still worth some indie cred!Last edited by monstahr; 06-13-2010 at 06:49 PM.

I played it and thought it was okay. What does deck even mean? haha.
I guess i'll get straight to the criticism:
-It was annoying how some of the checkpoints were too high to activate by walking by.
-There was nothing really unique about the level. It was entirely composed of basic obstacles.
-It was easy to accidentally fall out of the level behind the thin layer walls in the beginning.
-You can fall behind the cannon at the end and be forced to pop yourself.
What I liked was the humor, the visuals at some parts, and the wierd vibe the level had.
I gave it

or

, I cant remember.

It reminds me of the early LBP levels in the ad campaign, all chunky and colourful. A couple of suggestions monstahr, pull out the camera on the balloon section to give the player a little more time to react to the oncoming spikes, and put in a checkpoint between the fire and the cannon just to help with the flow. I had some of the issues Nuffles had, like falling down behind the scenery, so maybe make the layering a bit more solid.
btw. Had you thought of using the little sound effect speakers and scaling them up and making them visible? might be cool in this level...?Last edited by julesyjules; 06-17-2010 at 03:28 PM.

deck is basically a nonsense word. sources tell me that it is totally hip. not fin at all.
thanks so much for the suggestions! scaled-up speakers sounds fantastic actually, i can't believe i didn't think of that. the colors of them are perfect. i'll check it out whenever i can next access my ps3.

I love beginning, but the part in the Chug Lite HQ is bit boring, I liked the colorful stickers and stuff before the place, but the building is drab.
AND SO Warlord ONCE AGAIN VANISHES INTO THE COSMOS...

I love it! The dialogue is witty (I've had my fair share of encounters with hipsters, I know how they can be, lol) and the visuals are very unique, well done with the stickering! I gave it

and a
for being hilarious, weird, and an all-around different experience. Hope to see more soon!

haha i kinda ran out of colorful ideas... if you have any to offer to spruce up ChugHQ, hit me with them.
thanks, spork! i'm glad you can share my feelings for hipster culture. i'm thinking of adding a single-speed bicycle section (because you know, gears are so mainstream)

Hiya-
I had a blast playing your level monstahr! I loved all of the stickering and the character that appeared throughout the level looked really cool and he said a bunch of funny things. The only criticism that I have is maybe to change the camera angle to where you see farther below yourself in the area in which you have to grab the balloons and guide your self through the spikes, I died a whole lot in that area due to me not knowing where I was going. Other than that, this was a fantastic level. Good job man!
I rated the level

I recognized that when building and hought Ifixed it, perhaps I just grew used to playing through it myself so I didn't realize it was still an issue. Thanks a ton! Anything you'd like me to give feedback on?
