    [spoiler]
    (SHAREWARE) WinRAR - http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
    Very powerful file archiver program.
    7-zip - http://www.7-zip.org/
    Freeware file archiver
    FileMenu Tools - http://www.lopesoft.com/en/fmtools/info.html
Creates a right-click menu option that has a huge array of options that (IMHO) Windows should provide for you.

    [MAC]StuffIt Expander - http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...texpander.html
StuffIt Expander can expand over 30 formats including StuffIt, RAR, 7zip, split and segmented archives.
    Zipeg - http://www.zipeg.com/
For extracting ZIP files and such. No faffing around, simple and straightforward.
    InkScape - http://www.inkscape.org
    Very useful vector graphics editor.
    WhatPulse - http://whatpulse.org//
if you are a frequent PC user this might add something fun
    GDI++ - http://vladg.com/2009/03/make-window...ac-os-x-fonts/ (download at step 1)
It's for Windows and it renders fonts and words on screen to make them smoother and cleaner like a Mac's. It's really cool, especially if you like how Mac's fonts look.
    Ecofont - http://www.ecofont.com/en/products/g...ving-font.html
During printing Ecofont ‘shoots’ holes into the letters that you have typed! That is fascinating in itself, and all the more so when you realise that this has no effect on legibility. But it only really becomes interesting when we tell you that it generally enables you to save up to 25% of ink or toner. Both your wallet and the environment will be grateful to you.
    F.lux - http://www.stereopsis.com/flux/
f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.
Tell f.lux what kind of lighting you have, and where you live. Then forget about it. F.lux will do the rest, automatically.
    Hamachi - https://secure.logmein.com/products/.../download.aspx
Can be used to chat, but is mainly used to connect to other people, and making games think you're on a LAN network
    Game Maker - http://wiki.yoyogames.com/index.php/...Maker_Versions
make you own games easily free (version 8.0 the latest version is free but the whole version costs dosh)

Not too sure I quite get what is going on, but add msn? And possibly AIM and yahoo while you're at it. Think that qualifies. D:

I've used AVG Free for years, which offers Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware protection. I've never had any problems while using it!

    Updated.

@Rhys125: yes it's good, althought not advised if you play games on your PC frequently, it LOVES to interfere with them. (though I doubt many people here play PC games as frequently as me :P)

I rarely play games on the PC, I only have AoE 3! That explains why AVG is so good for me.

Hey, Fab idea. I hope this thread stays on top. I'd say it's worthy of a sticky, but incase it doesen't get one, I've made sure to bookmark it!

    here's one for music:
This is the site for Jeskola Buzz. It's my favorite free synth/compose package. It is open-source so there are tons of user-created synths and effects. works well with VST plug-ins too.

    http://www.buzzmachines.com/

P.S. I like the title just fine...to the point, and clear. I suppose you could shorten it to just "Usefull Freeware"

reason that I haven't posted anything for macs yet is because I don't own one sorry.

but yeah you can, what I'll do is put [MAC] infront of it.

also, post updated with swanbrowns thing and 2 freeware games.
