Default Color up your life

COLOR UP YOUR LIFE by o___Neo___o
The evil scientist "Dr. Crazyus" is about to steel all the colors from your planet. It's up on you to bring back all these colors by using your paintinator in totally new way. You have the power to change the color of the surfaces in this level. So: Color Up Your Life and enjoy your play.

Welcome to „Color Up Your Life“

Ending-Scene-Preview

Very big thx to Gilgamesh for uploading a video of the level-walkthrough :

The Story:
The evil scientist “Dr. Crazyus” is about to steel all the colors from your planet by using his terrible “color-suckinator-machine”. It’s a pitty that you’re to late to stop him from finishing his plan but it should be possible for you to steel one of the evil machine’s portable paintguns and by using it, you’re maybe able to reverse the damage that Dr. Crazyus has done. When you’re back on your planet you encounter a wasteland of colorlessness - the evil machine has sucked out all the colors and everything is just black and white now. It’s your misson to bring back color, joy and fun to your world and at least to your life. Because a life without color is a boring thing  So what are you waiting for? Grab your paintinator and show this evil Dr. Crazyus, that he has made his plan without your lion-hearted boldness to save your planet from a nightmare. It’s up on YOU

Some personal notes:
I used a very unique method to change the color of the surfaces and I think it’s a pretty cool and very unexpected effect. I’ve never ever played a level where the creator has used this effect in the way I did. Well, with 2 million levels out there I can’t be sure, but it would be great to be the first one who came up with that. I hope you like and love it the way I do.
There is not as much plattforming than I had in mind before starting this project, but the thermo-intensive intro-sequence and the story-introduction took away 60% of the thermo. At the end I’m running out of space to build a larger plattformer but maybe this will be possible in a second part…..! So all in all, this level should be handled and rated more like some sort of concept level instead of a true plattformer :-)

Please enjoy your journey through “Color Up Your Life”! Thanks in advance!

I want to thank Tobsn08, Mnniska, TheCooper, BasketSnake, Lightmare, Sabre, Omega-Slayer, QuiecheFriendzy and all the others for betatesting and feedback. Special thanks to BasketSnake for his help with logic and Lightmare for his info about the (never heard before) 160hour bug.

PS: Due to the 160hour-bug there are some little issues: in one scene you still here a thunder-sound after something is destroyed, but there is NO speaker that could create this sound it sounds a bit odd in that scene but there is no way to change it – and I tried -without doubt- everything possible. There is also little issue that affects a piston rarely. It could be possible that a message-box will close after only a few seconds.

The Goods:
+ Very, very unique effect of letting the player bring color back without the use of any lighting effects.
+ for the platforming that was there, it was very polished.
+ Level and character design was superb.
+ Not giving up when you got the 160 bug and fighting through to bring this level to us
+ Nice boss.

Improvements:
- The boss was a little easier than I expected. Maybe, if possible, make him move left and right for more of a challenge.
- Dont use so much thermo on the intro next time

Love this level though. It makes me think of new ways to use what we have to make something new. You earned these 5 stars and a ! Now for part 2

5. Thanks!

Thx for the first feedbacks - I'm glad you like it that much :-)

The boss turned out to be very easy due to the thermo as well - as I come to that point in the creation process I have to admit that I didn't wanted it to be a "real" boss-fight (or at least "A" boss fight) because I had only 5 or 8% thermo left... but I tried to make it a bit funnier and so it ended up the way it looks :-) I should edit my first thread and rename it from "boss" to "final scene" LOL :-)

Thx for the 5star rating so far ... I apreciate :-)

7. Thanks!

No problem. You earned those 5 stars and heart. You went through the same thing I went through on my level so I know how frustrating it was. Glad you were able to move it to a fresh level patch.

9. Thanks!

As everyone else has stated, a nice use of the paintinator and a nicely put together level - the boss was pretty easy but understand why. and

Great work mate!
I really like the level.
It's very simple but fresh and with new ideas!
In its way it's another level that pushes LBP boundaries further.
Great work!

13. Thanks!

Awesome level. I really like the lighthearted comic style.
Solid visuals with the paintmachine, the rotating paintgun dispensers and the strange creatures popping up.

Your innovative mechanic where you paint colour back on the world is great. I for one would be very interested to know how you create this effect. Maybe do a tutorial and call it the Neo/effect...
Gameplay is simple, but still very entertaining. Bubbleplacement is very good, adding an extra level of complexity for those willing to hunt.

Suggestion
On some parts near the paintmachine in the beginning, you can switch layers and disappear in the background. Maybe close of that layer.

All in all this is a fantastic level, with an genuinely innovative gimmick. 5 stars and hearted. I´d like to see a part 2!

If you´re up for F4F, it would be great if you could take a look at one of my latest levels, 5, 6B or 7b.

17. Thanks!

Yeah :-) it's is very very easy, and I have changed the description "boss" into "ending-scene" alreday hehe... there was not enough thermo left to make a boss more complex and I really apologize for it. So I tried to make something with a bit of fun in it :-)

Thanks Tobs!!!! That's what I hoped before publishing it - maybe there is another level with such a concept - but I highly doubt it at this moment (and I at least highly hope that it is LOL). To be the first one with that style is a nice thinking :-)

Thx for the detailed feedback! You're right: the bubbleplacement gives you a "big" chance to get some good mulitpyers due to the fact that you can "move" some bubbles with your paintinator to some other bubbles :-) I get a score about 13.000 and there is more to get.

And yeah: the simple gameplay is the most dissapointing thing to me because in the first process I wanted it to be a level that will focus on plattforming. With the thermo problems which I described this wasn't possible anymore so I decide to make it a bit more on the fun side. There are tons of ideas for plattforming in my brain so a second part is possible! The layer-prob that you mentioned is something I am aware of, maybe I can fix this... I will try

The "Neo-Effect" - wow pickled-punk - I never saw it that way :-) I feel honoured by that - I apreciate! The color-back effect is very simple to be true - everyone who wants to know how it work can send me a pm and I will share it with you....

Thank you all for these great feedbacks and suggestions. Hope there will be more who will give it a chance!

19. Thanks!

That was a very cool level. The reverse colour effect is intriguing and you used it to great effect. On top of that, though, the level just oozed charm, with gorgeous, vivid colours and fun shapes. I especially liked the dog shaped “blocks”. The character work was excellent too. Dr Crazyus looked just like a mad colour-guzzling scientist should and the weird and wonderful creatures who popped up along the way were fun too. Cool set piece pictures at the start too – the colours trapped in cages picture was really well done.

A little more platforming would have been nice but I totally understand why it was not possible. Anyway, as you said in an earlier post, there’s enough to keep you entertained trying to get bubble combos along the way and the amusing dialogue helps too.

Well done on creating something so original. I look forward to seeing more of this effect.

Nevermind pickled-punk - at least it's a big honour to see that people love my work and create with this effect too.

Well, "The Neo-Effect" .... that sounds..... SWEEEEEEEEEEET :-)

Yeeahaw :-)
