OK Space Invasion by celsus
This is my newest level, simple aliens invade and you have to save the earth. Not the longest level I have ever done, but the detail ate up a large amount of space. Attached some pics. Could use feed back on the level, but if you like the level, would rather have some feed back on OK Space Accident, OK Choice, or OK Space Mach 2. I have no space left for new levels so now I am faced deleting old ones.
Thanks
(Intro poster pic, not actually in game, just to get player hooked)
(You wake up to sounds? But why?)
(Nooo! It is those pesky aliens that always are killing humans)
(No better time to get on a building's roof than an alien invasion)
(No Cows!)
(Ummm... I think I may have under-slept this morning... [that is a time travel joke incase you are not smart, not saying you are not smart, just saying if you didn't laugh the fault is not with my joke])
(Homage to the scarey door, every dinosaur movie, and Godzilla)
(The ship's captian is not the best looking)

Updated, and betterer.
Well it may have been just perfect before, but I touched it up even more over the last few days, things like the oil tower design, the landscape BCE, and the building stairs. It is a fun and rewarding level (things go boom)...and if you like it, there are keys to the other levels I really would like someone to test out and give me feedback on. This one I like enough not to worry, everyone has given it 5 stars and defeated it. The level is not dumbed down for ratings, for those who think the level is too short (of which so far there are none but me) there is even a super secret ending...ok well not really much, but there is a short little extra for fun thrown in...more just because I like maxing out levels and options.
(observation window fly-over at end)

(altered stairs in building made for smoother play)

(stole space on thermo by deleting hidden edges and touched up BCE landscape)

Oil Tower
Oil tower altered for reasons that you only need know if you take the time to play the level. Now hopefully I am done with editing this level for good.

Ok, well the level just jumped from 5 stars to 4 after its 19th play...sad to say that was still a record for me (my levels usually make it to 6 plays, then it jumps to three). There is a chance when I did the last update on the Tower it caused the T-Rex to to alter incorrectly, but I am not too sure about that because I don't think I published the newer work I did on this level last night.
Oh well the point is I just published it with an intro...of sorts, and a few more touch-ups. So I hope you guys feel like seeing what an alien invasion is like in a world where people don't really fare the best...Last edited by celsus; 08-28-2010 at 11:44 AM.

I've been meaning to give this one a go, Celsus. I'll try and get to it later, if I can pry the controller out of my son's hands.
edit: OK, here we go!
OK, if my Invasion level is a bad movie, this is a much better one. Some great effects here, some that must have been very time consuming and mentally taxing, and some that I have no idea how you did. Great stuff! The vortex is mindblowing... just wish the jumps were easier to see. Made it on my last life.
The death scenes are a lot of fun!
Dialogue isn't as strong in this one as in OK Murder Mystery, but still fun.
I agree. It's been awhile since SyFy put much on the air that was watchable. LOL
This is another great level from Celsus! Great special effects and creature design. Not really a whole lot to do in the level, but it's a fun tour of destruction. I do wish you'd use a bit more dramatic lighting in places, to set off the nice detail work you put into your characters and scenery, and compared to the rest of the level, the townsacks look a little plain. Nothing I'm going to fault you for, though. This was a fun level that obviously got a lot of time and love from its creator.

and a
. I'm trying to be little stingier with those the more great levels I play, so there you go. You really earned those.
SPOILER:
LOL, How'd that cowboy know that time vortexes tame dinosaurs?? LOLLast edited by SpeedyMcKnuckles; 08-29-2010 at 03:21 AM. Reason: gave you 5 when I played the level, but only 4 here. don't know how that happened. :P

Lol, my level is a red headed step child of yours. I loved the B&W oldie aliens theme of your level, and when I was playing it I kind of wondered what you would think of my less story driven, to heck with it, smash them all approach. I almost wanted the houses to explode too, but I really loved the idea of houses floating untouched with the world destroyed around them...but I may get board sometime soon and try and free up more space and just see how they look nuked. Did you find the second ending?
When you say dynamic lighting, do you mean some aimed in certain areas, or just more colors? I added lighting blasts when the beams take out the land, but I wasn't sure if that was what you were talking about, also got the first fade-in to work now. I touched up a few more locations, and added new details and a few new lines. Did the intro work at all?
As far as Syfy, they had it coming...I think they will be the baddies in one of my levels, perhaps the next murder mystery an exec will show up.

Yeah, the intro worked. I dug it a lot.
LOL @ red headed step child! You've got me far outgunned as far as special effects and the actual construction of things that are nice to look at go. I always try to make up for my lack of talent in charm.
As far as dynamic lighting goes... I honestly don't know in your levels. Your item construction always looks great to me, from characters to sets, to vehicles, but your color pallet always has a certain pop to it that is wonderful but strangely out of place. I'm curious what would happen if you lowered the global a bit, and hit the level with some giant spots or something, tilted at dynamic angles. I'm really not sure if it would look right or not, but like I said, something in the visuals always seems to throw the mood off just a tad. When that happens to me, I play with the lighting.
Now... second ending? I led the t-rex up to the mothership and busted the aliens' brains, then the hatch closed and I died and I was inside the ship. Didn't know there were two!
btw... Do you think a secret hatch or a bit of dissolve under the player when that hatch closes might be a nicer way to get them inside than killing them? Just an idea. I'm afraid I'm going to have to kill my players in Sack Men From Space 2, to get them from one key scene to another, and I'm not looking forward to it... Just seems like since the exit's right under them in this level... Just sayin'.
The smash them up, to heck with it approach worked really well. Wwhen the dino first took off with me on it's back, and the poor cowboy...LOL! Very "to heck with it"! I yelped a little for the poor old cowpoke. Then I ROFL'd.Try out Invasion of the Sack Men From Space!

Actually a dissolve would work. There is a side elevator that the player can use, but the speech buble takes longer to read than the lid closing. I toyed with the idea of it closing slower, but the first time I got squished I had this bad side that wanted to leave it so right as you close the text bubble you realize... but then again if it smashed you before you saw it, I should still slow it a little just so the player can see it when it is too late to escape. I will try the darkness upped a bit and I just realized how I could solve my houses not blown up issue...
The second ending...if there was one, may rely on T-Rex hint at the end...then again I could just be making it up...

Added a few last options..
Touched up and added more effects. I think that is pretty much takes care of most of the feedback. There are a few bonus things to do after the end.
(Earth Away Beam...one of the extras after then end...but what to do with it?)

I know I keep saying it, but I think this was the last update...
Added some posters and decals. Altered how the entire UFO took off and flew along with Atomizer ray for the bonus end. Ran into a strange glitch which would never occur during play through or test in create mode, but appeared in normal mode. Tried work arounds and replaced several items. Seems to be 100% functional now...well 99%
Found one more weird glitch with the T-Rex...it may have been a lag issue, but replaced several items with fresh ones just incase. More imporantly touched up the interior of the last UFO for more ease when moving. Play tested it several times in a row and could find no issues. Again if you like this level please try my OK Choice level. If you wanted me to play test your level and I had not already just send me a message. Also if you do have issues with this level feed back is always good, the harsher the better...just leave my mother out of it.

Ok I just played your level for F4F. There was a lot going on in this level, it was a little hectic at the beginning, with the alien chasing you. It was a little confusing to know where to go at times, but I eventually found my way through. The vortex idea was clever, I liked the emitting trick that kind of encompassed the whole environment so that it seemed you were changing worlds. But I would suggest maybe a change of lighting while in the vortex, and also some more sound effects to really create a change in atmosphere. There were good characters in the level, such as the aliens and the dinosaur, but I didn't like the design of the innocent bystanders. They were a little bland and unusual-looking. But overall the style was good, if a little cluttered, and I loved the concept and some of your gameplay ideas. I give it

Teh vortex has a yellow lighting when you go through it, and the areas on either side have a light alteration. I could add some spotlighting to add more or a fluctating lighting. I will see what I can do there. I wanted to go with a hecktic run for your life feel, but I may have over done it. The aliens actually only chase you a certain distance each to avoid them being too strong....perhaps I can have him chase his pet dog as an added direction. I will see what I can do with the people, the corners on the skeletons take up tons on the thermo, and the unique deaths some have also take up a little. I think I could add clothing and such without taking too much space up. I have no more devices I can add or corners, but I can steal a few corners from the hidden ground...I don't think people really notice the earth's core compared to the other details. Thanks for the feedback I will get to work on it tomorrow.
Which ending did you get on the level?
Edit: Actually I need to do the lighting for the vortex...I just realized it blocks out the background (as it is supposed to) but that means during the tansistion the whole lighting I have set is almost invisible, I never would have noticed it because I was too caught up in the items rotation and timing...again thanks for the feedback.

Hey man,
I played your level and i found it very cool. I love the story and the style.
+Nice visuals (I love the vortex)
+A healthy amount of humor.
+Fun gameplay.
+2 Awesome endings =)
I didn't found any cons, except maybe for the characters looking a little... weird =)
So Yeah i found the second ending and i thought it was better than the normal ending.

Thanks for the feedback. Well I think I hit most all of your concernes this time. I am not too sure about the lighting I added to the vortex, gobal wise I could not affect too much so added some lights above. The cracters have been altered for the most part to add more than just a few styles. The dog was added for more of a direction hint...but it is a bit crowed now. Oh and a new sign was added for the end is near...and a little more of a bonus was added for getting one of the alt endings. Thanks for all the feedback thus far. If I still owe you any feedbacks I spaced on slap me with a pm and I will get to it.

(New look of people and dog to the right)

(New sign being held)
